I have found info from both 1861 & 1871 census but cannot find anything on either 1851 or 1881 census.
Info I have is as follows:
George Read born c1812 cabman Elizabeth Read born c1829 wife George born c1849 son William born c1852 son Emma born c1857 daughter Charles (or John) born c1858 son Elizabeth born c1861 daughter Jane born c1863 daughter Fredericka born c1864 daughter Charlotte born c1868 daughter
Marriage occurred in Apr-May-Jun quarter of 1850 in Islington, London between George Frederick Reed and Elizabeth Lucy Scarr.
In 1861 census, George snr is born in "Suffolk, Halham" In 1871 census this has changed to Middx. All other family members are listed on both census' as born in Middx or London.
If anyone could provide further details or offer any ideas on what I should do next, I would be very appreciative.
NB: I have previously posted regarding Reed/Read but became very confused as so many kind people gave directions. I deleted that post as I had become very confused and was reading the same over and over. I am extremely grateful for the help that has been given. I am in no way an expert, and found the huge amount of information difficult to cope with in one post. I have printed that off and have been able to work through it now and make it clearer for myself. Can I say again how very grateful I am for the help that has been given, I would not be as far as I am without it.
:-)

Thank you so much for your help. Will dissect the information given now.
I don't have the certificates - money is tight (as all over!) so I have to be sure before spending any more money.
Many thanks

Not wishing to confuse you, (replies on 'Threads' do need a bit of digesting!), or repeat info. previously given, but given the surname, and it's variants, looks as though it could prove tricky finding correct Marriage without maiden name of Elizabeth...

Oh! I see where the problem could lie. There was an Eliz Allison who was married twice Ist to William Scarr in 1831 and 2nd to George Reed in 1850
However, there is no guarantee that this is the correct George and Elizabeth Reid/Reed that Caroline is looking for.
Edit: Yes something isn't right. If Elizabeth remarried George Reid as a widow in 1850, she could not appear on an 1851 census with William Scarr, her 1st husband!

Not wanting to put a spanner in the works but ... the census details given in the first post do not match the couple's details given in the marriage of 24 Jun 1850 of George Reed and Elizabeth Scarr nee Allison as the ages (and groom's occupation) are different.
In the marriage George is aged 46 (b. 1804) and Elizabeth is aged 32 (b. 1818).
Not sure which info is the correct info for what you need but you do need to work backwards from what you know for sure.

Yes, I agree is VERY confusing! Especially as George Read/Reed is a cousin of the Scarrs!!
What I am thinking has happened is that in 1850, Mr Scarr has died and the widow marries her cousin George Reed/READ.
Elizabeth Scarr was originally Elizabeth Allison, hence name of father on her marriage to Geroge Read being James Allison.
I am wondering if Georges first wife was ALSO called Elizabeth.......? he is shown as a widower so he must have a first wife somewhere....
I am sticking with the George who is shown as a cabman/cab driver as this follows through to his youngest daughters wedding cert where he is a coachman.
If anyone has a time machine which I may use to nip back and speak to these folks, it would be immensely helpful! failing that, I am again, very grateful for your further and continuing help. :-\

Wondering about this birth but wrong middle name.
Name: Elizabeth Isabella Allison Record Type: Baptism Baptism Date: 13 Aug 1815 Father's Name: James Allison<< Occ. looks like Mariner Mother's Name: Sarah Allison Parish or Poor Law Union: Woolwich St Mary Magdalene Borough: Greenwich Register Type: Bishop's Transcript
Ah! Yes
Name: Elizabeth Isabella Lucy Allison Record Type: Baptism Baptism Date: 13 Aug 1815, born 3 June Father's Name: James Allison<<< Mariner Mother's Name: Sarah Allison Parish or Poor Law Union: Woolwich St Mary Magdalene Borough: Greenwich Register Type: Parish Registers
Looks like she was on the 1841 census with William Scarr, aged 40, William Scarr, aged 9 and Elizabeth Scarr aged 5. (For some reason the family is listed individually on Ancestry)
1841
Name: Elizabeth Scarr Age: 25 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1816 Gender: Female Where born: Middlesex, England Civil parish: St Clement Danes Hundred: Westminster County/Island: Middlesex Country: England Street Address:
Occupation:
View image Registration district: Strand Sub-registration district: St Clement Danes Neighbors: View others on page Piece: 731 Book: 8 Folio: 46 Page Number: 10 Household Members: Name Age Elizabeth Scarr 25
She was the female witness along with George Frederick Reed at her son William's wedding in 1854 (details posted above)
It looks like she married her first husband (William Scarr b. about 1802) when she was 16 or younger if William (Junior) is her son?

Oh now the plot REALLY thickens!!!
On my great grandmothers wedding notice, her father is listed as GEORGE GALLOWAY REED.
I now see that on the 1861 census which Chris Ho has added for me, the name of the boarder is: GEORGE GALLOWAY!! Somebody call Columbo!! :-S

Like Jill, I think that there is something not quite right here.
Elizabeth (Isabella) Lucy Allison (sometime Scarr) born 3 June 1815, daughter of James Allison, Mariner and Sarah, who married George Frederick Reed in 1850 (having knocked a few years off her age?) seems to appear on the 1851 census with William Scarr, her son William and Daughter Elizabeth and William's cousin George Reed a Cordwainer.
I am totally lost!!!
I definately seem to be missing something here?
Is the George Reed on the 1851 census living with the Scarr family, the same George who married Elizabeth in 1850 please?
