Hi I have finally traced a relative Mary Clewyn to Fletcher Street Toxteth 1841 census there are a lot of people living in the house her birth place and that of others at this address is Ireland would I be right to think there is Romany connection as I am not sure if Romanies were included in the census this lady later married Edward Smith lived in Leicestershire and all the children have Romany names I have been tracing this lady for a long time and although I have recent information and children etc This is furthest back I have managed How do I know who at this address are her parents if any?
Thanks

Is the name Mary Clewyn on the birth certificates for the children?

Who did Mary list as her father on her marriage certificate?

Is Mary's place of birth given as Ireland in later census?

Not in later census name is Clewing on eldest child's birth certificate which I have but made with a mark
Do not have marriage certificate
Born in Boston on one census in later married life as Smith but Ireland on others in her married name Smith
Been a problem to trace
On other posts you will see one daughter Augustina Smith the children have a family name third name of Longmead or sometimes spelled Longmate which I believe means long meadow
Thanks

I'm still not seeing how you've connected the Mary Clewyn from the 1841 census to this Mary?

Because we cannot find her prior to her marriage as Mary Clewing and we know there is a connection with Ireland

We now believe the Boston is in Ireland County Clare

Hi Margee looking at the above it does not fit in with the age of Mary and birth of the children or their ages looking again The name is definitely Clewing or variation of Clewing

Have you considered this one? The name Clewin to English ears might sound like Cloon.

The Mary Cloon on the 1851 with Parle family, had evidently left there by 1861.

Rambling Report 14 Oct 2015 15:25

There are RC parish records ( civil reg didn't start till much later) but taking a quick look the records for 1820s aren't online at

http://www.nli.ie/en/parish-register.aspx

assuming ( from Google) that Boston comes under the kilkeedy/Kilkeady parish?

Tracker, did you get al l of the children's birth certs, as I see it was suggested that there might have been two marriage of Edward to 'a' Mary?

Tracker

Tracker Report 14 Oct 2015 15:37

No she had many children but I did note that the ages of the chidren suggested that one woman would not have spanned that childbearing age

You say you have the eldest child's birth certificate- was this Vandeleur born 1846?

What was the address? Wondering if there were any relatives living there?

No Augustina as this is my husbands Great Grandmother
Mary is buried in local churchyard with a stone to Edward her husband and other relatives near her as we have traced on the tree Mary lived long after Edward as census shows her as a widow
