Hi Janice

Robert married Hazel Bell Rose DARBY in 1934 in Plantagenet district (Southern coast, e.g. Albany, Mt Barker), reg no 47.

She died 6/2/1978 aged 75. Robert died 7/8/1977 aged 76. They are interred together at Karrakatta Cemetery (see mcb.wa.gov.au). You can request the funeral application quite cheaply thru that site as well. Death certs are quite expensive in WA!

This is Hazel's father's death notice:

The West Australian, Saturday 12 July 1941
DARBY.-On July 10. 1941, at Perth, Thomas Arthur Darby, of 7 Matheson road, Belmont, husband of the late Jennet Jemimah Darby, loving father of Lester, Hazel (Mrs. R. Jannet was known as Minnie. Her death:

DARBY.— On June 3, 1930, at her late residence, Moreing-street, Belmont, Jannet Jamiema (Minnie), dearly beloved wife of Thomas Arthur Darby, and loving mother of Lister, Hazel, Neil and Phyllis Darby; aged 60 years.

5. Phyllis Peterson b. 1909 Perth WA, m. Wm H ROSS 1945 Perth, d. 3/8/1997 aged 88

WWII enlistment of Hazel's brothers:
DARBY LESTER THOMAS ARTHUR : Service Number - W21391 : Date of birth - 26 Jul 1900 : Place of birth - MELBOURNE VIC : Place of enlistment - CLAREMONT WA : Next of Kin - MCCAIG HAZEL

DARBY NEIL SINCLAR : Service Number - WX13828 : Date of birth - 24 Aug 1906 : Place of birth - BELMONT WA : Place of enlistment - CLAREMONT WA : Next of Kin - DARBY IVY

I think I have found contact details for 2 grand-daughters of Thos & Jannet (Hazel's nieces). I can PM you if you like with the details.

Hello Cherilyn,

You recently helped me with a Morris query and I hope you might also be ab le to do so again.

Annie Elizabeth Scott b. 1855 Caslemaine, Victoria to John Scott and Alice Anne Morris.

I have tried searching the Victorian site looking for her death or marriage but without success. Her parents separated, her mother going to America and her father remarrying in 1870 living at Maldon, Victoria. Two other babies died Jessy b/d 1853/1854 and Walter Thomas b./d 1856/57 Victoria.

I would appreciate it if you could please have a look for anything on Annie Elizabeth Scott for me.

With grateful thanks.

Hi Reece

Sorry I can't see her either.

Are you sure she didn't go to America with her mother?

Reece

Reece Report 15 Jun 2012 07:33

Hello Cherilyn,

Many thanks for looking - much appreciated.

Yes, I wondered if this might have happened so now to search immigration to America for Alice Anne and her daughter.

Kind regards,

Reece

Hello Cherilyn,

I am still hoping to find some more on the John Scott & Alice Morris family - have you seen the place name FLORZ anywhere in your research in Victoria, please, as the first child Jessy is shown as born 1853 Florz, Victoria.

John and Alice appear to have gone to the goldfields in Victoria after 1852 and I have found a second marriage for John Scott through a descendant and further family.

I am very grateful for your kind help.

Cherilyn Report 20 Jun 2012 08:13

No idea sorry, unless it is a badly mistranscribed FITZ for Fitzroy?

Was that your only question? 'm not sure if there was more you were seeking...

Reece

Reece Report 20 Jun 2012 10:22

Thank you, Cherilyn I also think it might be a mistranscription. I will send off for the birth certificate to see if that will help.

No, there isn't on this family unless you can suggest where to look for outgoing passengers for America after 1857.

Alice Scott is said to have left John and gone to America with a man named Edwards, they married on the boat and that the records were destroyed in the Great Fire in San Francisco. ( I know that there was more than one "great fire"). They had 2 children born in America.

John "married" again had a family and is buried in Maldon, Victoria with his second wife.

