Dorothy Report 15 Jun 2011 12:42

goodmorning it is 7-30 am my time and we have the makings of a lovely day lots of sunshine ahead so that will be nice, they have finished the balconys and they look great a nice cream colour so I am up early as I am going to try out my new window washing gadget, it is made by windex and is an impregnated pad on a long pole that folds down when not needed I bought it so I would not have to climb on a small stool, the window in the living room is quite large along with the balcony doors this is supposed to clean 20 windows before adding a new pad so we will see how it goes. I see brenda is not on line hope all is well brenda with davids dad never a easy time. this sunday is fathers day over here so I am going over to andrews for a meal, on the 27/28 bryan is off too camp for the summer I shall miss him the councillors get 24hrs off every 2 weeks and his mom and dad will go and get him and bring him home for a quick visit he will be there for 2months his 2 female cousins are also there as councillors and the younger siblings and cousins will be there for the annual 2 week visit, his oldest cousin suzanne it is her last year as she goes to uni this fall I was her nurse when she was born time flies by so fast. did I mention that andrews cousin danelle is still in a coma over 2 months now she had several bleeds in the brain she is youngest of five girls born to andrews dads brother still on life support but the doctors have not given up as she is only 45. well that is all for me off to do the window hope it works bye for now dorothy

Evening all.glad your balcony is done Dorothy, your window gadget sounds good.we have a window cleaner(well when he gets here)but have trouble doing the insides as they are tall windows up to the ceiling and I need the steps to do them and the kitchen ones i can not touch due to the cabinets,John does do them for me and does a good job,but I do have to ask a few days in advance.!!
Davids Dad is ok at the minute ,he is still getting dialysis and is being moved to the Manchester Royal Infirmary to the renal unit there.seems they think he had a sort of Virus which is a sort of autu immune thing,He is to have a kidney biopsy when he gets there and then they should know how bad or good things are.!!!
David is ok at the minute ,he was shocked when he first saw his dad in the hospital, but seems to be coping ok.
weather was ok today nothing brilliant, was dry this morning and rained this afternoon, was thinking of having a cup of tea and reading my book ,but the rain stopped that.
Having lunch with some friends tomorrow its one of thier birthdays, hope its dry we are not sure were we will eat so don.t want to be walking round in the rain.
Hope your exs neice is ok I do remember you saying about her.Hope the camp goes ok for all the family. Its fathers day over here as well on Sunday.
better go and make some phone calls before the people I need to call settle in to watch tv etc.

