Christine

I heard from Susan Batcheldor (Genforum) who sadly doesn't know anything about James Breeze Walter Smith however she did confirm that James Breeze (the partner) marrried Mary Ann Smith. Together they ran an hotel in Chatham.

Not a great deal of help.

I am getting to a point when it seems impossible to discover these two missing "marriages"

What do you think? Where do I go from here?

Hi BoroGirl,

Sadly James Breeze Walter Smith died in the first quarter of 1900 (Medway 2a: 512:)

Thanks for looking but don't get too frizzled (like me ga! ga!)

I think you have several choices now

1. wait. you never know who has the next piece of the jigsaw. A Purkiss descendant may suddenly pop up with a document they found in their loft.

2. Go to the local records office We are only looking at transcribed copies and a transcriber does not have the advantage of knowing what it should say.

3. Hire a professional to do it for you. I know one in the Malling area if you wish.

Peter there is someone with An Elizabeth Stead on their tree. Have you contacted Rowena?

I have just found James Breeze on a tree already open to me.
My only problem is that there are 67872 names on that tree. I would have to query if this tree has been researched or copied by ged com.

Christine,

Regarding the very large tree.........have you tried to open just immediate family and then searching at that point? Sometimes it works.

Regarding Rowena, Yes I have written to her but can't find her reply, so have sent a new enquiry this evening.

I hope that she responds unlike a lady called Sandra to whom I wrote last October who told me she thought that her Elizabeth came from Ireland and that she married a man called Smith??!! Coincidence?

anyway, despite many enquiries (including our Elizabeth's mother Lavinia - which was a hot match with her) I have not heard from her at all.

She might be the answer - if only she wrote..

Just thinking about your three suggestions of last evening, I think that I should spend some time in the Medway towns looking up parish records. I have a number of descendants to seek out in the Hollingbourne Kent area too.

Yes Scott seems to be the father of James Breeze. I had found that but did not think you were ready to follow that line yet. found him in several places.

I did not mean I could not find him in the large tree, I meant I was suspicius of the research after a bad experience.

' morning Christine,

Thanks for your research posted yesterday.

I think that with the 'finding' of James Breeze's perents, that is just about a far as I want to go down that line.

Basically I try to keep to a "main descendants line" as far as possible otherwise I mighjt end up with 10,000+ people in my tree which probably do not mean too much to me anyway. I like to see a reasonably straight tree.

I guess I am back to doing legwork regarding the two marriages. Who knows, Sandra or someone may have the key.

A thought, if Elizabeth was married to two military men (James worked in the Chatham Dockyard and Albert James was in the RN as a Chief Yeoman Signaller, and they 'married in the services' would their marriages only be registered in the RN registers?

I see that Findmypast makes a big thing of marriages overseas and in the military. If that is so, I wonder where I could find those registers? Just a thought!

There are vast archives at Chatham Dockyard and Greenwich maritime museum and they can be contacted on line.
I cannot figure out how to get the info I want out of find my past military stuff. sorry.
