yes i agree, i found that some of the younger staff were not tolerant enough, and often couldnt understand why the residents hid things and accused them of stealing their pension books etc....it's all part of the illness...

teesdale

teesdale Report 9 Nov 2008 12:29

Hi everyone ,this brings back memories with Mum and her Dementia.LWD your mum sounds just the same as mine was to start .Eating was a a big worry as she said she had had a meal and she hadn't.She would live on chocky bickies.
Has your Mum been allocated Geriatric Psychiactric Nurse to assess her?It does sound as though you are near her .I was 6 hours away and had to rely on her friends and neighbours to keep checking on her.But eventually that becomes too much to ask.
It is such a hard thing to cope with ,but I have to say mum used to say and do the most outrageous things that we had to laugh. Lots of tears too as it becomes so clear that your mum now is not mum as you knew.
If you keep your thread going here at least you have lots of people to talk to.
I could write a book with all my Mums antics whilst having Dementia!!!!!

When it was clear that mum wasn't eating properly ,we had Wiltshire Farm Foods delivered and, someone from SS came every lunchtime and micro waved her meal, and then made up a plate ao sandwiches for her tea. That worked for a while ,then mum refused to let them in!!
