Evening all, I've lost track of what I have been doing, but I seem to have been busy. We had some family to lunch yesterday and didn't do much else really. We had a ride out this afternoon to my husband's paternal side's ancestral village, not too far away. I have always had the details from most of the headstones, but also managed to take digital photos of them all, which gave many full birth and death dates. We also took photos of various plaques in the church, from events when various ancestors were church wardens. There are two names on a list from 'The Great War' and a memorial to one who died in Ypres. Some of them are from branches of the tree, but interesting non the less. (It wasn't the best afternoon to go round a graveyard in need of a grass cutting - in suede shoes! I ended up with very wet feet!) We took Mum-in-law along for the ride, and she was useful as she remembered where some of the graves were from funerals she had attended. You can't beat first hand knowledge. My husband is off for this week so my visits may be a little sparse - we will be out sometimes, but also he needs the computer too. Elisabeth x |

Hello everyone, I had just started to add a message when I got a phone call from my young friend - she is in the wars again!! Poor girl she is having a rough time of it lately. This afternoon she was in the garden, playing football with one of her sons, when she missed her footing on the uneven ground and fell very heavily on her back. It got so painful that she went to the hospital this evening and has damaged her coccyx, bruised her spine and ribs and impacted a couple of discs. What a tale of woe. What she really wanted to ask me was if she could take the painkillers the hospital had given her as she had taken paracetamol just before she went there. I'm sure that one day soon I will have a happier story to tell, just lately it does seem to be nothing but gloom!!! So sorry and thank you for being patient. I have been very naughty - I bought Easter Eggs for two of my step gt.grandchildren, I won't see them for a few days as they are away visiting their new baby cousin. The urge to eat some chocolate got too much for me and I confess..... I have eaten half of one of the eggs. Now I just hope the shops will still have some tomorrow so that I can replace it. Usually I get at least one egg bought for me but not this year. It has been a lovely sunny day here, not overly warm but nice and bright. Everyone seemed so much more cheerful because of the sunshine and the extra hour of daylight made it so much better. Had a nice lazy day, did some washing (dried nicely outside), pottered around in the garden a little bit and went out for a drive - only for an hour but it was very pleasant. No cooking, we had ham, salad and oven chips (how lazy is that!!) Only had to slice the ham and make the salad and dressing. Did anyone watch the Boat Race yesterday? Pleased Oxford won. The aftermath was that one of the many following boats hit Hammersmith Bridge which has had to be closed until Tuesday. The river looked particularly uninviting, Sunday was a very gloomy, overcast day but the winning team were in great spirits - I didn't envy their cox being thrown in the river to celebrate their win. Time I was off to my bed so goodnight all, sleep well. God bless love Kathleen |

Nice to see you back Kathleen, but not very good news. Hope everything turns out better when you next write here. Johan and I didn't go out after all yesterday as it was wet, misty and cold, and after all, we can go out any day really, why did it have to be Easter Monday! We've now planned to look at some new floor covering for our kitchen on Thursday. The weather is a little brighter today, but not as nice as I'd like it to be. I've now finished all my 'thank you' letters to people who sent either a card, money, flowers etc. for our wedding anniversary. They were all posted today, another chore done! I had a job to find this thread, it was so far back. Life on the Boards seem to be busy, let's hope it keeps friendly. Sylvia xxx |

Hi everyone, What a lovely sunny afternoon we have here. This morning I took Gaynor into Chorley for an appointment then called at the bank then went to Asda to have stock up with food. Brenda, I'm feeling tired all the time too, this morning very unusual for me, the road sweeper wakened me, I was muttering about the noise it was making at this unearthly hour and when I looked at the clock , it was 8.30. That must be the best night's sleep I have had for a long while. It was a toss up whether I added to the thread or lay down. Elisabeth, I think most people have opted for tracing ancestors and easy eating this Easter. Kathleen, Your poor friend, she is in the wars, its a good thing she has a friend in you to call on. I dont blame you for pinching the egg, I'm sure you will find one to replace it, I saw in Asda that they had lots left on the shelves also the petrol station was selling them cheaper than Asda. Sylvia, What a shame you haven't had good weather. we have been very lucky here, nice in the sun but still a chilly wind. Threads soon drop down a few pages dont they? This is definitely the popular Board at the moment. I am goint to take Beckham to the vet, he's fine during the day but at night his ear is bothering him, I think he has an infection in it. Unfortuneately we cant get in today but are going in the morning. So I will give him half a baby aspirin to calm it down. I will close now and try to get 40 winks, I can hardly keep my eyes open. Take care everyone. Love June xx |

