I can see your point Colin and Debbie however I still feel *some* premises ought to be able to cater for one or the other or even both. Some pubs have two floors, the upper floor, with good fans/extractors they would be ideal.
And what of the *private* landlord where is his choice in the matter.

I accept to a certain degree its not going to change - but I just dont go or spend my money there anymore. I appreciate non smokers that didnt go to pubs before because of the smokers may well go now ....but I do wonder if the pubs are up or down on this .... I recon personally their takings must be well down on those of us that vote with our feet.

Sorry guys, I'm with Debbie, I can go out now without being ill for the whole of the following week.

Perhaps Mondays,Wednesdays and Fridays can be for non-smokers and Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays can be for smokers... not sure what to do with Sunday though LOL

I've got to admit i don't really go out much but since the ban and when i have been out i have noticed it has been a bit empty in places and it wouldnt do any harm to let people have a smokers room as long as its far away enough to not bother non smokers.

smoking is discusting...

Have to agree with the majority of comments on here and think there should be smoking pubs and non smoking pubs.
I will just add that when I have been out there seem to be more people congregating in the smoking areas than inside - what does that tell you?

could I make a point here - I am a smoker and do not smoke around people who are non-smokers - however, have a friend who is a club entertainer and can tell you that the business of entertainment in clubs is dying - fast. He's a great singer and comedian and does the Welsh circuit [lives in Swansea] - always drew full houses - the other week he did a gig and there were 28 people in ther audience, so it's affecting the club takings as well as his livelihood - I don't know the answer. Also, remember that the vast majority of the cost of a packet of cigarettes is tax for the government - I used to work for Gallahers and at the time, back in the 60's only 6p went to the manufacturer, the rest was for the government and I presume the ratio is still the same. If cigarettes smoking stops completely that tax will have to come from somewhere.
Now alcohol, which I find more worrying, is promoted everywhere you look, yet there are dreadful problems with underage drinking and binge drinking. Alcohol producers sponsor a lot of TV programmes and sport - definitely double standards here
