Morning everyone

Had a lovely evening yesterday ...... our very favourite restaurant, to celebrate s-i-l's degree

Yes, Gins, "that" one!

The problems of course were all part and parcel of the state he got himself into before the exam

............. everything is alway deeper or higher, worse or more difficult than for anyone else. I find that exceedingly difficult to deal with, probably as it has never been part and parcel of our family "habits".

He's now at the airport on his way home, while daughter and baby are staying on for another 2 weeks.

Now have to babyproof the hosue .... niece and 20 month old toddler have a 7+ hour layover in Vancouver, and will spend several of them here. Her hope is that he will have a nap this afternoon before they have to return to the airport.

Gee Report 6 Aug 2010 18:56

Question.........

On the BBC the other day I heard the word Croissant pronounced with a distinct 'r'

Now my mate Christine who is French never pronounces the 'r' it sounds like Cwoissan when she says it

What is it then.....mind I cant tell half of what Chris says her accent is soooo strong despite living here for the last 25 years!

Ha...now that would be unbelievable to think that the LEA/Government could think that lateral

I mean don’t we all learn the same way...academic the three Rs...NOT. I wonder if looked into Howard Gardners theory on learning?

Good on him, might be good reading

I guess it might appear on the internet some time ....... the university, like most of them, does digitise PhD theses.

I'll try to remember to let you know if I hear about that.

he has to make a couple of small changes, and submit the finished work by the 18th August

Your friend has the correct pronounciation of course Gins, after all she IS French..

Hearing it said with an "r" makes me shudder.

I was told by my French teacher that my French was diabolical but my accent was spot on.

I never got past the first term in it,still went to lessons as it was compulsory, but was told to read quietly at the back as he gave up on my written work.

Fanny, I think your correct, croisant should be pronounced Quasont.

I battled with French for 3 years at school before finally dropping the subject. I was firmly convinced that there was no need to speak any foreign language as I would never leave these shores. Eventually I went to Evening classes to learn a bit more where I was taught French by a Welshman.

I still remember some of the vital words and phrases:

Excuse moi madamoiselle irez au lit avec moi

Combien!!!

Merde