Gooood morning Never Land ,the place where you never get settled weather ,he he,talking about blighty ,land of The pharohs eeeeer ,i mean Fairoes ,that group of islands up north of here ,yep Fred is in a funny mood this morning.
Nice to hear that your balcony is finished Dorothy ,now ,lets hope that all you over there ,get a very nice summer,so that all the young people in the camps can have a brilliant time, with lots of outdoor adventures.
Good to here to that you are managing to get around better Brenda, and that your window cleaners are active, you are lucky lol,not many people can afford two of them,he he ,i hope you do hubby a couple of special meals when he has done your inside glass for you.
We got down to the town yesterday morning ,where i went into Argos and got the spike for the rotary clothes line, and then went to B & Q for the gravel and cement mix, which i needed to grout the spike in with.
What a perishing job that was,i had to nick the stainless steel carving knife to cut through the turf with because my spades have a curved blade ,no good for cutting a straight line.
There i was ,on the kneeling pad sawing away ,when the neighbour looked over the fence and said ,how do you cook that then ,he he,boil or roast ,couldn't help but chuckle myself ,at what i must have looked like crouched there ,knife in hand.
I only cut three sides anyway ,and using both spades peeled the turf back in a roll, exposing the soil.which proved to be nearly as hard as the concrete i was going to put in the hole.
I finished up using one of the sharper trowels ,chewing the soil out and putting it into the garden bowls i keep for this kind of thing, landing up with two full bowls of soil ,over a foots worth ,lol..
I then cut a circular hole further down to start the spike smaller hole ,and finished off using a three pound mas hammer to drive the spike right down ,it's full 16 inches, finishing up with the tip just under turf level.
The concrete was easy ,a full bucket of the stuff [dry] ,mixed with pea gravel .tipped into the hole and then watering it in with a can ,and fine rose.
At this point i was half expecting to hear the neighbour say ,how long will it take for the spike to grow ,but he had gone out somewhere, maybe to the nearest pub to spread tales about the crazy git next door who was chopping lumps out of his lawn with a 18 inch carving knife.
I went out this morning spread some soil over the concrete and the soil to raise the turf when i rolled it back out ,put the line into the spike ,cut the turf so that i could roll it around the pole .and ,bingo ,turf back down and some of that shake on patch repair kit,so that in four weeks the lawn will have sunk down to it's proper level ,and the cuts will be hidden by the new grass.
I still have to fill in the old hle further up the lawn ,but left it for now ,it starting to drizzle ,and i wasn't going to get soaked when i can do it later on.
The garden looks a bit of all right now ,the roses are out ,the courgette plants are dug into the border, next to the Rosemary, and the veggies are doing very well.
Had the first of our strawberries last night which the wife did with low fat cream ,and a nice salad for the work done for her out back ,but have to admit ,it will look good once it settles back in.
I went to bed last night ,tired ,pretty sore ,but satisfied ,and would you believe it couldnt sleep because i was soooo hyped up with all the work :-S.
Think the wife has designs on going to town today to renew our metro passes ,so she can buy me a sarnie and a cuppa at the market cafe that we like to go to :-) before we visit the meat and cheese stalls before going for the bus back to Morrison's where we will park the car to catch the bus to town.
Time to go anyway ,have a nice day all.Fred. :-D

Dorothy Report 16 Jun 2011 13:23

goodmorning I was exhausted fred by the time I had read all about all that work you did yesterday good joband then you mentioned going to the meat and cheese stall how I envy that. I am very pleased with my windex gadget it is the best 14-95(dollars) I have spent in a long time the windows are crystal clear and no cloth needed to wipe them down so the balcony is all set and looks quite good of course the weather is lovely(at 8am) but rain in the forecast for later but a lovely week-end ahead I can see the highway up too the cottages is busy allready I guess some people have headed out early, brenda glad to hear that davids dad is improving that must be a relief for david hope they can fix things up. my friends visitors from england fly back this evening the 2 weeks seem to have flown by I always think that 3 weeks is better for a visit when you come this far and now they say they should have done that both are retired so no work too rush back too. I was sorry to read about the riots in vancouver because they lost the stanly cup at the final hockey game last night gives the country a bad name, lots of sports to-day the u.s open golf tournement opens to-day with lots of golfers from home in with a chance, and then of course on monday it is tennis for 2 weeks from wimbledon I shall be in raptures plus we get about 7hrs of coverage each day but that does not mean I sit on my !!!! for those 7hrs I am lucky I have a tv in all the bedrooms plus the living room so I can go from room to room cleaning as I go ( the ones in the 3 bedrooms are small ) and I have had them for years but work fine, the son and family have a wide screen one and you feel like the balls are going to hit you not sure I really like them, fred hope you and john have a great fathers day on sunday and that fred someone does the cooking for you also fred I found some new things for the bar-b-que sauces that is and a new spice, the spice is wild whiskey smoked bar-b-que put out by club house la grille seasoning and the sauces are as follows tequila lime habanero and 3 peppercorn with brandy I hope that andrew likes them I try to keep an eye out for new ones sounds really boozy but the tequila one states it is tangy and smokey and the other one includes black green and pink peppercorns so we will see how it goes bye for now dorothy

