It works for them as they are no longer concerned about "Public Opinion"
but proceed to implement policies which they think are in the 'public' interest.

No one stops to consult with the public unless it is with groups they know will support the Party Line

Someone said today that for most politicians their work in politics is an employment. They work at a job which pays them an excellent salary. These employees are anxious to earn enough to keep their families in a lifestyle to which we might all aspire.

The fact they make decisions which influence the livelihood, prosperity, health and well being of millions of people is just part of the job. What a weird way of looking at it.

Allan Report 17 Feb 2010 07:17

AuntySherlock

Weird indeed.

If politicians are merely employees we should have the right to sack them at any time if they do not perform to expectations, not wait for three or four years for the privilege.

I think I need to look through this when I'm not so knackered! Not too sure what 'box' this analysis shoves me into. I like to think of myself as an ‘assertive Gandhi’, Is that a contradiction in terms!

Your political compass
Economic Left/Right: -0.88
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.87

There is no button for 'don’t give a sh#t' lol

As a post grad I studied politics (only a module as part of another programme, so I’m no expert!) and couldn’t get my head around the ‘Thatcher’ years. The ‘ breaking’ of the unions along with the breaking of ‘communities’ put me off the ‘Tory’ vote good and proper!!!

So when I wake up later this morning, I’m going to check that I’m not a controlling megalomaniac with a black tash and jack boots...............if I am, I’m doing it again!!!

Phew!!

Just re read and see that I can leave my boots in the wardrobe ...sorry Allan!

I am a Gandhi sort of person, not that my husband would agree lol I wonder if thats 'learned' behaviour on my part!

Whatever, I'm so pleased I can shave again!!!! Sorry Mrs Thatcher, tea and biscuits will have to wait 'till hell freezes over'!

Hi Ginny, and welcome. Glad you sorted yourself out. You would have some explaining to do if you didn't fall into the correct category (and I have no confounded idea which one is correct).

The tree hugging, plastic bottle saving, water misering, plastic shopping bag banning, ecoists are probably all asleep. I can never work out what time it is over there in snowboarding country. Have just managed to sort out the Pommy times.

I need a row of clocks across my wall so I don't interrupt their beauty sleep. Heaven knows they need as much as possible to improve their collective dispositions.

If you need something constructive to do while you are pondering the excitement on this thread go google Fish Karma and listen to his dulcet tones. I'll have a strong brown paper bag ready for you when you return.

Gee Report 17 Feb 2010 09:31

Aunty....

With a name like Fish Karma I was wondering whether or not to look and see.

Sounds to me like he doesnt know if he's Sid Vicious or Bob Dylan!

Any man who writes a song 'Girl you gotta love your man' goes into the 'Thatcher' bracket of would be friendships!

Never heard of him before so Ive learned something new today.

Aunty, I didnt realise you were in Oz, or is that NZ?

Time here in the UK 9.30am so that must mean get your butt sorted and get some money earned!

Not NZ, shudder, never could stand sheep!!

I'm from Oz. It is at this precise moment 2037 hours, or in your talk 8 .37 pm. I am falling asleep over the computer, a normal state of affairs at this hour of the evening. As I need to do some searching I think I might go take a nanna nap and come back later.
Heavens only knows why I am so tired. I've only been up since 0500 hrs this am and that's quite appropriate for a sprightly approaching elderly lady.

Edit.... Wahhhhh, that's what happens when you are old and try a nanna nap. Watched some TV from about 8.30 pm and woke up at 5.30 am. Oh well must have needed the sleep. What a waste of an evening.

Hi again Ginny, just read back and noted your previous post and the fact that you have done the quiz/questionnaire/survey. That is why I am editing this post. This will make no sense which is a really good thing.

I'm not silly. I'm a good girl. I haven't deleted it.

I'm hoping there are people who have done the Political Compass quiz, and maybe even read some of this thread, and just not felt moved to add. ;)

It really is an illuminating exercise!

Gee

Gee Report 18 Feb 2010 18:50

Oh JC, ever the optimist!

Maybe people think this is some sort of covert CIA/MI5 exercise to find out who's voting for who and are too afraid to add their results!

If that’s the case then they really need to ‘bin’ their loyalty cards from all the stores they shop in, wear a ‘hoody’ to avoid all the CCTV cameras and stop filling in census/tax returns!

If it wasn’t for the efforts, sacrifice and achievement of Mrs Pankhurst, I don’t think I would bother voting at all this year

by the way.....'n'

AuntySherlock Report 18 Feb 2010 20:11

Oooh ,Ginny does that 'n' mean nudge (in a whisper)??

What a good idea. There may be a couple on the boards who have not yet seen the light and become members of the Grid Quadrant party. I've actually mentioned it to a few aquaintances and they are rushing off to check their political leanings.

Okay, I am not particularly interested in politics but I had a reluctant go.

Looks like I am a cross between Nelson Mandela and Pope Benedict! as I hovered 'twixt green and red!

Now, none of you will speak to me ever again. sob.

Very interesting website Janey, little bit pro socialism in the questioning. and a little bit condescending to Hayley on your first posting I thought.

Well, Cynthia ... I guess that means you're a bit of an authoritarian, but at least you aren't a right-winger! (sitting on the left-right line, to the left of the up-down line, is it? The numbers, woman, the numbers!)

So which will it be for you -- Greens (green square) or BNP (red square)??

Bwahahaha.
