Hi there..

Thank you everyone, l'm not ill really just achy and tired, getting old...lol

Tec..had email back this afternoon, she said ..I'll pass it onto Cofnod, the Local Records Centre for North Wales.

Have you seen them today? and can you take a photo?

We're having pretty much the usual birds, more jackdaws the past few days. l can't make out if we have a female greenfinch or not, its got almost white legs, could be a chaffinch, will look for it tomorrow.

Well I have had sparrows feeding on the coconut suet thing.I haven't had sparrows here since I don't know when.
Looking out of my bedroom window this morning I saw Coots and Moorhens next door.Yesterday I saw the woodpecker again after a long time.
Magpies seem to making an appearance again ,looking quite intimidating .
The last few nights I have been woken up by the hooting of owls. They are very close to the house.
Lovely Snow drops in bloom here too.

Jude, Thank you for passing on the info re the Ringed Plovers.

I didn't go to the beach today, it was one of those dull, wet, cold days with a heavy sea mist hanging over the beach. Ianto didn't fancy it, and to be honest neither did I

I'll take a look tomorrow and take the camera with me in case there are any around. Wil keep you informed.

We have had a tail less hen blackbird resident around our garden for a year now. Before Christmas she grew one white tail feather, but it didn't last long before she lost it. Now I notice she has a little tuft of several white tail feathers appearing, and I'm wondering how long she will keep these.

Do you think they grow and fall out or does she pull them out Tec? Very strange!

Tecwyn Report 25 Jan 2011 21:43

Ann,
I don't really know what happened to the single white feather she grew earlier. The feather grew to what would be full size, but looked rather coarse. She really did look very odd hopping about like that. I am waiting to see what happens to her "new" tail. Maybe being freak feathers they fall out, as her proper tail must have done originally, maybe she pulls them out, or possibly other birds attack them. Curious, but interesting.

Thanks Von. From the rSPB alert e mail.

It's Big Garden Birdwatch time! The world's biggest birdwatching event takes place this weekend, 29-30 January. So, fill your birdfeeders, grab a pen and paper, and settle into your comfy chair with a biscuit or two. Need we say anything more...?

If the rest of this week is anything to go by it will be 7 green finches, a couple of goldfinches, a wood pigeon a blackbird (maybe), a few starlings (again maybe) and a sparrow or two.

LindainBerkshire1736004 Report 27 Jan 2011 17:38

Hi All
The sunflower seeds are still disappearing, by the flashes I'm guessing it is mainly the greenfinches.
Food put on the patio this morning was devoured by three very large wood pigeons.
I have seen the blackbirds turning over the soil under the feeders, must be looking for an easy way to get the sunflowers.

Pretty cold and still overcast here today

No problem with me either Jude about pics being seen.
Magpies seemed to have arrived again, causing mayhem.

No Ringed Plovers on the beach over last two days, just a few oyster catchers have returned. A few terns of some sort, and two cormerants on their way somewhere.
I did see two buzzards, and two red kite this morning, the first red kites for some time - the buzzards being mobbed by seagulls.
Lots of sparrows, chaffinches, tits, starlings, doves, a pheasant, robin, and a black cap is visiting the peanuts in the front garden.

Thanks Jane:o)

Tec...aww thats a shame. If you should see anything else (or them again) unusual here is the web site in your area, you could also ask if the Ringed Plovers have been seen there before. The girl from SWales said she's only ever seen 1 or 2, she said she's an ametuer birder:o))

ANYONE else mind my giving the www.sewbrec.org.uk my blog address/link, it will mean they see your photo's!!
