Hi everyone, When I first got up , I thought we were in for another sunny day but at the moment there is a slight mist so the sun cant get through. Yesterday I tidied the garage a bit but there is still more to be done, my son in law is coming tomorrow to take some things to the tip. Kathleen, I think Genes have got back to normal now after all it was just maintenance not an update, supposedly. With the threads I want to go back to, I try and remember who put the thread on, then I can click on Topic Originator and find it that way, SOMETIMES, lol Elisabeth, I think we are in for a lot of spiders this year, I have quite a few already. Do spiders have baby booms? lol Sylvia, You were lucky to get your floor covering at the first shop you went to. What a nice man giving you free roses, he obviously had been impressed by your generousity all those years ago. When Gaynor was in her teens, I had 2 lounges one for Gaynor and the other for me,my house was referred to as the local youth club, by one of my friends. I replied to her, that at least I knew where my daughter was and who she was with. At this, she looked quite worried, so I said, 'stop worrying, your daughter is in there too' Fred, Your garden is coming on nicely, I hope we have a good summer for you and Liz to really enjoy it. Brenda, I hope you are feeling better now, apparently there is another virus going round that upsets your tum, I have had a mild version of it, affected my head , I wasn't actually sick just felt it. I think I will start some housework now, I'm not into housework but it has to be done. Take care everyone. June xx

Hi all, I didn't go to the market after all, and instead I went to the doctors. You see, my cold is returning, and I'd hardly lost the other one. I asked for a tonic or something. The doctor told me sun and vitamin C, and gave the name of a homeopathic mix, which I used to take and have in the house. Oh woe is me! Johan has started preparing the kitchen for laying the laminate on Monday so the flat is all topsy turvy, which I cannot bear, especially when I don't feel so good. Our weather is lovely and sunny, albeit still cold. The men are busy cleaning down all the balconies and galleries here so a lot of water and mess everywhere. Glad I never cleaned all my windows beforehand or they would all need doing again. My ex son in law popped in this morning for coffee, but didn't have much time as it was the same time as my hairdresser, so they clashed. A tish-oo, ah tish 00, till tomorrow, Sylvia xxx

Sylvia, I'm sorry your cold has returned. I hope you are soon feeling a little better. You dont sound your cheery self at all. Its awful being upside down at home, when you are not well. I think the sherry bottle sounds a good idea. Take care, June xx

Hi everyone Its a lovely day here, I hope summer has come but I doubt it. I was supposed to be hoovering, I have got as far as the dusting and now need a sit down. Its all Beckham's fault, I could hear him grumbling away at someone/something, which he does when he is trying to draw attention. Then all went quiet, I called, whistled but the little monkey wasn't having any. I was worried that there was a hole in the fence and that he had got out, so I decided to cut the bush down so that I could see what was going on. there he was the little tinker, I think there must be a cat the other side of the fence. Anyway I continued to cut it back while I was at it and now I feel in need of a sit down. Brenda, I hope you find the chairs and parasol you like. there are some lovely ones around I hope the rest of you are enjoying this lovely weather. I am off now to have a cuppa in the sunshine, Love June xx

Hi all, Well, beautiful weather again, although still that cold wind. I started off on the wrong foot this morning, and progressed the same all day. The bread machine knob wouldn't move to the 'dough' sign (I only mix the bread in the machine because I don't like the hole in the bottom of the bread). It was on 'rapid'. I kept trying and trying and the machine was heating up, so eventually switched off. Then later on again, but then it kept peeping because it was too hot. I eventually did it, and the bread is not too bad, not risen as much as usual though. I then decided to make up a can of fresh orange juice and overheated the machine until smoke came out. Here again I switched the machine off, and asked Johan later to switch it on again - coward I am! I managed to finish off the can of orange juice. I then wanted to make a batch of small cakes and didn't like to use the machine I'd just overheated, so with the aid of a hand mixer for beating the eggs I mixed up the mixture. Here again, the cakes are not as nice looking as usual. Johan has been all day poring over papers, something which he really dislikes doing. This afternoon I made a nice birthday card for Linda. It is in the form of a camera, and in different apertures I've stuck a picture of a kitten. Linda adores cats, so that's why! I've also made a get-well card for my brother in law who had a hip operation yesterday. I've been trying to 'phone my niece but cannot get hold of her. Johan and I are going to get down to looking at the possibility of holidays. I want to get to Spain as soon as possible before the maddening crowds get there and I want to go to the north of England later in the year. Anyone know of a caravan in Yorkshire, or the north of England which we could rent? See you all tomorrow. Love, Sylvia xxx

