Hi I've got this outgoing passenger list 19 June 1920 to Canada for a Ellen McRobert travelling with I think two children
Has any one got the means to find out who she was travelling with only she had 5 children and I think they all emigrated also her husband Charles I know he went over 1913 and 1920 on his own? and he came back 1930 to Scotland for a visit to 214 Thistle St Glasgow

Thank you

yes that is the 1913 record I'm going off
The Charles in 1821 is the son it looks as though they travelled alone
Their children were James 1892, William 1894, Ellen 1898 Janet 1900 and Charles

That census matches other than Nelly Adolphus her name was Ellen Muir McRobert nee McAlpine, they had a daughter Ellen (Nellie) McRobert born 1898?

greyghost

greyghost Report 6 Aug 2019 19:01

Nelly would be a "pet" name for Ellen, same as with the daughter.

Looking again at the original of that 1921 census. Nellie's middle name could very well be McAlpine. The handwriting is very poor.

The Ocean Arrivals document you refer to -

View Canada, Ocean Arrivals (Form 30A), 1919-1924

Gender: Male
Estimated birth year: abt 1868
Birth Place: Dumfriesshire Scotland

do you have the details from the original image? Amongst other things it says his nearest relative in country from where he came is
-
James McRobert Son of 171 Waddell Street, Glasgow

Charles Mcrobert
in the 1901 Scotland Census
Name: Charles Mcrobert

Estimated birth year: abt 1869
Relationship: Head
Spouse's name : Helen M Mcrobert
Gender: Male
Where born: trieggles, Kirkcudbrightshire
Registration Number: 644/11
Registration district: Hutchesontown

A tree on Ancestry says James was born 13 Oct 1892, Glasgow.

However, it says he died in Glasgow, and presumably didn't go to Canada.

NameJames McRobert

With Mrs Margaret McRobert.

He's also there in 1950, with Mrs Margret McL, and Walter McRobert.

1919, at 171 Waddell Street, Gorbals.
1925 & 1926, 171 Waddell Street, with Mrs Margaret McRobert.
1929 and later, at 214 Thistle Street South, with Margaret.

However -
It says he died 27 Oct 1950, but doesn't offer proof.
I think this is the death they mean - and the age doesn't fit, not to mention spelling:

MCROBERTS
JAMES
82
1950
644/10 286
Milton

So, if James went to Canada, it must have been after 1930.
EDIT:
No, he didn't emigrate - see later posts.