Hi all, Couldn't find this thread, went all the way through to page 12 and then back to page 1 - hey ho, and I had missed it. Next time I'll just call it up. Are you sure you can calm Beckham down with only 1/2 an aspirin? With such a lively hound I thought you'd need more than that. Anyway, how he is now? Yesterday I was clearing up all the plant arrangements and flowers we had for our anniversary. I have still managed to save some bits and pieces, but thrown the rest out. The weather was a little better yesterday, a little sun, but oh so cold still. This morning no sign of sun yet. Johan has gone downstairs to his 'den', which is a place I never venture into. He saws, hammers, etc. as much as he likes, but I'm not clearing up. That is his responsibility. I don't see it either, hoorah! Linda will be coming soon, and now I'm busy every time she comes to do extra jobs in the house - Spring cleaning. I want her to wash down all the tiles in the bathroom today, clean the lamp etc. etc. and in the toilet the same. My friend Annemie has gone with another neighbour to the Red Cross today. The Red Cross have found out that a lot of old people have scootmobiles and daren't go out in them, so the Red Cross are going to teach them. I'm having a laugh at Annemie, as she has never been on a scootmobile yet. I have asked her husband if he will whitewash my ceiling in the kitchen and bits of wall. He works neatly and I would sooner pay him than a stranger. Johan has never liked painting or decorating, and now he is 80 even less! Now everybody have a nice day today. Oh I forgot to mention I had an e-mail from Di and her husband is in hospital with his heart. She is having to drive backwards and forwards to the hospital to visit him. Poor Di! Sylvia xxx |

Hi everyone I wakened to rain this morning and I thought good the garden needs this, but it wasn't raining hard enough and now the sun is out already. I took my granddaughter to work and then got home for about 35 minutes and had to take Gaynor to the doctors, now I have nearly 2 hours at home and then I have to take Gaynor out for an appointment. At least I cant say life is dull. All over Easter, I kept getting a sore throat and then it went, this morning I woke up with all the symtoms of a bad cold, I just felt like rolling over and forgetting everything. Anyway I have dosed myself up and will carry on regardless. Brenda, I had problems getting on to MSN last night, it kept telling me I wasn't liked to the internet, so I think it must have been a problem with the server. Sylvia, Beckham is a lot better thanks, I put some Frontline on him (which is to stop fleas etc making themselves at home in his hair) so whether it was simething like earmites, I dont know because last night he was fine and now there isn't any irritation in his ears.I phoned the vet and they said just to an eye on him and pop in if there was any more problems. I'm sorry to hear about Di's husband, I hope he recovers soon, it must be tiring for Di having to go backwards and forwards to the hospital. PLease give her my best wishes. I have just remembered I haven't looked at my emails yet so I had better go along and do that. Take care everyone. Love June xx |

Oh dear, I seem to be letting the side down! That is what comes of having a husband at home for the week! We haven't done anything exciting with our time, since the lovely trip to the churchyard on Monday, but the time seems to disappear. We both did the oldies visiting this afternoon, which took longer with more people talking. It was a miserable day so it was nice to be inside. I have just spent a while putting all the paperwork from my purchases, in looseleaf folders, for my two friends' birthdays. I do hope they are both pleased with 1000 year leases of a square foot of Sherwood Forest, and the sponsorship of a holly tree each! At least it will be something a little different for a change. It is so difficult to find interesting presents these days. (They are not allowed to erect a building or a tent on their site, but with just 1 sq ft each, that would be difficult!) I do hope the weather is better in the next few days so I can get out in the garden. It has been really cold and drizzly today. I have just realised I should have pruned the roses down a little more and I have just ordered some 'plug plants' of petunias, geraniums and pansies, but they have to go in Mum-in-law's greenhouse for a while yet. I don't have one, but she doesn't grow her tomatoes and cucumbers these days, so I get the use of it. Hope everyone has a good night. Elisabeth |

