Just a little message to wish you all a Happy and Peaceful New Year in 2018.

Helen went back to spend the New Year with her little family in Durham and plans to come back again this weekend. Her Dad is still not at all well but we try to stay grounded and not let our minds think too much ahead right now. Baby steps for us.

Thanks to Jane for the updates which I appreciate, and very many thanks to you all
for your ongoing support and kind words which mean a lot at this difficult time. xxx

I have been sitting here watching a small flock of long tailed tits flitting around the garden. It’s strange the way they suddenly appear, spend a little while in the garden and then disappear. It’s often weeks before we see them again.

I have a blackbird who seems to have taken up residence IN the birdbath. He sits in the water and every so often has a splash around. He clearly thinks it is his property as he chases off any other bird that tries to get near it. Occasionally he gets out of the water and struts around the edge of the bath. The water must be freezing cold but he is very funny to watch :-D

Same here with Long Tailed Tits. I dont see them for months and then a whole group appear for a week or so and then vanish again. I love them and wish they would visit and stay for much longer. It is the same with Goldfinch too.

Have been thinking of Kandj and her family today. I expect they are all feeling quite numb still . <3 <3 Kandj <3 <3

We were getting 6 or 7 goldfinches at a time but, for some reason we are back down to one or two today. Still have three or four blackbirds visiting, they spend more time chasing each other than feeding. And we have one greedy magpie that has discovered we feed mealy worms to the blackbird(s) on our little patio table right in front of our lounge window.

Sharing our very grateful thanks to everyone over these last months. Thank you .

My precious husband is finally at rest after very many years of suffering. I was with him at his last breath and he clearly knew I was with him to the end. His many years of suffering and pain have ended but been passed over to me Helen, Martin and our Grandchildren Jack and Katie who adored their Grandpa. We are all left in pieces and we can only hope and pray that this get better as we take little steps now. XX

Such a sad time for you all, I truly wish you the strength to bear the pain for him. It must be twofold for you. You miss him for himself, for his love and comfort for you. And you miss having him to care for, that leaves another hole in your life.
I am so pleased for you that you were with him as he started his next adventure. I am sure you will be grieving for a long time yet but I hope your faith gives you the strength to continue your life without the support you have Had for so long. Be sure he will always be with you, I do believe that. Much love Kandj <3 <3

Kandj, there’s not much I can add to what Ann has said. At the moment you must be feeling very raw. Give yourself time to grieve. Your lovely hubby will always be with you in your heart so cherish your memories.

Sending love to you and your family <3 <3

a good morning for birds here. A flock of long tailed tits on the feeders expecially the coconut, couldn't believe my eyes not seen them for so long. Then several blue and great tits. The blackbird's mealy worm saucer was empty and he was looking puzzled so I went out to fill it, he flew off as I went out the door but sat in the apple tree. As I shook the bag as I filled the saucer he flew down to my feet and was eating before I got in the door. He obviously knows now where the food comes from. Also saw a wren and yesterday the robin was back in the garden.
A very grey day here today.

I have just put Helen on the train and the reality of being in a quiet bungalow is real.

The funeral date isn't until Monday 29th January and that seems to be so far away.
Helen and I have visited her Dad in the village chapel of rest and he is so peaceful and we were both hugely relieved that his many years of pain have gone from his face now.

Thank you everyone for all your cyber support during such a heartbreaking time. All your kindness has been lovely and helped our family such a lot. THANK YOU ALL. xxx