Thanks again,

Reece

Hello Cherilyn,

I have found the information I was looking for on FLORZ - placename in Victoria -it should be FORE which is the abbreviation for FOREST CREEK, the old name for the Castlemaine area - and it is where Jessy Scot was born and, sadly, died aged 6 months. There is a cemetery site for Forest Creek.

Many thanks for your kind help.

Vanessa Report 29 Jun 2012 16:26

Dear Cherilyn,

Could you please assist me with a possible marriage lookup for Western Australia.

The couple I am currently researching are Charles Barry and Lilian Annie Wisbey.

I do not have a great deal on the groom other than his name and possible date of death (being 1909 in WA).

His spouse Lilian Annie Wisbey was born 1891 Albany, WA and died 1956 Mildura, Victoria. They would have married sometime around 1908/1909 in Western Australia as they had a daughter Lilian May born c1909 in Western Australia.

After Charles death Lilian Annie remarried to George William Crisp in Victoria (possibly Mildura) and had 2 more children both sons.

Is there any possibility that you could find a marriage for Charles and Lilian and would I really be stretching if you could find anything on Charles Barry, possibly a birth and confirm his death for me please.

I really appreciate anything that you do find as I am trying to assist an elderly lady who knows very little about her mother maternal family and even less on her mother's paternal side of the family.

I look forward to whatever info you can gleen. Thanking you in advance

Vanessa.

Hi Vanessa

Charles J BARRY married Lily A WISBEY in Fremantle, WA in 1908 (reg 92). Daughter Lilian M St G was born in 1909 in Fremantle (reg 581). She married Robert Jas DOWLER in Victoria in 1927 (reg 9071). Sadly, she died young, in Mildura Vic:

Surname: DOWLER
Given Names: Liln May St George
Father: Barry Charles
Mother: Liln Annie WISBEY
Death Place: MILDURA
Age: 26
Year: 1935
Reg Number: 12934
Event: D

You may need the marriage cert to get any further back on Chas. His burial :

First Name CHARLES
Last Name BARRY
Application Number KB00008757
Aged (Years) 56
Date of Death 15/05/1909
Suburb SUBIACO
Grave Location
Cemetery KARRAKATTA CEMETERY
ROMAN CATHOLIC BA 0211A
Grant Number K0003217
Grantee CHARLES BARRY
Grant Status EXPIRED
Expiry 04/01/1957

And funeral notice:

The Daily News, Saturday 15 May 1909
FUNERAL NOTICE
BARRY.— The friends of the late Mr. CHARLES BARRY are respectfully invited to follow his remains to the place of interment, the Roman Catholic portion of the Karrakatta Cemetery. The Funeral is appointed to leave the residence of his son in law, Mr. Albert Maynard, 13 Howard street, Leederville, at 2.15 p.m. TOMORROW, per road, friends wishing to attend the Funeral may proceed by the 3 o'clock train from Perth.

What this tells us, if this is the right man, is that he was a fair bit older than Lilian and also that he had a previous wife and children.

From the BARRY-MAYNARD marriage I can see that his first wife was Mary Ann BARLOW. They married in Guildford WA in 1880! (reg 4870).

They had the following children, all born in Perth district:
1. Edith Mary Lucy 1881, m. Albert Percival Hugh MAYNARD 1902, d. 20/1/1968 aged 87
2. Selina Maude 1882, m. Jas Haldane MILL 1904 [as Maud Selina Mary], d. 19/8/1977 aged 95 [as Maud Selena]
3. Ethel Augusta 1884, m. Wm Bielby MILL 1905, d. 1/3/1968 aged 83
4. Florence Eveline 1886, m. Jno B MURPHY 1911, d. 1970 aged 84
5. Frances Hilda 1889, m. Edgar STEWART 1910 [as Hilda Frances], d. 14/3/1962 aged 73 [as Hilda Frances]
6. Bernard Charles c1891, m. Julia Cathrine SAMPFORD 1921, d. 12/4/1958 aged 67
7. John Richard Orlander 1893, m. Eileen Mary MARTIN 1924, d. 27/6/1966 aged 70
8. Mary Myrtle 1896, m. Leslie Ingram HIGGINS 1926 [as Myrtle Mary], d. 26/8/1983 aged 87
9. Miriam Ivy 1898, d. 1899 aged 5 months [as Marian Ivy]
10. Mathew Jas 1901, m. Lily Rose Mary BUCKINGHAM 1926, d. 13/1/1942 aged 41 [both m. & d. as James Mathew]
11. Elsie Dolores c1904, m. Hy Robert RAY 1931, d. 26/6/1992 aged 88

