Yes Stray,that happens with us too.

Roll on the summer when we can enjoy a cigarette outside in the warm and not worry about "breaking any laws"!

~~~~~~~waves ~~~~~~ to everyone... I agree with the majority.. there should be a decent smoking area as well as a non-smoking area... the needs of everyone would then be met.
But I would like to be served my dinner when I go out to play, and I is fat fat fat!!! So I hope they don't stop serving food to fat people, lol
Love
As an ex smoker, I have mixed views on this subject. I stopped before the ban started in Scotland nearly two years ago. I can understand people wishing to have a smoke with their drink, so agree that there should be smoking facilities available, where smoking staff can work.
The amount of pubs that have been forced to close due to the ban, should alone show the government that a change is needed.
Should definitely have non-smoking pubs and smoking pubs - probably end up all of them having a smoking area though lol.
This law is definitely ridiculous. Our local bus station, which only has shelter provided by an overhanging roof, has 'no smoking' signs everywhere. So there I am, stood at the bus stop waiting for a bus,unable to smoke, breathing in all the much more dangerous fumes blasted out by buses with their engines constantly running in case they stall!!!
My (smoking) friend lives in a Housing Association flat. Outside the flats, and in the foyer are 'No smoking on these premises' signs. Talk about taking away someone's right!! does my friend obey? No. He pays his rent, closes his door and they can coco!
As a non-smoker it's great to go home from a night out not smelling of other people's smoke. BUT I do think that pubs and clubs should provide somewhere warm and under cover for people who want to smoke.
I work in a sheltered housing scheme and our residents can obviously smoke in their own flats, but not communal areas, not even the garden. If they want to smoke outside their flats they have to go beyond the grounds. The staff are not allowed to smoke at all, unless they go out of the grounds, and then they are not allowed out in their uniforms. I think that if they employ smokers, then they should provide somewhere they can smoke.
Bl**dy stupid law!
Yes, those pubs which wish to become smoke free should, however those who wish to having smoking rooms should be allowed to.
NB This law does not apply to the House of Commons! They are exempt as the building is still classified as a palace.
A bunch of MPs defied the ban and they were not subject to fines. The smokers have now capitulated but they do have lovely designated areas for puffing in.
Lucky them, they don't stand out in the rain and wind but then they are not the plebs are they?
MP's can stand on the terrace outside the Members Dining Rooms to smoke - OK it's not like standing in the street, but it is outside (they do have heaters) - I know cos I have been there.
And yes..............I agreed wholeheartedly with the original question - we smokers should have a room designated to us - with no non-smokers allowed in, ergo no bitching.
Thanks
Scotland has wanted the law repealed for nearly 2 years!!! : - (((
Our climate is too cold and wet to stand outside. This will only increase the number of people getting coughs, colds, flu and brochitis!
I really think it IS disgusting to see people smoking in the street, outside the front doors of posh restaurants and hotels. But if they want our custom so they should provide proper facilities.
Also, there are many pubs closing down because so many people want to smoke with their pints and the pubs can't afford to provide proper facilities.
I have spoken to large number of non-smokers who agree with me. It is only those who have stopped smoking who want the No Smoking Law.
The latest I heard was that people who smoke at home were told not to smoking TWO hours before any Council Worker visited, i.e. Home Help, Social Worker, etc, under the threat that these services would cease if they did not stop smoking!
A few months ago I was listening to a radio disscusion(spelling) on this subject, I couldn't believe what I was hearing, nonsmokers were complaining they couldn't sit outside with a drink because the smoke was wafting across them and one women said she lived by a pub and she couldn't open her windows at night, as all the smokers were outside and she could smell it. So I think it's a case of smokers will never get any peace whatever they come up with.
It really is a ridiculous situation. In the past (before the smoking ban) we could smoke outside in a pub garden area. Now, since the ban, people are complaining because the smoke is wafting into their gardens - what is the difference?
I think this is discrimination and would not be tolerated in any other minority(?) community!
I think all smokers should have rotton veg pelted off them!
NOT REALLY!!!
I don't smoke but I don't have a problem with those who do, as long as I have the option not to have to be in a smoky room. I think allowing pubs to have a seperate smoking room is a good one.
I blame Walter Raleigh for this lot and Queen Elizabeth the 1st - she let it in the country in the first place.
