Sorry Derek,

1929 ?? Whoops.......think I left my brain somewhere today. Good job one of us is eagle eyed.

Knew I could count on you to work things out.....although I don't live a million miles from Derbyshire didn't even consider that they could have wed over the border. Gets me everytime, you'd have thought I would have learnt by now. Now whats that saying about teaching an old dog new tricks !!

Anyhow.......anything you can find out would be stupendous

Susan

Hello Kay..thank you for your PM, to which i have replied. If you have any difficulty getting back onto my Thread, please let me know.
For the moment...I have had a quick look at the Spondon Pr's 1653-1910.and have found the following.......(not knowing at this stage whether you are looking for Clarkes or Greatorexes, or indeed the Greatorexes are from Spondon.........however;-

There are 29 CLARKE Baptisms ..scattered thinly between 1702-1910 (in case of misspellings there are 23 CLARK baptisms 1799-1899

There are 8 GREATOREX Baptisms in the 1820's..ish...most of them fathered by WILLIAM a Coachman (and Anne!)

Marriages:-........
16 CLARKES...8 Clarks..and 3 GREATOREX.......

Burials 17 CLARKE..between 1706-1881.....8 CLARK..end of 18th century....and 4 GREATOREX......

I have loads of resources from which to find your GREATOREX connections..wherever they might be!!

Look forward to hearing from you.

Derek.

Hi Derek, I have ancestors born in Horsley - the Parkers. My 3xgt.grandad Benjamin was born in 1794, and married a Sarah. I don,t suppose you can find her maiden name, can you? They married in 1824 in Horsley. I would be grateful of any information you have. Thanks.

Hello Sally, nice to hear from you again.......

According to the 1911 Census there were NINE children born to Philip and his wife..of which SEVEN survived to 1911.....The only one you're missing is MARTHA b 1901..and it appears that Gladys was 1907 and Frank was 1909.
Ivy was born 1911, but after the Census..so they had 10 children in all.....the two who died are not mentioned and that usually means they died either at birth or in infancy.

So we have PHILIP NATHANIEL PURDY baptised 04.07.1869 at Cotmanhay Derbys ..son of William and Martha.

HOWEVER......the 1901 and 1911 censuses have Philips wife as EMMA..not Emily..........and at Basford District 1892 there were two marriages on the same day....Philip..and another man...and EMILY HALE and EMMA ROSE.

So..taken in conjunction with a tree on Ancestry belonging to one ALAN PURDY.it looks as if Philip married EMMA not EMILY.

The only way to prove that is by the Marriage certificate, and i have written to Alan to ask him for his Source......

Apart from that, the story is easy enough to track.

Let me know what you think

Hi Derek,

Hope you don't mind but just to help you and Sally I had a look on my disc for the marriage of Philip Purdy and he married Emily Hale at St Leodegarius Church Basford on 18 April 1892.

The other marriage that you mentioned was Emma Rose to George Spencer same church on 16 April 1892.

I'm hoping to go into the Library in Nottingham soon so would you like me to get a copy of the marriage.

All the best
Wendy

Hi Derek
A Happy New Year from sunny South Africa.
You offered to look up some records of my Great-Aunt Ethel May Pomeroy's time at the "St Christopher's Railway Servant's Orphanage" .

I can save you the trouble of visiting the Records Office. FindMyPast have just released Records from the Orphanage. Ethel was admitted on 2 Sep 1897 (age 6) and Discharged in Aug 1902 (age 11). These dates correspond to those which you suggested.

Thank you so much for your kind offer of assistance.

Best Wishes
Martin
