We had a superb meal out at our favourite restaurant, and managed to enjoy ourselves.

At the end, after we had paid, I told the owner (who we know reasonably well) how bad the week had been, but how enjoyable the evening had been


He hugged me, and made OH promise to contact him and they will GIVE us a complimentary basket of food if and when I need cheering up!


How nice is that???



As to the other

............... I will be having a mastectomy on September 20. This was my decision. I told the surgeon that it was what I wanted, and she agreed that it was a good simple solution.

That means I will once again have matching sides, instead of being lop sided as I have been for the last 16 years.


Yes ............... it is my second go-round. But it is NOT a recurrence.

I had a mastectomy in 1995, with no further treatment. This is a different type of cancer, but it has been found very early, and I will probably not need any further treatment.


But, Ladies, please, PLEASE have your mammograms as and when they are due


Both of these cancers were found as a result of mammograms.

Neither would have been found by manual examination until far too late.

I am glad you had a nice meal out Sylvia and how nice of that chap to offer you a basket of goodies, make sure you take him up on it at some point and maybe he will do something to fund raise for Cancer Research too, like raffle a second basket of nice things.

I think you are being very brave and sensible to do what you are doing, and altho I will probably be on holiday on the day of your op, my late Dad's 101st birthday, I will send lots of positive thoughts for things to go to plan and for you to get well again very quickly.

Thanks for the reminder about mammograms, it's so important for us all to have the checkups offered.

The 20 th of September is tne day Imy eldest son was born soi I will not be able to forget that it will be a special day for you as well. You will be in my prayers and thoughts.

I was surpassed when I was told that after the age of 65 it is not ne essay to have a mammogram, but I would instead receive ingo about bowl Cancer.is this right?

The latest age to have mammograms is usually 70 here in Canada

But as I had a mastectomy in 1995, they give me a mammogram every year, and would not have let me stop until I was physically unable to get to the clinic.


Now, of course, they won't be able to give me any more :-D



We receive info on testing for bowel or colon cancer from about age 60 ................... usually a card to do the fecal occult test on. We seem to do it every 2 years, unless there is a reason to do it more often.


The smear test stops at age 70.
