+++DetEcTive+++ Report 29 Jul 2012 14:16

We did wonder if the late(ish) start was something to do with time zones in other parts of the world. After all, like it or not, its a major International event. During last week 30 minutes or so had already been cut from the end of the 'show' section because of the length.

It must be hard to schedule things so that the N.Americans can catch some or most of it when they get home from work, or so the Australians/New Zealanders needn't get up quite so early in the morning.

And Roger? Nope, I'm not watching the sports, nor did we go and see the Torch relay. Although we can find some non-sport viewings in the evenings, we are still trying to find a news channel were there is some world news. :-D

Well it seemed to me that people were complaining about the late start andthe price of it.

Also the night workers have alot to do with the games opening ceremony in getting those people home after it.

So I had my tuppence worth and get shot down, but I am in full agreement with the TV coverage now why should we only get loads of repeat programmes and news about the games, as there is other things going on it the workld as news does not stop for no one.

Don't worry too much Roger. Although you missed the discussion about the Royals looking tired and their age, a different point of view viz the timing is welcomed.

The discussion has been well balanced. Some people thought the whole event was wonderful, others were selective in their praise or condemnation.

Edit - and we might get some 'proper' world and local news once the business week starts on Monday. It's often a bit sparse at the weekends anyway.

Rambling Report 29 Jul 2012 14:38

I think that the late start was entirely down to the fact that you just wouldn't have seen half of the splendidness ( is that even a word lol) of the Industrial revolution part of the ceremony ( and which had to come early on or it would have just been ag labs waiting around a long time ;) ). If it had started earlier the effect of the lighting would have been lost..Gold rings against a dark sky, brilliant :-)

Re politeness, I think that "you lot" inevitably sounds rather impolite, unless perhaps said in person in a jocular tone...but even then it can sound 'accusatory', :-D

It was pure theatre best watched in darkness - just as it is as we go to watch any play or show. The spotlight was on the performers and the visual effects as it should be . Who wants to see the ' puppets strings' and spoil the magic ? Not me. It was a splendid production which I thoroughly enjoyed. :-)

A few points you have rised there Roger, but why are you being so sharp and bad tempered about it?

No one mentioned nightworkers and I fail to see what this has to do with anything with the matter I work all day and I struggled to keep my eyes open towards the end but wouldnt of missed it for the world.

No one has ever said on this thread no one has the right to exercise their point of view , however I am sure most people that post on this site "our ancestors fought for Freedom of Speech" they also taught us good manners maketh the man, so please bare that in mind Roger Sunny boy ;-)

Well I came to join in the thread and find a rude comment (free speech does not mean rude free speech Roger :-| and you certainly don't need to preach to me about freedom of speech thank you very much :-|

I loved the opening ceremony and watched it all the way through and have always been a huge fan of the olympics...probably watched more of it through the years than you have........I didn't know that transport was running later so wasn't complaining about it...well thank goodness i needn't have worried for folks' safety......and of course there are workers through the night ,always has been.......tell us something we didn't know!!!

If you want rude I'lll give you rude......and a well known GR phrase...."wind your neck in".....I've never said that on here before but now I'VE had my tuppence worth :-D
