Please don't apologise Maria we have all been there!!!
In November 2007 I went to the doctors and as usual she wanted to blame it on me being overweight. She didn't weigh me there and then but suggested I might like to see the practice nurse for some helpfull advice (Sorry but we all know HOW we should eat healthily!!!)
It took me 4 months of excuses before I went to the nurse who told me the last time I was weighed in the surgery was 1993 when I was pregnant!!!! ANYWAY to my horror I was about 5 stone heavier than I had thought which was quite a shock!!! But once I got into the swing of it going back and getting weighed by the nurse every 2 weeks, I started to loose weight for the first time since the early 80's!!!! Most times she weighed me I lost about 2lb in 2 weeks but I never gained anything btween march and december then today I found out i put on 6 lbs over xmas!!!!
So have put my mind to it and am on my way again hopefully!!!!

Have you got much you want to loose??? It can seem like a mammoth task whatever it is don't you think!!
Good Luck anyway, I expect by now you are on the Wii fit as we speak!!!!!!

Hi, Tina and Marie,If I think about the many stones I need to lose I wouldnt be motivated at all, so I am looking for the first stone , then onwards, I refuse to get upset anymore I have been there and done that time and time again....I think the guilt trip does more harm than good, so positive thoughts please ladies. if we err at all just say so then forget it,we will no doubt be helped by the input we give on another....Remember....

Bigger snacks mean Bigger slacks.......

Dieting is not a piece of cake!!!!!!!!!!!!

What else do they say,

A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips!!!!

I think we should all remember that we did not become overweight overnight, for me it has crept on over many years so I have accepted that I am not going to loose it overnight, I'm with you Jean I only dare take a stone at a time otherwise I would just give up, I am for now feeling very positive but that feeling could last a short time!!!!
Lets keep those positive vibes going!!!!!

Hi All

I put on 3lb over Christmas. My instructor put on 5 so didn't feel too bad :-)

I was watching Paul McKenna last night " I can make you thin"

One main thing of his is eat consciously . Chew food lots, taste the food, don't read or watch tv whilst you are eating. Put your knife & fork down after every mouthful. Stop eating when you feel full.

Tina thanks for your reply last night - sorry I didn't come back on, I wasn't on my Wii Fit I'm afraid I was on the sofa! Never mind.

I am NOW going to go on my Wii Fit! and (when it's stopped laughing at me) it will tell me how long it's been since we last got together (it counts in days but it might be easier to round it up to the nearest month) & how much I've put on since. Oh dear.

Onwards & upwards as they say, though hopefully the weight will be downwards by February! Four stone at least to shift but will take it 1 at a time I think, lol.

Maria xx

Hi Penny,

I didn't see it last night but what you've said about it makes perfect sense, definitely worth remembering.

PS I think only 3lbs over Christmas is pretty good, don't you?

Hi Penny, Maria, Tina and everyone else

Do you mind if I join you? I too have a lot to lose - and I had made a start after summer and lost 16lb up to mid November, but then it all went pear shaped (been there before!!) and I have put 7lb back on again.

I am going to reintroduce myself to my Wii Fit tomorrow morning - it probably won't recognise me and may even start laughing when I climb on but I'll have a go anyway.

So fingers crossed - 1 stone at a time, and good luck to you all

Hi Tina-j, welcome :o) ... 16lbs last year was brilliant, and you can make up the bit you've put back on, just start again and know that you've done it before you can do it again. I'm sure you'll find support on here - you're not on your own :o).

Well my Wii Fit was very kind to me just now. It didn't laugh TOO loudly. It had lost track of how long it's been since I was on, it usually tells you how many days, but I've checked my last weigh in and it was 4th November, and I've only put 4lbs on since then. Very surprised I genuinely thought it would be more like 8 or 9.

I'm DETERMINED to keep up with it - the thing is once I'm doing it I really do enjoy it, it's just getting started back on it once you've had a bit of a break.

I'm feeling a lot more positive now - I'm going to start taking sea kelp tablets again because I could tell that was definitely giving my metabolism a boost before Christmas, will stock up on the grapefruit juice, and I'm going to get back to the nurse too, she's very supportive and her scales don't tell porkies so there's no escape!

Keep at it everyone

Well done Maria - getting started is always hard. I know what you mean about enjoying it - me and the children had some great times with it last year. I will definitely give it a go tomorrow morning after I have cleared everyone else out of the house.

You have done really well only putting 4lb on in 2 months - keep up the good work!

Hi There, this is Tina here, plain Tina!!!!
Maria it is a good idea to have the support of the nurse for weigh ins, as you say the scales do not tell porkies then do they!!
Hands up how many people at home have stood on one leg and leant over to the right in a bid to get the scales to read a bit lighter!!!
Oh my word I am blinded by all of those hands up!!!!!

Another thing I ALWAYS do when I get weighed by the nurse is take my glasses off!!! WHY------I mean if I was only overweight by those few grams my glasses weigh I wouldn't be going to the nurse in the first place would I !!!
I am on day 2 of my serious healthy eating plan since the new year and must admit to eating a small piece of chocolate yesterday, but appart from that it has been ok!!
Hope you are all doing ok with the wii fit, I haven't got wii fit but could play on the kids wii tennis game-without sitting down as I always have before!!! Do you think that counts!!!

Is anyone coming to the end of their first week yet? Has anyone lost any weight? Keep us posted!!

Mind if I join you all? I've lost 3 pounds so far - only another 2.5 stone to go!! Got a big family event coming up at easter and again in august so need to lose the weight so I don't look like the "fat chuffa" at the end in the photos! Would also be great to buy a great outfit for the weddings that isn't bought to hide parts of me! I hate looking at myself in photos anyway but don't want to look awful in these ones coming up at the family celebrations. My weight has crept on since I've been married (I blame my hubby's fantastic cooking - he say it's my portion size - he's right!). I have a target date to aim for now, just need to keep going ....

Evening everyone, Welcome Louise & Bev

Been on my Wii Fit again tonight, hoping I will lose at least 1lb by next Wednesday, although I've succummed to a glass of wine (or 2) tonight I'm afraid.

Anyway, just thought I'd have a moan about Jeans. Tried some on before Christmas size 20, they were too tight, so for the 1st time ever I bought a 22. They're miles too big now, although I've lost NO weight. So I bought a 20, and also an 18 in the sale thinking I'd slim into them. The size 20's were baggy on me today, to the extent that when I arrived home from the school run this afternoon I only just managed to make it through the back door before they completely fell down by my ankles. The kids could have been traumatized so please don't anyone report me to Ofsted. But guess what, the 18's still won't fasten - or at least not without making me look like I've got a lifebelt on under my jumper.

Any tips? Anyone know where you can get size 19's or at least a sturdy and generous belt?

Broggy

I had similar problem with trousers when I had lost weight (started at size 20) Size 16 were too big - I was going out for a big meal & wanted to wear some tightish trousers so I knew when to stop but ...I didn't have any. Also size 14 were too tight!!

Maria

Maria Report 8 Jan 2009 22:03

Penny, how annoying, isn't it?

PS - I'd love to be getting into a size 16, but It's all relative isn't it.

I forgot to say earlier, top tip for any ladies with a wii fit (or indeed men)

If you get on the rhythm boxing and imagine that the punchbag is your extremely troublesome ex, you can work up quite a sweat and no doubt burn off a few extra calories. And even if you don't lose any poundage, you feel better for standing up for yourself, lol ;o) Obviously not advocating any violence, just mental strength against injustice etc.