Hello everyone, Brenda I think a few people who are with NTL had a problem last night, the ones I know of also could not get on to MSN. Is it my imagination or are you working longer hours now than when you first started? Sylvia, isn't it sad when the special flowers die and you have to throw them away. Your flat must have looked like a florist's with all the bouquets and arrangements. What a blessing your granddaughter is, my most dreaded job is washing down the bathroom tiles (next to cleaning the oven, but now I get my son to do that). I also heard from Di, at least John is recovering but it seems that, as in this country, their government is closing down hospitals so that she has to drive a distance to visit him. June, you take care and dose yourself up. You really don't need another cold after your last experience. A pity we can't send you some of our rain, it was so heavy last night that the road outside was one big puddle. It started during the afternoon and just got heavier lasting all night. Has been a very damp and murky day here today but I believe is supposed to brighten over the next couple of days. Pleased Beckham's ears are no longer bothering him, poor things they can't tell us when they are uncomfortable or hurting. Elisabeth, it is nice to be able to spend time together and just relax. Pity the weather wasn't kinder though, of course Easter was early this year. I always expect the weather to improve around Easter, it being in March I suppose it was too much to expect a lot of sunshine. I would love to have a proper greenhouse, have one of those mini ones, not a lot of space but it does help a bit and I have some herbs in there at the moment. Fred - yoohoo!!! Of course you could let Liz join us if you are too busy. Hope you are both well. My young friend is still suffering from her fall, it will be a while before she is able to play football with her boys. She cannot manage to get in and out of the bath so uses the shower to get hot water on her back which helps. Susan has had a nice couple of days with her friends, tomorrow she has a blood count and Friday her second chemo session. Hope you all have a goodnight and sleep well. God bless Love Kathleen |

Hi everyone, It looks like we are in for another fine day. It isn't very warm though but that could be me feeling a little off colour. Up to now, I haven't got as much 'taxiing' around to do today.I have just to take my granddaughter to work this morning , then pick her up again at 8 tonight, they have a late night on a Thursday being a hairdressers. I think I may try and sort some boxes out in the garage, to make more room for Gaynor's boxes. Elisabeth, I think your friends will be very happy with your unusual gift, I have very fond memories of Sherwood Forest and think its a lovely way to preserve it. Kathleen, Thankyou Beckham seems fine now, thank goodness, he's playing with all his toys again. Anyone coming into the house would think I have a child living here with all the balls, cuddly toys etc. Everyday they get put back in his bed and then one by one he plays with them and leaves them out. I must try and train hin to put them back before he gets another toy out, lol Susan must have mixed feelings about the chemo, dreading them coming but relieved that its another session over. I'm glad she enjoyed herself with her friends. I had better go and get dressed now, ready to take my granddaughter to work. I hope everyone else is alright, Sylvia, Fred Jude, Ann and all Love June xx |

Looks like GR have decided to let threads run backwards. At the rate new messages appear we will fall off the board completely in a day or two. I hope this 'improvement' is not going to be permanent. Obviously, with this thread, we can type it in and hopefully find it but what about those threads when you know there is something you want to check but can't remember the title? It isn't just nudging but adding to the thread no longer brings it to the front page. Another dull and sunless day here, and quite cold as well but the forecast (if accurate) promises brighter weather by the weekend. Off to do some work now - have to brave the cold but at least it is dry and the exercise is good for me. Catch up later - if I can find the thread!!! Love Kathleen |