Mary Ann died on 27th Dec 1906 aged 47 (so that fits with the timing of a 2nd marriage to 'Lily' in 1908). Chas was buried with Mary Ann (i.e they are both in the plot above).

Possible birth for Mary Ann in Swan district, WA in 1861 to John BARLOW & Mary HOGAN (reg 5708). I think I have found contact details of a living descendant of one of the above children, if you think your lady would be interested. I will send my PM...let me know.

-

Lillian A BARRY married George W CRISP in Fremantle, WA (NOT Victoria) in 1921 (reg 63). Were the two sons named Raymond W (b. 1923) & Sydney G (b. 1924) by any chance? If so, they were born in Perth, WA, not Victoria.

Still looking... :-)

Not sure if you also need the WISBEY side? Note her death year is different to the one you have given in your post...

Surname: CRISP
Given Names: Liln Annie
Father: Wisbey Wm Jno
Mother: Sarah TREVALYNN
Death Place: MILDURA
Age: 55
Year: 1946
Reg Number: 19053
Event: D

Lillian's parents were Wm Jno WISBEY and Annie Sarah TREVALYAN/TREVELYAN. She was born as you say, in Albany in 1891 (reg 274), the same year and place her parents married).

Sadly her father died young, in 1898, aged only 41 (reg 2022). He was born in Hackney, England, son of Wm & Jane (nee WILSON). He was a piermaster in Fremantle and a stationmaster in Busselton.

The West Australian, Monday 30 May 1898
NEWS AND NOTES.
FUNERAL of Mr. W. J. Wisbey.-The funeral of the late Mr. William John Wisbey, who died on Friday last, took place on Saturday afternoon, at 3 o'clock. The cortège left the residence of Mr. T. Briggs, Roe Street, Perth, and the remains were followed to their last resting-place, the Church of England portion of the Perth Cemetery, by a large number of friends. The chief mourners were-Mrs. Wisbey (wife of the deceased), Mrs. T. Briggs, Messrs. T. Briggs, McDavitt and Clough. The pall-bearers were-Mr. Weedon (station-master, Perth), Inspectors Wakeham, Brown, Summer, Hurlston and Drewe. A large number of the deceased's fellow-employees, connected with him while pier-master at the Port and in the Railway Department, also attended the funeral. Amongst the wreaths placed upon the coffin were those sent from the following : - The forwarding and com- mission agents at Fremantle, the Harbour and Lights Department, Fremantle Jetty's staff, West Perth station officials and Mr. and Mrs. McDavitt. The burial service was read by the Rev. J. Ellis, who officiated at the grave, and the funeral arrangements were carried out under the personal supervision of Mr. Donald J. Chipper.

He left Annie 225 pounds - no small amount in those days. Perhaps she decided to go elsewhere, as I can't see her anymore in WA after his death.

Let me know if you'd like info on Lillian's siblings.

It appears George's father, Geo Wm CRISP snr, arrived in Victoria in 1857 aged 8 as a child, with his father also Geo Wm (33) and brother Chas Tho (4) (actually Chas Jno). Also a Mary CRISP aged 58 (possibly mother and grandmother). Both boys were born in London.

The eldest Geo Wm died in 1865 aged 42, born Cambridge, son Wm & Mary Ann (nee WOLLARD). Chas Jno died in 1888 in Warrnambool aged 35, son of Geo Wm & Elizabeth (nee CORK).

A sad tale of lots of young parents dying in this one, I'm afraid!
