Well, I am enjoying it Gins, - try my flapjack' contribution - no sign of anything you wouldn't like in there!!

I did have to 'google' peameal bacon though Sylvs as I have never heard of it but it does look good ant tastes great.

This will get my day off to a good start!

Thanks,

Dea x

P.S. Sylvs, I see you have removed the new glasses so I take it that means no red wine on offer today?? - Just as well really, busy day ahead.

Yup, another name and number to add to the blacklist.

Sylv, I prefer cinnamon apple to black pudding on my flapjacks. Any chance?

And no, I'm not a vegetablist.

Gee

Gee Report 27 Aug 2010 08:52

What's betting Jonesey that the same question will be asked again at some point!

Black pudding on flapjacks.....arent flapjacks sweet oatmeal things?

My order for tomorrow....poached eggs on crumpets please, plenty of salt too

Dea

Dea Report 27 Aug 2010 08:56

OOerr !!

I fear you have all misunderstood my 'flapjacks'. - No-one could possibly eat them with honey on !!

They are a biscuity sort of thing made from brown sugar, butter, syrup and oats softish in the middle and crispy at the edges - far too 'syrupy' to put honey on surely??

Might you be thinking about some sort of pancake ??

Dea x

EDIT - Thank you Ginny, at least you know what a 'flapjack' is.
- 1 'gold star' for you XXX

Do you know, I have never had anything but butter on crumpets but the 'poached egg' thing sounds really interesting - I will try it tomorrow.

Flapjacks are scrummy if they're not too hard. Someone I know makes them but they are too brittle and dangerous for the toofypegs. I like them them all squidgy and sweet.

I'll have bacon and toast please Sylvs. Any chance of some tomatoes slipping in there somewhere?

Sounds like Jonesey and Gins have been given the run around............the exercise will do them good.

Can't unnerstand these 'ere folk wot won't eat meat yet like plenty of salt and smoke fags..............no rhyme nor reason to 'em at all. Daft as brushes. Sanity...that's what we need ....sanity. well, won't get it on 'ere that's fer shure.

Going to IRON and listen to a Frost novel.

OK, I confess, I got my flapjacks confused with my pancakes. I sometimes have a similar problem with my Madras and my Elba.

As I get older I seem to get more and more CRAFT moments:

Sighs....and goes out for smoke

Dea,,,I'll have a bit if flapjack but I dont have a sweet tooth

RottenR

RottenR Report 27 Aug 2010 11:36

For those who are confused about flapjacks recipe is

1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
3 1/2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon coarse salt
1 1/2 cups buttermilk
2 large eggs, room temperature
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 tablespoon butter, melted, plus more, softened, for skillet and serving
2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
Pure maple syrup, for serving
Directions

Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk together buttermilk, eggs, vanilla, 1 tablespoon butter, and 2 tablespoons oil; whisk into flour mixture. Fold in blueberries. Set batter aside.
Heat 1/2 teaspoon butter and remaining 2 teaspoons oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Pour in 1/3 cup batter. Cook until small bubbles form, about 3 minutes. Flip; cook until golden brown, about 3 minutes. Repeat with remaining batter, adding butter as needed. Serve with butter and syrup.

And for those confused about pemeal bacon "Peameal Bacon is a boneless cured pork loin rolled in cornmeal"

Geesh Sylvia you have to explain everything don't you

Maybe some day you should introduce that other Canadian staple popular in some places poutine, that should start something.

Robert