Just came on to do a bit of searching (I have some credits on 1837 to use up) and thought I would put a few lines on,June did not get as far as the garden centre,on my way out I started chatting to a neighbour who told me one of the local discount stores had some nice garden sets with and without parasols, and all pretty cheap. I went to look but the chairs were like deck chairs and I wanted wood or metel ,so I could leave them outside and the parasols were either too big for the table we have or the material was really cheap. I then went on the local market to buy clothes pegs for the washing line, and one of those little carousel things for socks and undies, the ones I had all seem to have perished ,they all crumbled when I tried to use them.!! Had to go to four stalls and a shop before I found any. Off to do that searching now,Take care. Brenda

Hi everyone, Its a lovely sunny start to the day here, though we were forecast rain so it may change before the day is out. Yesterday was like a summer's day, my son in law came and took a lot of rubbish to the tip, so now we can start filling the garage again. lol I must have another look at my laptop today, yesterday I wanted to play a CD on it, and I couldn't get the mouse to work, the touch pad wouldn't either because my grandson disconnected that when he fitted the mouse. Why on why dont people put things back as they find them? Sylvia, You have had one of those annoying days which we all get at times. I fell a bit like that with my 2 computers, neither is working perfectly as I like them. I have a webcam with each of them and they both need reinstalling, its all very frustrating. Yes I think you should get away for a holiday, a change certainly does you good. There is a site on the internet where caravans, cottages etc are advertised, my daughter went in a log cabin in Scotland last year, which she found on there, it was very good. Brenda, I hope you had more success finding your rellies than you did with the garden furniture. I fancy some metal ones, I left the wood ones out and they rotted. The trouble is there's nothing wrong with my garden furniture, I will have to see. George, Yes I think you are right, it looks like your Aunt wanted you to meet each other. I hope everyone is enjoying the lovely weather, Fred should have finished his garden now, I wonder whether we will get any photos? Love June xx

Hi all, Well the weather anyway looks bright. I slept so long so that when I woke up Johan had put a cup of tea by my bedside and laid the table for breakfast, even put the coffee machine on. He draws the line to scrambled eggs or anything like that, but ok he had remembered that it was Sunday and there are two of us who need a 'day of rest'. I daren't look at the printer at the moment. I spent so many hours trying to wipe off the fax message. It said 'could take a time to delete', so I just left it. The trouble here is that some of our things are in English and some in Dutch, and when I'm tired I don't know what one or the other means. May seem strange to you, but it is true. I often wonder what language I would speak when waking up after an operation. Had another e-mail from Di who tells me that her husband is now out of hospital. This will save her a lot of time travelling to and fro visiting him. Have a nice day everybody, Sylvia xxx

Hello Everyone, Dull and miserable again today but dry enougth to get some more washing out to dry,New pegs work very well!!! June, got a lot of definate ref numbers for certs and a lot more possibles, will cost a fortune to send for them all at once ,working out which will give me most info to get back further ,will then send for three or four at a time each month, can not do more really. We have two metal and two wooden chairs at the moment, the metal ones need a good brushing down with the wire brush and painting ,the wooden ones are so heavy I can hardly move them so I don't use them much, they were given to us,thats why I need new ones . Sylvia hope you sort out your pc problems soon,.I get really frustrated with myself when I can not sort things out Take care ,Brenda

Hi everyone, I dont know if its my imagination but this thread is coming up quicker now, lets hope this continues. Again its a lovely sunny day although we did have a shower during the night. I had another look at my laptop yesterday and the mouse is working now so it must just have frozen the day before. Today I want to clear some drawers out, I think I have got instructions/ manuals for things that I no longer have, so its time it was all sorted. Gaynor and her husband came down yesterday with the new tortoise hut that John had made, he put it on the ground, tortoise went over to it, poked her head in, after a few minutes she went inside, then a little while later, stood at the opening looking out. Later she settled down for the night, so I had to push some straw in, because its still chilly during the night. Anyway I guess, she is one satisfied customer. I can now get rid of the makeshift hut I made for her. Sylvia, What a kind thoughtful husband Johan is, its lovely to feel cared for isn't it? My grandson's girlfriend lived over here with us for 12 months, and she said, that on one visit back home, she had to make a conscious effort to think and speak Danish. Its surprising how quickly you adapt languages to your surroundings. So I would think you will probably wake up speaking Dutch. I'm pleased that Di's husband is now out of hospital, one thing it shows he is on the mend and another thing it must have been tiring for Di, driving backwards and forwards. Brenda, glad to here about the reference numbers, but yes it can get expensive, its best to send for the certificates a few at a time, because hopefully there will be new leads from them and you cant track them all at the same time. My wooden chairs were very heavy so I wasn't sorry when they rotted, these new metal ones dont have to be painted and they dont rust, my friend got some a couple of years ago so they have had 2 winters outside and they haven't rusted. The ones I have are plastic recliners, but there is no point getting new ones until we move house. We haven't heard from Kathleen for a day or two, I hope Susan is alright, I think she was having more chemo last Friday. I hope Kathleen is alright too. I'm sure Elisabeth will be busy running around looking after everyone and doing her garden. Jude will be busy with Madoc and Madcat and gardening. Ann,Glos must still be catching up from her holiday. well I had better go and make a start now, will see you all tomorrow. Love June xx Its that time of year, when we are all busy planting etc.

