Seems strange to me that a person without a TV licence gets the same or worse punishment than someone else who uses threatening behaviour in an attempt to rob someone!

minimum 1 year sentence just for being found carrying a weapon

drink driving - licence gone for good

criminal to pay compensation to victim even if it takes a lifetime

castration for paedophiles just for starters

stricter controls on drugs getting into prison - if I were running a prison I'd make damn sure no drugs were available

drug pushers - minimum 10 years

refresher courses for judges and a maximum age of 60

I would be one of the first to say the government and judicial system is becoming more and more of an ass. It makes you wonder where we are all heading in the not so distant future.

I studied law for a few years, many of those parts I studied were or seemed to be ok.

Police try their hardest to enforce things, CPS can try to bring a case to court, then the system lets everyone down with leniency.

I blame it on the fact that nowdays everyone wants the power so go at war with each other, sure they do, Judicial against Government both out of touch with the real world happening around us. They always did have their protected lives.

I completely agree with you Ann. I think the laws worldwide are far too lenient towards the perpetrator of the crime and with no regard whatsoever to the victims. So many times I have read of criminals being given early release to immediately reoffend once they are out. It is not good enough. I have seen a lot of it in Oz and here in NZ. If someone is sentenced for however many years for their crime then they should serve the full term given, there should be no early release for prisoners under any circumstances.

I always find it amazing how many murderers suddenly "find God" when on the inside - strange!

They shouldn't have time to find anything while in prison. They should be made to do all the jobs that need doing - some chain gangs cleaning up the river banks and the canals. Cleaning up motorway central reservatons, cleaning graffiti off public buildings and the like - but oh no - first mention of a chain gang and those bloody do gooders and PC brigade will be out in droves pleading for this scum in society

if your in jail u do hard time u get rubbish meals,
water outside kept to the minimum
none of these snooker tables and play stations
and defo no tv in your cell

its like butlins now their is no deterant

it would be fine Arch if you could get the vandals who did the graffiti to clean it up but unless you can get them, then prisoners can do it. And as stray says, no flaming leisure equipment, they should all be too flaming tired for sports of any kind or keep fit equipment, working on a chain gang should keep them all fit - they'll thank us in the end!
