Kathleen Report 23 Jan 2010 14:38

Just a quick message, I have posted two since 4th January but neither seems to have made it through cyber space to this page although at the time I could see them. Gremlins at work????

Most annoying as one was a really long one, so a belated Happy Birthday to Sylvia, hope you are feeling better now that your tablets have been changed.
Dorothy, enjoy the tennis - you really are a loyal fan.
Brenda, hope you and John are feeling better now - sounds like you were really suffering with nasty cold/flue.
Fred, hope your visit to the dentist solves the problem - toothache isn't any fun (neither is visiting the dentist).
Hope everyone else who may look in is keeping well and warm (or cool in the case of the Down-unders)

Hopefully be back to post a proper message soon.

Take care all
Love
Kathleen

John Report 25 Jan 2010 03:07

Hi everyone, almost a month has past since I was last on GR and took a few moments to catch up on comments. Britain seemed to be locked in a cold zone for awhile there. Our temperatures have been up and down in the past week ranging from 19C to 25C in New Plymouth to higher temperatures elsewhere in the country.
Gayle has had problems with her feet for the past three weeks with one swelling quite badly and had to use one of my old crutches to get around. The doctor gave her anitbotics. Monday (18Jan) the pain was quite bad and she tried to see her doctor but couldn't get an appointment until the next day. A call to the renal unit advised her to go to ED - seven hours later and a prescription we were back home. Tuesday she went to her doctor. Today things seem better but its going to take awhile before she is 100% and is no longer use a crutch. For a time there she was sleeping in another room because of the problem.
Craig will be visiting us next week as its a provincial holiday where he lives and it was decided to bring Gayle's 60th birthday celebration forward so he didn't have to make two trips down.
Have a great week

Morning all ,from the old codger who is now minus 4 teeth in all ,seeing as the dentist said that filling the offending tooth was a waste of time.
Felt quite sorry or him really ,he pushed and pulled ,went from left to right without a lot of luck ,but managed in the end ,the tooth, as it turns out had 3 roots instead of 2 making it awkward to get out.
Nice to hear from you John but really sorry to hear that Gayle has kidney problems ,and i hope the doctors sort her out like they did me some years ago, luckily for me i was only left with enlarged organs after they sorted me out,and i have had no further problems with them, hope Gayle is as lucky.
Hope everyone is set up for the Burns supper tonight,no excuse now saying you are vegitarian seeing as Halls [one of the main producers ] make a veggie version with no animal fat in at all.
All i have to do now ,is go out back and pull a neep out of the veggie patch and i am ready to go,lol.
Have to go and put the sack out for collection ,some charity is collecting clothing for children in Afghanistan ,an ideal way to get shot of unwanted clothing with out cluttering up the recycle bin.
Catch you all later,Fred.

Hi all,
I hardly dare say it, but I do feel well. I have still to see two specialists next week, but I have no pain, no swollen face any more.
Thank you Kathleen for my belated birthday greetings. Don't want too many birthdays do we? Gosh now 78! Johan is 85 in March and he is also well. We are hoping to be able to get away for a break soon, so keep your fingers crossed for us.
Johan went to our brother in law's cremation on Tuesday. He went by car to our youngest daughter's house and then they took the taxi to Rotterdam. In Rotterdam my eldest daughter and her partner from Eindhoven picked them up to take them to the church. I would have liked to have gone but that would have been tempting fate.
Johan has been to his Veteran's club and I am just enjoying the peace and quiet.
I think we've seen the last of the snow now.
It has been a beautiful day, full of sunshine.
Johan is off again tomorrow to his club, but has promised to fetch some money for me and odds and ends of shopping.
I put in a huge order at the grocery store by us on the internet and they will deliver on Wednesday.
I had a lovely letter from a girlfriend whom I used to work with in London. I thought she wouldn't write any more,.Her 2nd husband died last year and she is very lonely.
We were both 14 years of age!
Now keep well everybody and Fred are y ou having implant teeth to fill up the gap in your mouth?

badger Report 29 Jan 2010 08:46

Good morning old friend ,it's nice to hear that you are feeling LOT BETTER ,AND THAT HUBBY IS STILL GETTING AROUND OKAY.
The gap in between the teeth stays as it is ,lol.i still have a full set minus four so i am quite happy to carry on regardless
I was on the net yesterday and found a sausage maker that supplies the tools to make your own,has loads of the recipes for making sausages without all the fat that the shop ones have in,soooooo a recipe book is on the way from them ,f.O.C .
The main reason for hunting this firm out is because they supply cooking grade salt petre without which i can't get that lovely red colour in my corned beef, all the sausages i can now make are a bonus he he ,oh joy ,lots of time in the kitchen in spring sand summer experimenting with meat ,and veggie sausages ,patties, and burgers ,plenty of B B Qs on the way.
Don't be too sure about the finish of the snow just yet he he ,we have snow flurries forcast for today and the weekend, and the cold is back ,brrrrrrr [oh to be in Cyprus he he] .
Hi to to our Brenda ,it's okay it was just my sister in law who works [again at carla gran and her going off half cocked ,i checked on the travel pages for Fleetwood ,Blackpool and Manchester ,and there is no such animal .lol
They are replacing all the track through fleetwood and parts of the tramway,as you no doubt know ,and ,they are putting in a new stop called Manchester ,and thats where the mistake arose he he,sis in law will have a red face when i pull her about it.
We are off out for dinner today with the eldest son and partner ,we don't know where yet but there are some nice places to eat that we havn't tried yet ,so it may yet be a favourite haunt,or somewhere totally new
must get on with the housework now ,catch you later,Fred

hi it is friday evening my time we had a blizzard yesterday it poured down snow and was very cold it was -26 this morning and that was without counting in the wind chill factor andrew came over and cleaned my car off for me so I did not have to go out and do it, but for the last 3hrs it has been snowing again I hope that it will stop soon as I want to go out to-morrow tothe shops. brenda have a good time in bury along with the black pudding and meat pies. the family are snowboarding and ski-ing to-morrow and hockey is on the agenda as well though bryan is still not allowed to try out his knee as yet. andrew is supposed to fly to halifax on sunday but they have been having a bad storm out there so maybe his flight will be delayed.. I watched a great match to-day betwwn roger federer and the french guy, so the men's final will be great but who to cheer for roger or andy that is my problem it will be another set the alarm for 3-30 am sunday morning as with all the other sports on on a sunday there is no guarante if it will be shown later in the day so it is an early night for me to-night take care bye for now dorothy

Hi all,
Well I had a successful visit to the gynaecologist yesterday. A very sympathetic young lady and easy to talk to. She couldn't believe it when she saw my history of troubles and said we must do something. Well I had all the tests. I had an appointment at 11.00 and left 4.00 pm. No stone left unturned this time.
I saw the pelvis physiotherapist, amongst others. It seems that I now have to wait for the BIG 4 to get together and discuss what they can do with me - no I won't be there!
This will take two weeks.
They supplied lunch for me and I asked for Johan as well. I could choose what I wanted and chose a cheese roll. Well this was a brown bread roll with cheese and lettuce, a carton of milk and a tangerine. The rest came without me being asked!
This was all free.No wonder that our health service is becoming more and more expensive.
All the waiting rooms at the hospital have their own coffee/tea machines, so that you can help yourself while waiting.
greetings Sylvia xxx