Morning all, Sorry I haven't been around, but we had son and fiance for the weekend and the time seemed to fly by. They seemed to be using the computer a lot of the time too, making wedding plans etc . Two continent weddings are not to be recommended. It will all come together I am sure, but we are still trying to plan a reception at this end for about a month after the wedding. The wedding reception itself is booked but they are still undecided what format the actual ceremony will take. We had a little rain overnight, which will help the garden. Some of my tulips just can't cope with the dry ground and are flopping over before they have opened properly. The garden is still looking very yellow with the last of the daffodils and the forsythia is magnificent. (I have trained some of the forsythia flat against the 6 ft walls and it looks wonderful.) I have had a letter today from a lady who knew my Mum 80 years ago. I have recently made contact with her, though we have never met. She was always talked of fondly by my Mum - enough that I was named after her! It is wonderful to hear this lady's recollections of when she was a little girl and my Mum looked after her and worked in her family's shop. She writes so beautifully and I always know it will be more reminiscences when the letter drops on the mat. These sort of contacts are really precious. Have a good day - back to pulling weeds. Hi all, Couldn't resist getting on to the computer again as the whole flat is topsy turvy. Yes, Johan and the neighbour have been laying the laminate in the kitchen. They began at 9.30 am and are still at it. I can hear the vacuum cleaner going now so must be nearly finished. I feel real proud of myself as I worked out two problems with the computer recently, just by trying everything and not giving up - almost 1.00 am one morning. For God's sake don't ask me how I did it though. The weather is dull and overcast today although there was a smattering of sun. Well, must go now as the 'boys' seem to have finished and are going to have a tipple. Sylvia xxx

Hi everyone, Its sunny again but we have a bitter cold wind, definitely not a day for gardening for me. Yesterday, I got rid of the old tortoise hut, then cleared some drawers out. I had old bills and instruction manuals belonging to things that had long gone to the tip. I have still some more to clear today. Elisabeth, you have my sympathy, a wedding is hard enough to organise at any time but so far apart must make it doubly so. Your forsythia sounds lovely, I've never thought of doing that. You are so lucky to have letters from your mother's friend, I used to love listening to my father talking about the past. I realise now that my mother didn't talk a lot about her family (she was an only one) and its that side of the family that I am having such a lot of trouble with now. Brenda, Still rushing around! I wouldn't worry too much about the garden furniture anyway, its nowhere near warm enough to sit out. It must be lovely to talk over old times with your father, that is one of the things I miss so much, even now all these years after his death (he died in 1976) he was my best friend. Ann,Glos, I think the couple of hours closing the site down for maintenance last week, has really paid off, its definitely quicker now, long may it last. It does get hectic with family, but we wouldn't be without them would we? Whereabouts is your next holiday? Sylvia, I bet your kitchen is looking very smart, these men do have their uses, lol. You sound as you are doing very well too, solving your own computer problems. I have a couple of problems at the moment but still haven't solved them, maybe its as well, otherwise I wouldn't have got the drawers cleared out. Brenda, I see you popped back on again, I hope you managed to sleep alright. well I must go and get some breakfast, before I take Sam to college. See you tomorrow, take care. Love June xx

Hi all, A lovely sunny day, but then I'm inside looking out. The wind looks cold. Johan is now busy fixing all the plinths in my kitchen, crawling over the floor, sawdust still everywhere, so what else could I do but get on the computer to moan to you all about it. No, not really moan but I hate being in such a mess, especially with Linda's birthday tomorrow and the 'lot' coming here. Actually they are only coming in the evening now as nobody could take time off during the day. So no cooking and Janet, my daughter is baking the cake. Johan is having to make the plinths fit now by planing some off them. Then is my turn to clean all the plinths - yes, I do have to do something. Annemie came in this morning for coffee and of course she wanted to see the new laminate, as it was her husband who helped Johan all day yesterday. She said my kitchen looks a lot brighter already. The painters are busy on the outside painting pieces on the gallery. Annemie says they work 1/2 hour then have coffee, then 1/2 hour again. We're paying for this! Have a nice day everybody. Love, Sylvia xxx
