I am trying to obtain my grandmothers birth certificate but cannot verify the information. My grandmothers name according to her marriage certificate was Annie Ellen Thomas 29 spinster of 29 williams street Threthomas, in county of Monmouthshire South wales. Married to William Phillips 37 Batchelor of same address (miner).
Annies fathers name wasThomas Thomas (Miner) and William Henry Phillips (Sea Pilot) williams father.
The family state that Annies mothers name was Ellen Mary but dont know surname. My grandmothers death certificate show date of birth as 23.12.1897 but I cannot locate a census that I can confirm this family. Both thomas and Ellen Mary from what I can gather were born in North wales but came to south wales in late 1800 and died there. Can you help at all. Please note annie ellen remarried and at time of death her surname was Edmunds.

Anne Ellen ThomasHer lifetime , South Wales, UK
Anne Ellen Thomas married William Phillips on the 9th May 1921. They had 12 children. She told me at one point that there were 21 children in all but many of them died at birth. William Phillips was an immigrant from St George, Barbados, West Indies.
It was a very difficult period in 1921 and not one that would have been easy, for Anne who was from North Wales and married into a coloured family.
I recall her saying that the shop keepers would refuse to serve her because she was married to a coloured man. However, Anne remained married to William until his death in 1961.
Anne did remarry and her second marriage was to Harry Edmunds. Apparently Anne knew Harry in her youth but never went any further than friends until they reunited several years after William had deceased.

Harry died first and Anne followed several years later. She died of cancer which was a very painful death.

Ruth says she was born in 1897 (December) and married at age 29, so 1926?

My grandfathers marriage cert said he was 29 he was actually 32

Also Ruths tree says she was born in 1895?

I have just been looking at the information and note that two of the children have the name of roach which I assume must be a surname. Would you assume that was the mothers single name or that the mother had been married before and these two children were by that marriage?
I found it strange that thomas was an insurance agent? when the family tell me he was a miner and annie ellens marriage certificate states miner. If you are sure this is correct I will go with that information but it appears that the family have totally put me on the wrong track. However, I suppose this happens you have to work out the fact from the fiction.
