THANK YOU all so much for your help!! I am going to go online and order the birth cert straight away. It will be interesting to see what it states, and if Sarah is my Grand Mother.

Shirley, I found the name on the back of an old photo??

Thank you all again

Ann-Marie x

Look forward to hearing the details.

DO come back to this thread though rather than start a new one.

In case you can't find it - look to the left of the boards under 'Tools' and click on 'my threads' and it will bring up a list of all the threads you have started or posted on so you will be able to open up the thread from there.

At last I have my Fathers birth cert. Did not give me the answers I really wanted.

States mothers name just as Sarah Arnott.

Address 140A Monday Street Newcastle.

Nothing at all under Fathers details.

Nothing at the moment seems to tie up with the original details???Have tried searching but have not found anything new....

EDIT many apologies, this has been suggested before! Not sure if the death was put as a possibility, will delete if so.

Ann Marie, something of a long shot, but have you considered this at all? This Sarah would be much older obviously. Monday St. does come under Elswick.

Having said that, why would she give her maiden name as Arnott! Suspect I am just complicating matters.

Ann-Marie can you tell us why you believe Sarah was born in 1901 please. Was that written on the photo you have?

Ann-Marie

Ann-Marie Report 28 Jun 2014 06:08

Yes ChristinaS, one the back of the photo was the name Sarah Bell 1901 then underneath an arrow pointing to the right with the names Thomas and Mona Arnott, then an arrow pointing left with the names Doris, Katherine, Margaret and Ronnie Scott.

I think as brummiejan, and also Shirley previously listed Sarah was much older and this is the right Sarah?? Perhaps she still used the surname Arnott after her husband James died in 1915 ,hence the name Sarah Arnott on the birth certificate??

Ann-Marie - Just a thought....could it be a photo of Sarah Bell IN 1901?

Did the birth certificate give her occupation?

I's so confusing isn't it! Have had a look at Monday St 1911, this is the only vague find, and as far as I can tell there is no link to a Sarah Bell:

Potty

Potty Report 28 Jun 2014 13:42

The photo can't have been taken in 1901 - Thomas & Mona weren't born until 1917.

How old do the people in the photo look?

Flip

Flip Report 28 Jun 2014 13:45

Ann-Marie,

Was your father & Mona brought up by their mother? If so, did your father ever talk about his family - often memories, however vague, can be clues. For instance do you ever remember any aunts/uncles/cousins on dad's side?

Jude has a point, the date could be when the photo was taken does the dress/surroundings give you an idea if this could be the case - also does it have a photographers name (often rubber stamped on the back) that we could check out? And finally, how exactly is the other family member who had the photo related to your father - to help establish why they have the photo and whether the information is accurate.

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to establish how to further this search.

Potty, she doesn't say the children are on the photo just noted on the back.

Flip

Flip Report 28 Jun 2014 13:59

Following on from Jan's 1911 census, 140 Monday street was divided into 2 flats on 1911 census - 140 and 140A. Neither occupied by anyone connected (Alfred Thomas Jackson in 140 and George Sterling in 140a (3 rooms)

Potty

Potty Report 28 Jun 2014 14:16

You're right Flip - Anne-Marie doesn't say they are - I assumed the arrows on the back were referring to the others on the photo. Perhaps you can clarify, Anne-Marie?

Looking for the births of the Scott children, I cannot find a Ronald Scott with a MMN of either Arnott or Bell - there are possibles for the girls.

Flip

Flip Report 28 Jun 2014 14:20

Could Ronnie also be short for Veronica?

Potty

Potty Report 28 Jun 2014 14:40

Has anybody else noticed how similar the names of the Arnott/Bell children are to the Scotts - Doris, Catherine and Maggie Arnott and Doris, Kathleen and Margaret Scott?

Flip, can't find anything for a Veronica.

Flip

Flip Report 28 Jun 2014 14:48

Yes I had noticed Potty, and that is one of the reasons why I was asking about the photo and likelyhood the info may be wrong!

Veronica was just a suggestion - Ronnie is a shortened name, so I was trying to highlight it could be male or female and not restricted to Ronald.

ADDED: the other thing bothering me is the order in which they appear - we normally write from left to right - so I would have thought the oldest first from the LEFT, do Doris being the oldest down to Ronnie the youngest (I believe the 3 Arnott/Bell children were in the same order) - and then the younger twins on the right of the page.

Also when she registered the twins, she would give their names and then it would depend on what questions she was next asked - "Fathers Name? - No, no father - then they may not have asked for her maiden name. If they'd have asked "Maiden Name" first, then maybe she would have said Bell.
