Sometimes, one child is not registered. Our ancestors made mistakes; sometimes they baptised some children and 'forgot' to get one done.

My great great grandparents had a child who died aged just a few weeks. His mother died before him. His death was registered but not his birth.

I wish you good luck; I have also lain awake at night wondering about baptisms and marriages! Better than worrying about bills and present family problems.

Thankyou..and thankyou for sharing your story with me...
I am not brilliant at all this...and I havent got the biggest tree.,But what I have on my tree is special to me ...not just to gather names..But I am so interested...
I dont have a family that I can ask questions about the past anymore..
Thankyou very much

Dear Christine

Not having a big tree doesn't matter. It's all the more fun making it grow!

Sadly, I don't have anyone left to ask, either.

I started to reseach mine in 1989 when my mother was still alive. She died in 1994 and I'd love her to see the family tree that I have gathered together - she'd have been so interested - and I could ask some of those questions I wish I'd asked when I had the chance!

Hi Christine
Sorry for not coming back on after I encouraged you to put details on last evening - had to go to bed with a migraine !
It seems as though there may not be a BIRTH registration for Isabella BUT is there a BAPTISM ? Do you know if the other children were baptised? Was there a particular church in the area that the children were baptised?

Can you account for all Isabella's siblings?
Do you know what happened to any 'sisters'?

I ask because I have known a child to be registered with a particular forename and be known through life ( and at baptism) by something quite different.
A check of baptisms would be useful, to see if
a) Is Isabella listed in the baptism register
b) Could any of her siblings infact be Isabella?

Hi Christine ,
like you i have a relative( my grandmother )
that i cant find a birth for .. only on the census saying that
she was born in 1877 i have her marriage cert and her death cert .
and they both imply that she was born in 1877 ..
But i have all of her brothers and sisters births ...
she must have been forgotten ..lol

The Agnes Leah b 1898 is actually Emma Agnes Leah, Elizabeth 1909 is Rhoda Elizabeth, Violet 1900 is Violet Lavinia, so it looks like a family fond of middle names, perhaps Isabella had another name. I haven't found a birth for George Pearson Baldam in 1902.

She wasn't the second youngest if Charles Balldam b 1913 mmn Mitchinson is another brother.

I've just taken another look at the Baldam births, and I wondered the same thing about all the other names. I wondered whether George Pearson was actually George William or George William S.

Madmeg Report 17 Nov 2009 17:54

Christine there are a few people on Ancestry with Baldams in their tree - parents George and Catherine, and Emma Agnes Leah and Violet. One such person appears to be a George Stubbings, descended from Emma Agnes Leah. Does his name mean anything to you?

If you don't have Ancestry, I can contact him for you.

Hello and thankyou for your help,
I have wondered and wondered all day..
There are quite a few Baldams ..but not in my line.
I have contacted someone on here and they were very helpful..but did not know of Isabella..
I was over the moon to see the Stubbings name on ancestry and did write to them but heard nothing back...
There was an Aunt Aggie..
Thankyou again
Christine
Oh There seem to be qiute a few George Baldams

Perhaps George Stubbings has cancelled his Ancestry sub. You cant reply to e mails unless you are a current member

Jillian

Definitely look on family search. You won't be able to order parish records without a batch number anyway.

Christine's situation is that other births in the family were all registered, so it is a bit odd that one wasn't. Does the same apply to your James Rothe?

Jillian,

So did you look on family search?

I don't think you should add your family to Christine's thread, it will only confuse things. Start your own.

You know, I wonder if the Nov 1912 birthdate you have is correct?

The Charles here:

Births Sep 1913
Balddam Charles Mitchinson Sedgefield 10a 404

was born 20 Jul 1913.

He'd be VERY premature if Isabella were born in Nov. 1912. This makes me think she was born before that.

Christine,
I was wondering about the date of birth. How do you know that she was born in November 1912? Do you have the marriage certs? What was her age on these? I am just wondering whether she was born earlier than this.

+*+blossom In Essex+*+ Report 18 Nov 2009 11:29

Been having a little poke around...

Can't find any Isabellas at all for that area in 1912, so tried all births with mother's maiden name of Mitchinson for 1912. The only one for the right district is this one:

Stewart Elizabeth Mitchinson Sedgefield 10a 376 Scan available - click to view

which doesn't really help at it is outside the census range. What I'm thinking is...OK her first name may not have been Isabella, but perhaps her surname wasn't Baldam at the ime of registration for some reason. Just a thought...
