My Dad too was a Radio Ham.He built his radio and spent hours and hours in the garage with it tapping away on the morse tapping thing(Not sure what the name was).I found all Dads Ham Radio things a while back and he had hundreds of little cards sent to him from people all over the world who he had been in contact with.He kept a record book and he started it back in the 1940's. |

Jane, I find that really interesting about your Dad being a Radio Ham. How very very sad that he died of that AWFUL illness. My stepfather started building radio bits and bobs when he was 17 in 1936; When the war broke out in the Far East he went into the Airforce as a Radio Operator and was captured at the fall of Singapore and spent time in Changi jail and on the Burma Railroad, coming back to the UK in 1946. He and my mother married in 1947 when I was 4, my father having been killed in Dec 1942 just before I was born. My earliest memories are of 'Ted' G5RP!! in what was known as his shack, tapping out morsecode and building this and that. Ted belonged to the Harwell Radio Club and was its chairman. He had cards from all over the world too, the last one being from 'Peter Island' in the Antarctic (or Arctic!!) Ted had a desperate communication from the Falkland Islands when they were actually being invaded, which suddenly shut down mid-speak so to say! talk about spooky! He was interviewed by and was duly in the local paper! A proud moment! As you say Jane, after my mlother died in 1986, Ted, who was by that time very ill with cancer found Amateur Radio a lifeline, talking to friends world wide. After Ted died in 1987 I gave all the Radio Gear to the Harwell Club, including a HUGE mast in the garden, . My daughter and son have all the radio emblems and I kept the card from Peter Island, the rest I gave to the club including his record book and various other items which they were really pleased to have. |

I THINK rationing ended in about 1952, sweets were the last to go, again, I think. Apparently things were far more difficult on the food, heating and clothes front than during the war!! The cold winter of 1946/7 didn't help as afterwards there were awful floods. How did we all survive, would people these days?! I guess they'd have to. I don't remember a street party for the coronation, I remember being given a silver crown in a plastic box. My stepfather's father gave it to me, I had it for years but now I can't find it!! careless or what?! Yes I do remember the girl with the puppet sheila, and I remember the music for the news and the tower with radio waves coming out of it! |

Mandy ,just out of interest what did Tobys tumours look like under his tail?.I ask because Chester has some crusty looking things in the same place that irritate him ,and that is why I have that spray. The vet said he thinks it is allergies. They don't bleed. |

Oh poor Toby do hope he will be ok. They know how to charge the vets how do people manage who do not have much money. We do have insurance but not been able to use it yet because the vet said its got to be over £80 pound and Jaspers last treatment was to have teeth cleaned and it came under hygiene so could not claim. |
