Good evening/morning.

What funny weather today. It started sunny, became cloudy, a couple of claps of thunder and a few drops of rain. The day didn't know what it wanted to do.

I planned on doing h*******k today and I did. I actually don't mind giving the house a good clean. We have a small house so it's not a big job. It was made easier by having no-one in the house. I read all afternoon and OH is cooking tea so all is well:-))

I received a list of questions from the media dept. of the University. Only 3 questions and they can be answered easily. I told the publicity officer that I was feeling a little nervous but she was very reassuring. It's strange because I have no trouble speaking to a room full of people especially about something I'm passionate about but a little interview is giving me tummy flutters.

You will be fine, just look at the interviewer and talk to him, one to one, forget the surroundings.

After the glorious day we had yesterday, it is dull this morning. As it should be for late September I suppose.

I have had a lazy start to the day, snoozing and listening to the radio.OH has gone off for his over 50's gym, swim and sauna session,or ladies in baggy lycra as he calls it. There are so many things I should be doing here, but blow it! I am going to spend the morning pampering myself. I need to sort my legs out for a start or I will be giving Allan a run for his money. I know that really these things should be done on an evening, but I am too tired by then.

You should be pampering yourself, Linda. We don't want you joining the "hairy leg brigade". I find when life is a bit disordered outside the home I like to have everything nice and calm inside. I'm sure a psychiatrist would have something to say about that. I'm sure the jam and chutney making is bringing some normality into your life at the moment. Good advice about the interview. The media dept. lady said I won't have any problems because I'm talking about a subject I know well - better than the interviewer in fact.

Well I am now all pampered. I filled the bath with lots of bubbles (not chutney, strange man that Tec) and took it from there.
Actually I missed OH because I had to rub the moisturiser into my own back. I normally ask him to do that, although he usually looks at me as if I have an ulterior motive and usually he is right lol.

I need to sort out some of mums finances now. I have had enduring power of attorney for four years now. The older generation are strange because although there were lots of bonds and accounts in her name to avoid paying tax, dad handled all financial matters. She didn't even know how to write a check. She had a bank book for a building society and would withdraw her housekeeping money each week.

When dad became really ill, it coincided with the issue of chip and pin cards, I taught her how to use it to pay for her groceries and she would ask for £50 cash back. She was very proud of herself, but would never use the "hole in the wall" machines to withdraw cash. Once he died,she just had no idea how to handle the accounts,so I applied for the power of attorney on the grounds of her frailty. It is a good job really because with the way she is now, I don't know what would happen if i didn't have it.

It's very important to have a power of attorney. We sorted that out with mum after dad died. We left it too late with dad although I have an idea he wouldn't have allowed it. He was very private about money matters. When we had sorted mum's will and power of attorney OH and I saw the solicitor and sorted ours too. We already had a will but it needed to be updated.

How have I suddenly become MISS Berona? What did I do to earn the Miss title? It's been a long time since I was a Miss although I do seem to miss a lot these days. I quite often miss the point too!

Tec, you must have been reading my mind. I was thinking that if I made your nightcap very long, you could put it on your head, then wrap it around your neck - but if I put a bobble on it, perhaps it should not be a brown one or you might look like you have three eyes - two in your head and one in your neck! Maybe I should make the scarf separate and just have your cap loose enough for the bobble to hang down your back! Gives a whole new meaning to having eyes in the back of your head, doesn't it? Anyway, what do you think? I can make it any way you like - so it's your choice! Oh, and if I make it separate, do you want it to match your cap, or would you like it multi-coloured like Allans' beanie?

Allan, I've made the pom pom using the bright yellow wool that the 'halo' part of your beanie is made out of. I have sewn the pom pom over the little hole in the crown so your head won't get sunburnt and it looks like a light has been switched on. It's really lovely...I'm very proud of it.

Berona, I don't remember how you became "Miss Berona", but I think the maid with the hairy legs reffered to you in that way. Actually, I think it's rather sweet. Somehow it carries great dignity - remember the great Hollywood stars were always given the title, Miss Ava Gardner, Miss Joan Crawford, even Miss Marilyn Monroe. However sweet I may think it sounds, if you prefer to be the Berona that we know and love, then so be it. I shall have a word with the maid forthwith, and remove his priviledges.

As for the nightcap, it think a long one would be brilliant, then I can swish it around my neck on cold draughty nights. The bobble would be fine in brown, and doesn't matter if it looks like a third eye down my back. You need eyes in the back of your head in this house I can tell you.

You are obviuosly using the wrong web browser Tec. If you use Mozilla, it comes with a real time spell checker,so as you type all the daft mistakes get underlined in red.

My typing looks sooo colourful, but I correct it before I post. I can spell honestly, it is just that my fingers are not connected to my brain

Don't be concerned about that radio interview, I've done two on BBC Radio Wales - just chatted to the guy asking the questions, and simply forgot anyone was listening. They will make it easy for you.

It's so frustrating - I used to be the one who everybody asked, how do you spell this or that?
Virtually re-wrote my daughter's thesis - now I post, look at the spelling, and am aghast at the mistakes - the whole world must think dense,
well I am, but they don't need to know.

Good morning, Tec - I am indeed bright-eyed and bushy tailed. I don't think the spelling is a problem - I think it's probably the typing. I'm often amazed at the mistakes I make - and correct - as I've always been a good speller. Now maths - that's another thing altogether:-)

I am very impressed by your knitting Berona. My mum insisted that we learnt when we were young, but I only managed a few misshapen things. I was much the same with dressmaking. My sister on the other hand could just throw a few bits of material together and produce magnificent garments

It is no good, I am shattered, so am going to go to bed early.

Tec, don't worry about the spelling. I have the same problem, my brain works in a higher gear than my fingers. I also am very dyslexic when it comes to typing words with ea in them. I am forever getting the two letters transposed.

Linda, if Cleopatra could bathe is asses' milk surely a chutney bath would be as equally enjoyable?

Sue, Berona, yes 'twas me that that called Berona Miss for the dignified manner in which she conducts herself on this and other threads. Berona has not once called any one a vagabond or other choice expressions which spring to mind

Golly gosh, have just ploughed through two days worth of Aussie threads.

Front page news in our paper this morning: Aussies Honour our pioneer of the skies. Jean Batten is being honoured on the side of an Australian Plane. The aviation reporter (didn't even know we had one) has done a nice little article on it.

Allan: Whanau means : be born; family (in a broad sense) is pronounced far now.
In my case I would certainly be the broad bit.

Linda: Enduring Power Attorney is definitely a godsend we had it for my parents and we have set it up for our daughters with us. Glad that your mother is in with others, a single room is okay but without windows just does not bear thinking about. All the rooms in our hospitals have windows even if all you can see is the edge outside - there is at least the sense of daylight.

Tec: Carolee tells me you have a llama called Montgomery - my Scottish ancestors are Montgomerys. No wonder I feel quite at home with llamas, alpacas and sheep. My OH is not keen on sheep, he grew up on a sheep farm - lived in a barn for years until they got a house - he hated lambing and used to have to help out with it before school. He actually has a fear of the lanolin in the wool from his experiences.
