Rambling Report 23 Jul 2011 19:22

I feel very sorry for her family...and the waste of any young life and I hope she is now at peace.

and yet...i can't help comparing the reaction here and elsewhere with the way many people feel about the 'repulsive drunk' they step over on a Saturday night or the wasted homeless drug addict...who may well have had a much worse start and no chance of escaping it and may have had great talents also. Or the mentally ill person that everyone avoids (!) who also perhaps 'can't help herself'.

This makes GR news...but no one has posted on the thousands of children dead or dying in Somalia who have never HAD a choice or a chance. But of course no one can put a name to them except their families. 720 000 children may die without immediate aid...

Death isn't the difficult bit, living is.

I can only echo what everyone has said.

It is a waste of a young life and talent, but she had had problems for some time.

My Daughter saw her perform at the V festival in 2009 as a guest of the group The Specials.
Daughter was right down at the front and said although Amy did not look as bad as she expected, she was finding it difficult to perform and was slurred when she sang and forgot the words to her songs.

We watched the edited highlights of V on TV where she appeared to be performing well on stage!

may she rest in peace

Muffy I couldn't have said it any better myself. I genuinely feel so much for her family, but the fact is, she was an addict, who had the means to get herself out of that mess. She didn't, and this is the inevitable result.

As Rose said, hardly a mention of those poor Somalians who are dying becuase of famine as we type. I say, hardly a mention of the 90 young people who died because of a deranged gunman yesterday. THAT is a waste of life.

LD it was me who RRd your post. I don't think a joke at this time is very appropriate.

"she was an addict, who had the means to get herself out of that mess. She didn't, and this is the inevitable result."

How patronising can you get.....!

If any of you have ever had an addict in your family, put your hand up, otherwise keep silent as you have not got a clue what addiction really means.

Please members all, a young woman has died her family will mourn her and it will be all the more tragic for them because of the circumstances.

The black sheep are always well loved.

No assumptions on your family TeresaW, your words not mine, eh?

By the way, are you putting your hand up?

TeresaW

TeresaW Report 23 Jul 2011 19:54

It is absolutely none of your business greenpen, whether or not I have or have had in the past an addict of any sort in my family, but just so you dont make more incorrect judgement, I have, Heroin, which culminated in his suicide.

Which is the reason why I said, I have genuine sympathy with Ms Winehouse's family.

I don't think it's relevant IGP, as to who wants to say whether they have personal experience in their own family... or that no one can understand how hard it is if you haven't experienced it yourself ( and unless one is the addict NO ONE can wholly know how difficult it is anyway surely ) ?

You don't have to have an addict in the family to know that having access to decent rehabilitation CAN ( but does not always by any means ) make a difference. Ms Winehouse could afford to pay for that help that others just cannot get.

I loved her voice and music and feel very sad for her family.

Yes thousands of people die every day and unfortunately will continue to do so,doesn't mean we cannot feel sorry that Amy has lost her life. In the 'crazy' kind of world she lived in, she isn't the first and sadly won't be the last.

I can only think that people who can't feel compassion for a 27 year old girl with so much talent who was unable to help herself can't have much experience of life themselves. They deserve a bit of pity too.

Harry Report 23 Jul 2011 20:30

Does all this say anything about the people around her? Manager; entourage and the like. Where and how did she get the ways and means of apparent destruction from? She seems to have had minders around her at most times.

Her parents obviously were powerless - and heartbreaking for them all through.

Happy days
