AnninGlos Report 27 Feb 2012 12:16

I have received an e mail from my daughter in law informing me about a petition to be signed. I have signed it and wonder if anyone else would be interested in signing.

we have started a petition on the government e-petition website to make dyslexia a mandatory part of Initial Teacher Training. If the petition reaches 100,000 signatures by next Halloween there will be a debate about the issue.
We would be most grateful if you would sign our petition here: http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/20674 and further publicise it to your other members of staff, friends, family and so on. We would most of all appreciate it if you would put the petition on your website and publicly support us. We really need as many people as possible to sign this and the more people who talk about the petition and promote it, the more likely that outcome is. There are a few stipulations on who can and can't sign the petition:You MUST have a unique email address to sign the petition, one email address can sign the petition even if you share an email address with someone. You MUST be a UK citizen or resident, so UK citizens living abroad can still sign! There is NO minimum age limit, students and children are more than welcome to sign it. In fact since children are most affected by the state of teacher training we urge you to get them to sign! This is a cause very close to my heart, the British Dyslexia Association's heart, and I’m sure it is to yours too. I’m sure that I don’t need to tell you how important proper dyslexia friendly education is to you, or that a substantial 10% of the population is believed to be affected by dyslexia. We would really appreciate any help that you can give us in this campaign, and if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me!

No problem Stray, I think all teachers should at least have an awareness of Dyslexia and the other offshoots, Dysgraphica/Dysgraphia etc.

signing a petition for more training on the subject seems an excellent idea to me. PM me for the link.

Maybe your school Bracken so thank you for that information, however not all schools do, and in my family teachers have been quite ignorant of both dyslexia and dysgraphia.

Braken Report 27 Feb 2012 14:43

We all attend courses at the local Education Centre and we have internal courses on P.D.D's that's what they are for

If you feel let down by your school/staff get intouch with the L.A or offstead

If your child has already been statemented and you are unhappy about your child's education see your school SENCO

Puss copy it into your browser search. Or, do what I do sometimes, copy it into word, the press control and click mouse at the same time.

Bracken, this is for teacher training, i.e. before they become teachers. advance a wareness is not a bad thing, please don't try to sabotage the petition. I don't have a problem with my children's schools, I am 71, this, as I said came from my daughter in law who did have a problem, she didn't instigate it, the person who did, did have a problem. So nor all schools are as good as yours obviously is.