I am very confused now - from the my threads list it looked as if there had been no replies during the morning, but then I find you here Kathleen! (I nearly didn't bother to bring up the thread to see who was about.) I have been industriously cleaning this morning - makes a change. Two nice clean bathrooms and some hoovering and cobwebbing with my funny long wand thingy! I am sure every spider in the world must live around my ceilings - what a bad housekeeper I must be. Husband had headed south to fit a new kitchen sink at son's house this morning, together with a new stop-tap in the water pipe. He rang a while ago to say he had been able to turn off the water at the meter in the roadway! That was the one thing which could have posed a problem - not something that is done very often. (How often do people test their stop-taps? We do quite regularly these days since we had problems with Mum-in-law's some time ago when he was fitting a new bathroom sink. It eventually took about a month, as the stoptap wouldn't turn and the plumber couldn't make the roadside main stoptap turn, so we had to wait for the water company to replace it! Sorry, that all sounds like double Dutch. Maybe Sylvia will understand it though!!!) Back to the polish and duster - if I stop for long, I may not start again. Elisabeth |

Hi all, I've just returned from a shopping spree with Johan. It is a beautiful sunny day. We needed new floor covering for the kitchen, and hey ho in the first shop we bought it. I wanted to pop into the nursery for plants and flowers, but then Johan starts looking all tired and past it, so I said shall we go home. Well we went to a place where an old school friend of my daughter Janet's grows roses. I wanted to buy some as they are much nicer than you can buy in the shops. He only had white ones. Anyway, he did remember me - some 30 years ago this was. My two daughters used to bring every Tom, Dick and Harry home. Some to stay the night, some just for a meal. Our house was always popular. Anyway, he had not forgotten that and gave me 20 roses free and said I could come back every two weeks for roses - free. Kindness pays they say? Elisabeth, when I woke up this morning I saw a huge spider sitting looking at me. I quickly picked up a tissue paper and squashed him, or was it her? We don't want any little ones emerging, do we? Johan is just pouring me a glass of sherry. I should be doing my ironing, oh and start on the dinner, oh me oh my why can't I have peace! I suppose I'd better stop and do something, see you all another time. Love, Sylvia xxx |

Elizabeth m,i think you and Liz are relared by name and nature ,i always get the blame when something goes wrong in the house too, what is it with you women?lol.i think us males are going to get clannish before long ,and begin to get our own back. Let,s see ,i could go on strike ,refuse to cook ,refuse to take Liz shopping ,ditto cut the lawns ,and stop the housework, but then again ,Liz might go on strike too ,and begin slinging things around and i don't fancy that. Did everyone enjoy their easter break ,it was nice apart from the weather ,which was a letdown ,but it usually is every year. The garden is coming on well ,and we have just spent two hours potting on flowers and tomato plants, and the few veggie and onion plants, they will be ready to go out in a few weeks now. Physio again tonight ,i quite enjoy it now ,even if it is difficult ,and it helps a lot when you can meet other people in the same boat. The son is coming over at the weekend to help finish the patio ,which is going to finish off the garden nicely.i only have to get the shed moved then and we will be all square. I should then get more time for other things like a bit of cooking out in the open ,and a sit outside in the evenings,i can even roll back the patio doors and stick the puter under the awning ,luxury indeed..Time to be off now ,the hospital beckons ,i will report in later ,if i am recovered ,lol.Fred.Ptfg .&a&g&s. |

Hello EVeryone, missed getting on here last night ,after I put my message on i started to feel ill,was sick and had to go to the loo a few times and so called in sick, did not fancy running to the loo and forgetting the code number for the door etc. Just felt so sick all day and very bloated, must have eaten something as today I have been ok.Mind you have not had a lot to eat at all. Glad you got your floor covering and the roses sound great Sylvia. June ,you take it easy,it's nice doing things for people when you can,but you need time to yourself now and again. Kathleen,I am doing more hours at the library.I started on 18 per week and now I do 25.I should do 3 full days and a half, but sometimes it is two full days and three halves.( but not very often ) Glad Susan is doing so well.My Dad has another body scan in two weeks ,we should know what is happening then ,he has just finshed the first half of the chemo treatment he was having 16 sessions ,so he has two sessions then a review week ,so you are looking at about another 3/4months. Elisabeth,I gave the bathroom a good 'doing' the other day and two days later I don't know why I bothered,There is only me,John and David, and it looked like a load of kids had used it.!!! Fred,I bet you will be pleased when you are sorted in the garden and can enjoy all your hard work. Of to bed now,Take care ,Brenda |
