Hi Zoe Thanks very much for info on William Albert Ball. When you say put a checking point on fathers name do you mean order a certificate, and the family records office in London will only send it to me if the father is Harry Ball? Do you know if they can also just send it to me if dob is 15 March, 1899? Do you know if they charge for these look ups if they do not send you the birth certificate? Thanks Sandra |

Zoe, Zoe, Zoe, Thanks for that wealth of information. Just a few queries that you may be able to answer please. (I know I'm a pest)!!! 1) In 1871 census, the address is 1 Clarendon Cottages........is there a road name? 2)Frederick Snr. ......b1834 on 1881census, but 1844 on 1871census? Could this be your typing error or incorrectly transcribed? 3)In 1891 census, Caroline b.1857, on 1881 b. 1839 (more likely) 4)Where was Edward F in 1881 census? What do you think? Ken PS Just had a thought........item 3, perhaps Frederick married a younger Caroline. Did the first one die? |

Susan Well I have looked and looked with no joy! Well for the life of me I don't know where they have gone and your positive the ones in Camberwell are not yours I suppose due to all of the children..I don't know what to suggest. Other than search through all of Barnet to see if you can find them..Or even goto a Family History centre they should have name indexes at least you could look them up that way Sorry Zoe |

Hi, can you please help me. I am struggling to find the birth details of my grandfather William George Hanson. I have his marriage certificate from 1908 which says he was 25, in the Royal Field Artillery,he was married in Sheffield to Sarah taylor. His father Thomas Hanson was deceased at that time. He originally came from Birmingham, on the census for 1901 I found a William Hanson, age 19, mother Annie was head of household which would probably fit (RG13 2870 166 12 68) When I looked on bmd there was only a william hanson born in 1885. How can I find out the details of his birth certificate to order one to check if it is the right William Hanson. Thanks, Jane |

Hi Zoe I think this one needs a few certs to sort out but here goes 1861 RG9/1244 dist Mitford ED 5 Folio 54 Page 13 Household 72 George Elmer Head Elizabeth Elmer Wife Elizabeth Elmer Daur George Elmer Son Martha Elmer Daur William Elmer Son >>>>Thorbon Elmer Son abt 1851 Dunham Norfolk I have all the birth death and marriage refs for all except Thorbon. His birth ref is under the name Thorbon then he just disappears,no census, marriage or death. The children all use the middle name Thorbon at some point and the family splits some stay in Norfolk some go to Lancs and some to Lincolnshire, checked through to 1901 The birth ref is Jun 1851 Mitford district vol 13 pg 259. Then 61 census as above, and 71 blank. Then a death ref in 1879 for Joseph Thorbon Elmer age 28 which fits,Dec 1879 Lincoln vol 7a pg 338. I just can't decide if the Joseph is an addition to his name (after his grandfather) or if he is aanother Elmer child. Your thoughts please. At the moment the cert situation means he has to wait a while. Thanks Glen |

Hi again Zoe In 1868 Elizabeth (wife) died and all the kids vanish,William goes round the uncles/aunts and grandparents through to his death in 1900,the rest all re-appepear in the 81 census onwards. It's just Thorbon who is the mystery (and where the rest went in 71 is not so vital) George (head) ihave found right through to his death in Lincoln many years later. Glen |

Thanks Zoe for your help with the Hansons. It was distant relatives that thought he was from Birmingham so perhaps he was from elsewhere. He certainly moved around a lot with the army as his children were born in Sheffield, Salisbury , Edinburgh and Exeter. Jane |