Brenda Report 17 Jun 2011 01:21

Well looking at the time I suppose I should say morning all,!!!!!
I had a sleep for ten minutes on the sofa when I got back from town this afternoon and it is stopping me getting to sleep tonight!!
I had been to do a oouple of errands and meet some friends for lunch, it was Margaret's birthday.
We had a pub lunch I was a bit mad and had cheese and onion pie which came with baked beans and chips!!! pie was really good and filling so I did not have all the chips and none of the beans.
Fred ,I was thinking of getting one of those washing lines ,but don't think I will now .if its that fiddly to put in.We have our back paved so would not like to think what is under them and would have to be removed to getthe spike in !!!!!
Was thinking about you when the advets came on for Wimbledon Dorothy!!
Hopw you get to see some good matches.
John will be watching the golf at weekend he will be playing a game himself tomorrow and was out today doing some errands himself so has not watched it yet.
We are also going to see his mother at weekend at the new caravan site they moved their van to last month.
Might try having some warm milk and see if that will send me of to sleep.
Take care
Brenda

badger Report 17 Jun 2011 07:57

Naughty Brenda ,[smacks her wrist ] he he ,the pie sounded great ,but the chips don't do a diet any good ,you could have done with eating a few beans instead ,lol.
I had trouble too ,i sometimes have a catnap when i have been out in the garden ,and found that i couldn't settle at night either.
I then tried Camomile tea and found out that i had found the answer ,it relaxes me easily and i nod off in no time ,works for me anyway.
Your spike should be no problem getting it through a flagstone ?,buy ,or better borrow a proper hole borer cutter that the builders use ,drill through the flag ,and then use a mell hammer to drive the spike down the hole ,job done, only don't buy the spike at B & Q ,they are soft and ruddy useless, get the spike from Argos ,if they can go down in my soil ,they will go through yours ,lol, only thing i suggest is ,use a brick to clout the mell with ,or you may burr the top of the spike over making getting the post into it.
I have my diabetic review this morning ,and the wife has an appointment at the same time ,a busy two weeks at the hospital this month ,my retinal scan is due next week ,and the day before i have to get the missus to the Freeman for a bone biopsy to see if the steroids she is taking require her to have calcium tablets to replace the loss of bone mass.
I managed to collar the son yesterday ,and told him i have the gear now ,to raise the flagstone inside the gate and build the foundation up ,so he has promised to come this afternoon.
I had a look at the Global Disaster Watch this morning before coming on genes ,and found some disturbing news on the climate.
It would seem that heavy weight scientists from around the world ,now think that the climate change does not mean global warming at all,but could well mean a mini ice age within a decade, which could explain why the summers are getting cooler and shorter and the winters getting colder.
What are the countries leaders going to use an excuse to shove taxes on global warming fines now? ,more hype to fleece the population i reckon,it has all been.
Enough of the doom and gloom anyway ,suffice to the day ,he he.
I read a report on the new Trent ,and G E C jet engines that the aircraft industry is starting to fit to all new airliners and cargo aircraft ,great ,they burn 15% less fuel per hour can run on a new bio fuel which will reduce fuel cost further ,and produce less emmisions.
The industry say ,way to go ,this will cost the cargo industry far less money ,true ,and less expensive fares for customers [not true] what a load of twaddle ,the companies will All pocket the savings and charge customers the same if not more,or am i being cynical ?
We have a lovely morning here again ,but coming up too the weekend it all seems to be heading downhill, what with lower temperatures more cloud ,and wouldn't you know it rain he he.
I was so pleased to hear that Dorothy is on the go regarding the new look balcony and planting ,and i loved the suggestions as to the marinades, gonna have to try a couple of those.
Yep i love our cheese stall ,as good as the one in bury ,because as well as every cheese you can think of ,they sell rennet for peeps to make their own ,and sell every spice too ,three huge shelves at the back covered in bottles like the old sweetie ones you saw in the sweet shops years ago ,the lady said she can order Salt petre in for me if i need it for my corned beef .way to go ,because it means i don't have to send to France for it anymore.
Well ,time for a quick look round the boards before getting ready to go out.
Fred ;-)

Evening all,You have both been busy and seem to be enjoying yourselves!!.
Hope the check ups went well and the removal of the flagstone Fred.
Did you go with andrew and the family on their day out Dorothy?
Was out last night with some friends from the Library,we went to an Italian restaurant not far from me,it was great we had a nice catch up chat and a great meal, was good at the start and mains but was naughty again and gave into a pudding!!
Going over to Johns mothers caravan tomorrow, just for the day,so its an early start and I should be in bed, however as the American open is on John is still up watching it so iam sat here with him.!!!Will be going up when I have had my horlicks,//
Have a nice weekend.

