Baby, Why did you have picolax then? Was it to do with the previous tests, or something more personal! Brian.

I sympathise Butterfly (and with you Brian!) My son's so called IBS was put down to stress - he'd just started university. Three years later, we worked out that his Crohns was, and is, triggered by eating nuts, especially peanuts, which, strangely enough, didn't show up as a problem is any of the allergy tests he had! So you're right Brian, I wouldn't trust them! Good luck to you both, but moan, nag and stamp your feet until you get better (I wish I had!) Bev x

He had loads of those .................. His stomach pains got worse and worse and more and more often over a couple of years. Eventually he went to A and E 3 times in as many weeks with severe stomach pains, but they just gave him painkillers until it subsided and sent him home. Then he collapsed at home, we called an ambulance and he was admitted to hospital where it was found he had Crohns so severely it had ulcerated his colon which was bleeding badly. He was in hospital for a month, most of it on morphine, while they stabilised it .................. ! He's ok now, has to be careful what he eats, takes loads of medication and goes for 3 monthly check ups. Another severe attack and he will have to have part of his colon removed. He came close to dying, and that, they said, was IBS! Bev x

Oh dear Butterfly, I'm probably scaring the life out of you! I don't know how common or rare it is to misdiagnose IBS, but I've known a couple of people that its happened to. I think its wise to be aware that it can happen and if your symptoms don't ease with medication, or they get worse, then go back to your doctor and make a fuss. The symptoms Jon had were stomach pains, that were at times very severe, with noticeable bloating - but this was also intermittent - some days he was fine. He lost a lot of weight, because it got worse when he ate more than a small snack. Try not to worry too much Bev x

No pain no gain, I'm afraid. Its either have it done or not. if you want to get to the bottom (sorry that doesn't sound right...)of it, then it will have to be done. Its IS undignified, it IS uncomfortable...but it doesn't hurt as such.Take you mum with you and you'll be fine. Jess

Baby

Baby Report 31 Jul 2005 19:05

Just a thought- have they asked you to compile a food diary yet.if not, its something you perhaps ought to do, maybe you'll see a pattern emerge..what you eat = pain. Have they put you on, or advised you to restict your diet?

Baby

Baby Report 31 Jul 2005 19:18

they tried that in hospital but then i started being sick agaqin so they put me on fluids and the food diary thing went out of the window

Unknown Report 31 Jul 2005 19:19

I know it's a bit off topic but have the kittens got names yet? What do they look like?

The Bag

The Bag Report 31 Jul 2005 19:20

Sick? IBS usually affects the other end! What have you done about restricing your diet?.Anything? presumably food doesn't make you sick now.

Baby

Baby Report 31 Jul 2005 19:23

Bendy wendy-they are called poppy and missy i was sick because they kept me on fluids for 4 days and i was sick when they introduced food again. I will start a food diary see if i can figure out what it is.thanks for the idea
