Hello Diane and welcome back.

I honestly can't remember but someone else may. Any takers on this? :-)

Diane

Diane Report 10 Aug 2015 18:01

Oh and I did think of the possibility of Diane's father being a Sudebar Major, I believe it was an honorary title for British servicemen when working with Indian soldiers

I've looked at the Delhi Durbar ages ago - nothing found, as nothing has ever been found for an officer of that name in Seaforth Highlanders

is it possible that

04 Jan 1906

is a misreading/mistranscription of Jun?

I'm not sure whether Viv is seeing an original doc or a transcription

Cynthia - the rumors were wrong - you are still on GR

Why are you not on THE thread anymore - i am left wondering around on my own :-(

Does this mean Diane has told the truth about her Age for once - but not her name

There's a Will for a Sir Norman Cranstoun Macleod, knight, who died in Surrey in 1945, aged 78. Probate granted to Margaret Macleod, spinster. This might be the Margaret mentioned above, bapt Feb 1906

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 4 Nov 2015 11:57

Thanks Ann....I will pass that info onto Viv. :-D

Tabitha.....I never left. Have been here since 2003 but spend much more time elsewhere......wink wink. Still do my messaging each day on here though. :-D

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 4 Nov 2015 12:28

When the old bat finally emerged she posted the original of the date and yes, it does look like JUN. So Evelyn was right.

wisechild Report 4 Nov 2015 13:37

Silly thought, but if her birthday was very close to Christmas, maybe she celebrated in in June so that she didnĀ“t miss out on celebrations.
Clutching at straws here.

Aha. Glad I asked! Never trust a transcription. :-)

'my' Emerentiana Leslie's birthday was two days off ...

23 March EDIT -

the baptism image is available at findmypast and gives Emerentiana Monica Leslie's baptism date as 2 June 1906 'said to be born' 23 May 1906
John Francis Leslie's occupation as Dist Cass fund [?] Supervisor

Birth date transcribed wrong it's June.

At both sides against Diane's name in red pen see page 6 Book ???. After book on the left side the section area is covered by a mark and unreadable and on the right the page is cut off straight after book.

This is the other entry transcription

FIRST NAME(S) LAST NAME(S) DOB OCCUPATION
Diane L Roy 04 Jun 1906 Udd
Sorry, this record is officially closed. Check if you can open a closed record.

2 other closed records on original copy. Both entries for 5 Dorset Place. Both say married and unpaid domestic duties. No idea why there was a the notation and a new entry for Diane but others on that page appear to be reentries, all woman married with children and no husbands named. Same reference number in both entries.

Herbert didn't die until the 1970s and I can't find a new address on the 1939 Register for him as he has only 1 entry. Wonder if it's to do with the children as Diane's entries are identical.

Nothing is simple with Diane but 4th June 1906 seems to be her birth.

I now have free access to 1939 Register if anything else is wanted for here. :-)

Cynthia Report 17 Feb 2016 16:40

Hello Pat and thank you.

It seems as though Herbert joined the Army so maybe that is why there is no other address for him. Also, perhaps the women and children were evacuees? Good of you to offer your help - very grateful. :-)