badger Report 19 Jun 2011 12:11

Afternoon all ,Fred Has now finished indoors and told the missus ,that's it for the day ,me does the housework, you does the meals ,weeeell ,it is fathers day after all.
Yep the flagstone episode is now over ,we lifted them to find only sand underneath ,lol, so when the winter set in ,what with the high winds ,the sand slipped down the slope.
We used a cement ,mortar mix this time ,so with all the rain these last two days ,i think the mix will have set by now ,and there should be no future problems.
The cheese stall is great Dorothy ,but the market is only about a quarter of the size of Bury ,and the black pudding isn't half as good ,lol.
Back shortly ,dinner beckons hew he ,Fred. :-D

Morning all, seems like a nice day for us today, hope so I am out and about.According to the weather services it will be our best day this week.
Hope you enjoyed the rest of fathers day Fred.
We had a good visit to Johns mothers caravan on its new site.
Its not far from the old site but will hope fully be better for them.
Its smaller and less commercialised,in factt there is nothing there at all.!!
Its really pretty and set out really carefully and non of the vans can be rented out for sub lets.its owners and families only which should keep it quieter.
Have to do some ironing .but not doing as much as I was going to do before I go out ,going to leave some for tomorrow as its not going to be good weather wise .
Take care

badger Report 20 Jun 2011 11:16

Morning all, just in from a few odds and end jobs out you know where .
A lovely morning here too ,but there are now signs of the clouds rolling back in .The garden is now in full bloom ,roses and the pansy everywhere out back ,the iris and Lilly along the hedging out front, signs of a summer at last ,he he.
Nothing much to do today ,housework and greenhouse done already and signs of a lazy afternoon,in the old homestead ,he he :-)
Tomorrow ,we have to be at the Freeman hospital by 9 am ,for the wife's bone density scan ,so i think it will be dinner time by the time we get home again,it being a bus job ,no where to park over there ,and only a couple of dozen eparking spaces for disabled ,which ,for a regional centre for heart and skeletal problems is damn stupid :-(.
Yes ,we will get the bus ,but by the time we have walked up the drive ,and got inside the doors ,after a good few stops along the way ,Liz is tired out before she even starts an hours [at least] examination.
Dinner today is a meat and veggie pie ,with green beans and new potatoes ,nice and easy .
Hope all are well ,and doing well , :-D Fred.

hi one and all I forgot too thank you fred for the photo's they looked very good,no brenda I did not go on the outing to wonderland with the family it is a great place but the days of riding on the big dipper are over and there is a lot of walking it is for the young I think but I did have a lovely time on fathers day with the family and I think that andrew enjoyed his day even if he did the cooking he liked the new sauces and seasonings that I bought him, hope john enjoyed the golf rory was just wonderful what a great young talant, of course wimbledon started yesterday I enjoyed all the matches but did get some work done around the place, to-day I shall spend watching but also cleaning the master bedroom ie taking the windows out and cleaning them and then dust around especially one of the 8 bookcases in the whole place the one in the bedroom contains a lot of my royal books and the small one has photo albums and things I have bought in england ie. phamplets from the places I have visited. one saturday lindy not go to wonerland as she and a group of her students where in a 5k run along the bay for a charity she said it was good and all the girls finished it was a great day weather wise so it was just andrew and the children and they were allowed to bring a friend each with them so a good week-end was had by all, one of my friends called to say she had been speaking to my sister and apparently she is coming to see me in the fall that should be fun wonder when she is going to mention that too me not that it really matters it will be good to see her, she ismaking both isobell and I a quilted handbag she has done several and they are just beautifull she entered 2 in a quilting show in calgary and recieved good comments about them, they have just returned from seattle they had gone to a wedding and had a nice time it was ont the way back that they saw the black bear wandering along the highway shoulder, well back to the tennis hope you all have a good day and that fred and liz get good results from the day at the hospital bye dorothy

