Thank you Maddie & Chris Ho for your info. We do have most of the information on James Kibble and children, however you did confirm what we had found. Our main investigations now is information on Mary Ferrier, her Father William and her mother ? We have been unable to find anything on them. We do know husband James is buried in St Andrews Epis. Church Glasgow, however no info on Mary. We do know there is a family connection with a John Ferrier & Mary Cochoran and that William Ferrier (Mary's father) was a Merchant from Grenada. We think Mary may have died between 1824-1842. We have been unable to find anything on them. P

(widower on his Death Cert., then what looks to be Property Sale, 1857, perhaps mistake, should have been Mr. instead of Mrs.)

There was an article I posted on one of the threads- not sure which one as there are a few re this family, but it stated that William was born 1751. Perhaps you can link the correct line through the other info given in the article (namely Mary Ferrier born 1764 that married Walter Ure in 1787 Glasgow):
The article concerns the estate of Dr Peter Cochrane of Clippens
Paisley Herald and Renfrewshire Advertiser - Saturday 02 May 1863
...if Perter Cochrane the younger is found to have been a domiciled Scotchman at his death in 1835 his next of kin by the Scotch law are the descendants of his father's Aunt, Mary Cochrane who was married to her cousin, John Ferrier in 1744.
...From evidence in our informants possession these descendants would appear to embrace the present Ferrier family, also the descendants of William Ferrier, who was born in 1751 and said to have emigrated to Grenada, and the descendants of Mary Ferrier born 1764 and who was married to Mr Walter Ure of Glasgow.... -------------------------------------
Marriage: Name John Ferrier Spouse's Name Mary Cochran Event Date 21 Jan 1744 Event Place Kilbarchan,Renfrew,Scotland
There were several children- some died young and names were repeated. These are the Ferrier children mentioned in the article:
Name William Farrier Gender Male Christening Date 04 Mar 1751 Christening Place , ABBEY (PAISLEY), RENFREW, SCOTLAND Birth Date 23 Feb 1751 Father's Name John Farrier Mother's Name Mary Cochran
Name Mary Ferrior Gender Female Christening Date 19 Jul 1764 Christening Place , ABBEY (PAISLEY), RENFREW, SCOTLAND Birth Date 10 Jul 1764 Father's Name John Ferrior Mother's Name Mary Cochron ----------------------------------------------
Other articles also make reference to other children- John (the eldest son, a warper from Kilbarchen and later Paisley, who married twice without issue), and Hugh (the second son, who married Janet McTaggart, and had son William Ferrier)

During the trials reported in the paper this was a statement recorded about William (born 1851), the son of John Ferrier and Mary Cochran:
Paisley Herald and Renfrewshire Advertiser - Saturday 05 July 1862
...and William brought home with him a young woman, who was said to be his daughter, and who married a man of the name of Kibble in Paisley. I never heard from William Ferrier myself that she was his daughter, but common report said so, I have seen her but not often. When William left again for the West Indies he left her behind him for her education either in Paisley or Glasgow.
...I depone as follows:- The said reputed daughter of William Ferrier was a woman of colour, but it was commonly reported that he acknowledged her as his daughter, educated her, and left her his fortune, but whether he was married to her mother or not I have never heard anything about it. Re interrogated for the persuer, I depone that it is not of my own knowledge that I speak of Mrs Kibble as a woman of colour.
...I knew a William Ferrier who went to the West Indies; he was old John Ferrier's son and a mason to trade. Mary Cochran ws his mother. There was a coloured female came over to this country who was said to be a daughter of the last mentioned William Ferrier. I was in school with her; she was said to be the natural daughter of William Ferrier. -------------------------------------------------------------------
So from this, it sounds as if Mary Ferrier (husband of James Kibble) was not born in Scotland, but came (possibly from Grenada), to Scotland with her father to be educated.
There are possibly more articles with information. Most agree that John Ferrier and Mary Cochran had sons John, Hugh, Alexander and William, and a daughter Mary. Both William and Alexander went abroad. -------------------------------------
Scots in the West Indies, 1707-1857, Volume 2 FERRIER William, a mason in Grenada 1805...the in Glasgow 1810.

GAFK, As you know, there are a number of threads relating to different branches of this family. I posted on your other thread earlier.
Your post here at 8.22 confirms that James Kibble who died in 1858 aged 80yr, was the son of Thomas Kibble and Sarah Martin.
Nicola's original thread actually started with James's sister.
She was Isabella Kibble b 1767 who married widower, James Hervie in Paisley 1798 They died in Manchester in 1832 and 1841 respectively.
I have a vague memory that at least 2 of the children born this particular James Hervie married back into the Kibble family.
Son James Hervie from his 1st marriage with Jean Winning married Elizabeth Kibble daughter of James Kibble. ( therefore there was no biological link between husband/wife))
Daughter Sarah Hervie from his 2nd marriage with Isabella Kibble was the girl who married James Kibble (jnr). This would make them 1st cousins

I think this could be a reference to William's death (on Ancestry). As we know from the newspaper reports above, he did have a brother Alexander that also went abroad.
