A bit like having a bellyache really. 'Stab' was probably a bit OTT; 'uncomfortable' would be a better description. Brian

Hi Baby, Just got back from the hospital, after my colonoscopy. It was a doddle. Nurse explained everything in detail beforehand....what to expect; the sedation procedure; how they would make me as comfortable as possible throughout; how I might feel during and after the examination. Advised me that if the painkillers injected weren't strong enough to ask for a gas & air mask, which was nearby; how long it may take (between 10 and 30 minutes) etc. Really put my mind at rest. Doctor came into treatment room. Told me a bit more of what to expect. Gave me a consent form to sign. Then got on with it. Inserted the colonoscope, bit by bit. I followed it, along with the staff present, on a TV screen above the bed. Fascinating! The insertion seemed to go on forever, one or two stabs of pain - nothing too bad, though. Didn't need the mask. After about 25 minutes the examination was complete. Wheeled into the recovery room. Lay there for about 20 minutes till the nurse asked if I was OK to get dressed. Got off the bed feeling a bit doddery. She accompanied me to changing room. Left me to go and ring my wife to come and collect me, whilst I dressed. Then was given a cuppa and biscuits. My wife arrived. Nurse ran through results of the procedure - thankfully nothing 'nasty' was found. Told me to contact my GP in 2 to 3 weeks, who, by then, should have received results of a biopsy sample the doctor had taken 'on the way out'. And that was it! Wife doesn't drive so rang for a taxi to take us home (we only live a ten-minute walk away, but you are not allowed to walk even that distance, in case you conk out along the way). Hope that allays you worries about your impending visit, Babe. The day before is by far the worst part of the whole thing. If you would like to speak to me 'confidentially', so to speak, then e-mail me via GR (you know how, don't you?). Brian, ;<D

Cheese butty possibly? two 'culprits' that i have cut out are dairy products- (completely) and as much wheat as I can. I dont worry about Hidden wheat as perhaps a coeliac would have to( in say gravy etc) maybe you could try some experimentation?

Bear in mind you have to write EVERYTHING down. every last mouthful.. How is you pain today (like now) and has it increased following what you had for lunch? What did you have for lunch and in what sort of quantities?

The Bag Report 31 Jul 2005 19:20

Sick? IBS usually affects the other end! What have you done about restricing your diet?.Anything? presumably food doesn't make you sick now.

Unknown Report 31 Jul 2005 19:19

I know it's a bit off topic but have the kittens got names yet? What do they look like?

Baby

Baby Report 31 Jul 2005 19:18

they tried that in hospital but then i started being sick agaqin so they put me on fluids and the food diary thing went out of the window

The Bag

The Bag Report 31 Jul 2005 19:11

Just a thought- have they asked you to compile a food diary yet.if not, its something you perhaps ought to do, maybe you'll see a pattern emerge..what you eat = pain. Have they put you on, or advised you to restict your diet?

Baby

Baby Report 31 Jul 2005 19:05

i know im being silly its just the thought of it,i know thousand of people have it done

The Bag

The Bag Report 31 Jul 2005 18:42

No pain no gain, I'm afraid. Its either have it done or not. if you want to get to the bottom (sorry that doesn't sound right...)of it, then it will have to be done. Its IS undignified, it IS uncomfortable...but it doesn't hurt as such.Take you mum with you and you'll be fine. Jess
