Hi Lorraine, Robert Forrester Mcewen married Mary Sibley Adams on 14 Oct 1874 in Detroit Wayne Michigan.I know about the family that they had. I am looking for information on Marys family. I believe her father was Charles Adams and her mother was Mary Sibley. I am wanting marriage information and a date/location of a marriage for two sisters.
The first might be easier.
Ellen Ann Mellor born 12 Mar 1857 in Fulstone Huddersfield
died in Kansas 11 Feb 1945. Married a Joseph Seal c/ 1895 possibly in Kansas.
The second -I have been searching for years.
Emma Mellor born 7th Nov 1855 in Fulstone Huddersfield . Last on an 1871 census in England then disappears off the radar.Believe she went to the USA.Was told that her married name was Duff and that there was a (presumably) daughter called Eva Duff. (This person however had three daughters and lived in Canada. The only reference to the location is in a written letter which states that they lived 500 miles north of Seattle in Washington in the 1980's).I know this is all vague but I have nothing else to go on.-Any info appreciated- Regards Janet

Hi Lorraine, Yes they came back to England and had 3 children, Katherine Sibley 1875, Alexandrine 1876 and Kenneth Ogilvie 1878.Robert was born in Glasgow Scotland 1836 and I think Mary 1852 in Michigan.The girls emigrated to Detroit in 1895 and became well known artists. Have found them on 1900 and 1910 census living with great aunt Sarah Alexandrine Sibley.It is information on Marys parents i cannot find (census and marriage)Charles Adams and Mary Sibley. I have printed your reply off and I am going to sit and study. I feel overwhelmed at this information. Whilst I had the census information only on Ellen I am still at a loss who the William Mellor aged 7 on the 1920 census could be. I have tried to find out.. My personal quest is to find what happened to my grandmother Mellors's family and I have 14 to account for. You have now helped me with number thirteen Emma Mellor. The only one I have to find is an elusive Joseph Mellor born July 1864 Fulstone Huddersfield, a stone mason. Rumour has it he was last seen leaving San Francisco for New Zealand. The last census he was in England was 1901 but because there are strong links with America he could have visited or lived there.
I'm not sure how you have managed to get this information as I have tried in the past . I am so grateful. With best wishes Janet .

this is the second reply now I have studied the information you have sent. The details on Eva McCann now make everything fall into place. Her husband would be my mothers cousin. I have a letter written by the daughter of Ellen Mellor who talks about Eva as though my mum would know her but I had never heard of her. Any information on the Duffs will be more than welcomed.
