Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 10 Nov 2007 13:23

Following my thread of Thanks, I thought I would tell you about this way of helping the RNIB, especially as we will all soon be receiving Christmas cards and lots of stamps.

Why not collect stamps at home or within your workplace for RNIB!

We can raise money from both British and overseas stamps. We can raise more money from overseas stamps. We also collect first day covers, presentation packs and albums.

Stamps are sorted by volunteers and then sold to dealers or collectors. They are mostly sold by weight, if we can identify any valuable stamps they can be sold for a higher price. As a general guideline RNIB can expect to receive 90p or £1 for a pound weight of stamps.

Do encourage your friends and family, at home and abroad, to save their stamps for RNIB. If you would like posters to promote the RNIB stamp recycling scheme, please contact [email protected]

Instructions
Please leave approximately 1cm of envelope bordering each stamp. The rest of the envelope can be discarded (which will make it cheaper to send).
Please separate the stamps into:
1) British
2) Overseas
The value of a stamp does not matter, so 1p stamps can be grouped together with £1 stamps.
Collected stamps should be sent to:
RNIB Stamp Recycling
PO Box 185
BENFLEET
SS7 9BH

If you read through the thread, you will find info on other items that can raise money for charity.

Glad you don't throw your stamps away, Bunny, I just want everyone to try and recycle theirs, doesn't matter for which charity as long as they do some good, and are one less thing to be in a landfill site or incinerator.

Will start doing so now!

Glad you posted this as I have been saving mine since last Christmas.

Last year I sent them on to another GR member but can't remember who!

Can we keep this nudged please so we can all start doing something with our stamps? If anyone else knows of other such items that can be recycled for Charity, please add and I will amend the title when appropriate.

Liz,

After Christmas various stores (Boots, etc.) have boxes for old greetings cards.
Not sure how they are used, but at least you don't feel guilty having to throw them away.

Hi thanks for address - my father was registered blind for last 20 years of his life and for a while had the talking book service by post. I already have an envelope full of stamps so I would prefer to send them to RNIB. Jx

I think there are lots of charities that would like them, I know the rspb( birds one) do too.

Don't forget to leave a border round them as instructed in the first post (no pun intended lol)

I dont see how you will be able to give away the ones you are going to get from me, Liz. They are put out by our local council (or some local group) and they depict local scenes, e.g. the Hunua Falls near us, and a west coast beach and the bridge over the Waikato River at Tuakau. Hope you get lots for them.

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 11 Nov 2007 03:03

Hi Huia, no I would probably hang on to special ones, as I call them in case I met someone who collected stamps. I saved loads when my son was small thinking he might get interested as I and my brothers did, but it never happened so have lots stashed away somewhere lol

Will be nice to see those from your neck of the woods.
Night now, off to sleep snore free in a newly made bed, nice clean linen, mmmmmm super.