badger Report 21 Jun 2011 17:45

afternoon everyone ,well ,the hospital visit and tests went well and it turns out Liz's bone mass is well down ,and need building up .
Liz told the sister doing the tests about her breathing problems on taking the tablets that the doctor gave her ,and were told ,try them again ,and if there is a breathing problem ,to get in touch and they will give her different ones that will do the same job ,another three types are available and if none work ,there is an injection ,that is given monthly.
We came home got the car out and went to the shops where we found some lovely Cyprus potatoes, just right for the skins tonight, don't care what anyone else says ,they are unsurpassable for jacket potatoes ,really tasty ,lovely and floury when nuked,so we will have them with one of these tins of straight from the tin tuna steaks, and see what they are like.
On the way back from the shops ,i noticed that the knock i asked to be seen to on the service was still there ,indeed ,seemed a little worse :-0 so i got on the phone when we got home and asked what was going on down there .
it turned out that the service department never sent on the request to the workshop grrrrrr,so i said i was taking the car straight back and wanted it done properly.
Asked what was wrong when i arrived i said the knock i asked to be seen to was still there ,and if anything it seemed to be worse.,and would they please take it on a road test, handed the keys over ,and took the wife for a coffee in reception.
Bingo ,as we walked in ,who was there but the manager[Fred Chuckles evilly] collaring said manager ,and saying ,do you mind telling me why i am still waiting for you to call me to make arrangements to take my car in to have the bodywork ,that was damaged in the workshop, repaired ? silence] so i said [,you must remember ,you stood there outside this door ,and said ,take thje car home for now ,and we will sort it out for you.
I collared him in front of a few customers ,who were all agog , ears pinned back ,and this manager knew he had been trapped,he he ,well ,the car is staying in the garage for them to fix the suspension problem ,and in the morning ,goes to the paint shop to have the body gouges seen to,so it turned out well ,and that ruddy manager wont try it on with me in future ,and he knows it.
The knocking turned out to be two loose bolts on the subframe ,which were supposedly checked on the servicing ,being directly coupled to the front end suspension so i can see one of the fitters getting a kick up the rear end .
I also told the lass in the office that the water bottle cover was on the car when it was sent in ,i had NOT lost it at all ,and i was NOT paying for a new one ,being a lease car ,it was down to them ,lol.hmmmmmm , i think i will have no more shinanigins from Nissan.,Fred had a good tutor ,he he. :-P.
Off now to take my tatties out of the nuker ,be back tomorrow, Fred. :-)

Having a sleepless night again tonight .not had many sleepless nights for a while.Hope they do not last .
Had a nice day out yesterday ,but was in a lot of discomfort when walking about .will have to slow down again.
Not sure if I am out with my sister this week, her husbands nephew has been killed he was in his late 20.s and it was a car smash.they are waiting to be told about the funeral ,and are really upset by it.
Hope the weather is not as bad as they say it will be,as it will probably stop us getting anywhere we want to go if my sister is coming down.,
Glad you had a good fathers day Dorothy, and John did enjoy the golf. Not seen any tennis.only a couple of highlights on the news.
Fred hope the car is sorted for you and well done on the showdown,Hope Liz gets sorted with the tablets and the bone density is cleared up as well.
Renewed my genes membership today but needed to change my payment details as I have changed my card ,hope it doesn't cause me any problems.
Feeling abit chilly in here tonight so might get back to bed and see if I can get to sleep.
TAke care ,Brenda

