Not knocked out but you can have a sedative. I chose not to coz I was driving and would need someone else to escort me otherwise. Its not too bad. It is a bit uncomfortable but over fairly quickly. Beth :) |

Have had this for about ten years ,but half that time didn't know what it was ,just thought some foods didnot agree with me. After the doctor told me what it was I eliminated lots of foods from my diet. I have to be careful with dairy products, fruit, white bread, pastry to name a few. I know what to have and not have but it is trial and error. What suits one, doesn't suit all.so you need to find what you can have and not have. Less stress certainly helps, Hope this helps.Brenda |

BB. I had to have a a tube put down my throat about 10 years ago. Doctors thought I had an Ulcer. I was given a choice on the letter I received with my appointment. I wanted the sedative, that slighty sedates you. But they advised the numbing throat spray. Apparently you are able to answer the Doctors questions by nodding and can remember what was told you, during the investigation. It does not hurt at all, just slightly uncomforable. Good Luck Jenny.x |

I was diagnosed with IBS some time ago, and was already on Thyroxine for an under active Thyroid which gives you similar bowel problems to IBS if you arent on the right medication , I have been quite bad recently but just found out a couple of weeks ago was on too low thyroxine so it was increased ,after about 10 days I am so much better, so if you think you may have a Thyroid problem get it checked out as IBS can be a lot worse if you arent on the right drugs |

Had the camera thingy - did get a sedative. The worse part is the day before when you can't eat and the medicine to...um.. how shall I say... 'clear you out'... that is the worse bit. Good luck. Anna |

My son was diagnosed with IBS. He had all kinds of tests, inlcuding allergy tests to try to find what foods were triggering it, but still it got worse. Then he got terribly ill and it was found he didn't have IBS at all, he had Crohns disease. Do be careful of IBS diagnoses, it seems very fashionable these days to call any stomach problem IBS. Hi Baby, I've had it big-time for almost 5 years. I'm sure mine originated through stress. I don't knowingly have the stress now that I had then, but I've still got the IBS. Been to my GP numerous times. He's tried me on 3 or 4 types of medication but to no avail. I haven't a lot of faith in him on this problem. Had a food intolerance test with an organisation called Yorktest last November (you send a small sample of blood which they analyse). Cost me over £250! My GP was not impressed with their results. I had a gastroscopy a couple of months ago. Tomorrow I'm fixed up for a colonoscopy! On the Picolax today ('scuse me, be back in a minute!).... (as I was saying...) second dose due in about 10 minutes!! Had hardly anything to eat, but gallons to drink. The point about not doing too much the day after, or driving, etc. is that you have a light sedation immediately preceding the procedure which needs 24 hours to completely clear up. Likewise you must have someone to take you home afterwards. If not, they won't do it. Let you know how it went about this time tomorrow. Brian, ;<O |