Dorothy Report 23 Jun 2011 00:44

hi brenda hope you have been able to get some sleep it is so annoying when you can't does not happen too me very often but when it does I have now lerned to get up and maybe sit out on the balcony for abit or read a book insteda of staying in bed wishing I could sleep, glad to see fred and liz had a good visit for the tests and what a guy he is good for him with the problems with the car hope it will be fixed to his satisfaction I don't think that they will mess around with him again. bad day at tennis to-day our boy milos raonic had a bad fall and is hurt so he had too default he must be so disappointed but on the whole I am enjoying it very much, cloudy and rainy to-day and for the next 3 days I believe. the youngest grandchild Ian told me on sunday that hwen school is out he is going to be having sailing lessons on the bay near me the bay looks lake a large lake he does sale at the camp he goes to in august but mostly canoe so this is sail boats they do a 2 week clinic it sounds like fun, I asked him what position he now plays at football(american) an is a defensive line backer (whatever that means) but he is enjoying it, Bryan is finishing up exams and may leave for camp on monday I shall miss him 2months seems like a long time I may go up with the family when he goes depending on how may of the vans they take (people carriers) as they may have too take his cousin rebecca apparently her parents (lindys sister can't get the day off bryan and rebecca will be given some more training befor the first batch of campers arrive the programs are two weeks for all who go it is expensive I think about 1300 dollars for one child but it is a good camp and they keep a very good eye on the kids and as I have mentioned before lindys family have been going for several generations, for me give me the best suite in a good hotel not my cup if tea/coffee well that is it for me now its time for a bit of tv viewing ie the new bye for now dorothy

Morning ,Dorothy and Brenda ,got my car back ,all fixed up ,but the guy who was supposed to do the paint job phoned in sick ,but no matter ,i booked it in to be done on the 6 July because we are on holiday next week and can't have it seen to then.
The car is a lot quieter ,and handles better now that the subframe isn't floating around ,but after i lambasted them for not picking that up on the road test after the service ,i rather think they will check my car for carefully in future [don't mess with the old guy ,he bites ,lol]'
Do try a cup of camomile tea for Bed Brenda ,it relaxes you to the point where you nod off very quickly ,i sleep much better these days, having a cup every night.
Glad to hear that the kids are getting on well at the camp Dorothy ,it's about time they started that institution over here too ,it always sounded a good idea to me,giving the bairns an interest ,and giving them a lot of fun,and exercise instead of moping around the house ,bored ,getting under parents feet ,and getting into mischief.
Think our Brenda ,has launched herself a little to quickly back into the fray don't you think Dorothy? ,he he ,she needs to remember she is no longer a 19 year old [she wishes] ,and needs to be a tad more genteel ,lol.
Must admit ,i did that very same thing after the arthritis in the legs hit me ,it took quite a while before i found out that pacing myself was the best way forward ,we ,none of us are getting any younger [i wish ] he he :-P.
Another morning of wet windy cool outlook .[sigh] 18 c in late june is naf ,Dorothy in the cooler climbs of Canada is getting fruit on her vines and plants ,whili i am still without ,or at best little green things :-S on my bushes ,[sob] ,not fair ,lol. :-0.
Thank goodness we go on holiday next week ,i need somerthing to cheer me up ,this weather is now driving me nuts ,the only thing growing properly are the hedges grrrrrr ,and it's too wet to get the trimmers out to cut them [sobs again ,he he] :-P.
Oh well ,i will have a look round the boards to see what's what, see you later on maybe ,Fred :-)

Afternoon Dorothy and Fred, had a good nights sleep and a good day up to now.
Have an Horlicks each night to help me sleep but will look at cammamille tea ,has it got caffine in it as i will need a decaf one if it is.Have found a decafe green tea which I like.
Been out with my sister but because of the weather we did not go to Bury we went down to the Lowry, which is all under cover.
My sister got a good few things,Sandals,a couple of birthday presents and a wedding gift.I got some underwear and a birthday present.
we had lunch but I was not enamoured with it ,won't be having that again
Did not walk round too much and we left when I started to feel pain.
The grandchildren sound like they will be having a ball at camp, hope the weather stays good for them and that they have enougth room in the van for you Dorothy. Looks like a few players have been injured at Wimbledon, and we have just seen the young girl English player has made it to the next round..
Hope the weather stays good for you Fred when you get on holiday.and they sort the car out finally.
managed to get a couple of plants for the garden at less than half price as they looked half dead. But I could see they still had green shoots so thought they would make it with some TLC.
Having a very simple tea tonight ,Johns favourite egg and chips,we do not have it very often and he really does enjoy it even more than steak.!!!
Take care
