Ah, when not on holiday often the only time I read is in bed for about 20 minutes every evening. Some of mine were light books, some quite solid books, some kindle and some paperbacks. I don't skim read although I do read fairly fast.

Wow that is quite number. :-)

I couldn't possibly compete! :-D or..*smiles winningly........can I count those books I have cast aside after page ten? Kindletart BC <3 :-D

I don't always sleep very well so do most of my reading in the middle of the night.

Have just finished The Kashmir Shawl by Rosie Thomas and really enjoyed it. When I read the "blurb" I thought it might be a bit of a sentimental romance but it wasn't like that at all. I thought it was very well written and I will look for other books by the same author.

I am shortly going to start on The Invisible Woman which I have just received through the Genes book club.

I Love Rosie Thomas's books and The Kashmir shawl was a favourite. I too have the invisible woman from Genes but I am tempted to try and see the film first as I think the film has got a different ending to the book.

Apparently the film of The Invisible Woman is a love story with a happy ending; the book doesn't end like that.

It's always a risk watching a film after reading the book - you end up getting cross with the screen when they deviate from the original plot. :-|

Have just down loaded to my kindle Brow of the Gallowgate
by Doris Davidson, so enjoy this author.
Now must hurry up and finish reading the not so interesting
book.

I am half way through Mr Lynch's Holiday by Catherine O'Flynn. She is a fairly new author who has written two other books, as far as I know, one of which... 'What Was Lost' I thoroughly enjoyed.

Dermot Lynch is a recently widowed, retired bus driver, who has never travelled. So he decides to visit his only son, Eamonn, who is living in the south of Spain with his girl friend (except she has just left him). Eamonn's apartment is in a large development whose owners went bust, due to the economic climate, so most of the flats are unfinished and the communal swimming pool houses a family of feral cats and rotting leaves.

I am really loving it so far. Father and son are total opposites and have never spent too much time together, so it is interesting to see how their relationship will work out.

Just finished The Landscape of Love by Sally Beauman. An unusual book, written in different places in the narrative by different people. A large house, a converted abbey. Family living there, a mother and three daughters and a grandfather (father's father - father dead). Youngest child special needs, probably autistic, 'sees' the nuns who lived there before. Friends, a part gypsy boy, Dan whose grandmother tells fortunes, an artist, Lucas who is painting a portrait of the girls and a friend, Nick. Ther family is impoverished, father's brother inherited the family home plus wealth, Creepy nephew.

The story tells how their lives are intertwined with tragedy, betrayals and love.

A very good read once I had got into it after a couple of chapters.

Just finished The Invisible Woman, courtesy of the Genes Book Club. I have put a long review on that thread so I won't repeat it here. I found it an enjoyable read.

Can't get through the Fallen Queen, think I've still got

Well, having enjoyed Mr Lynch's Holiday I quickly downloaded Catherine O'Flynn's 'The News Where You Are' and was curiously disengaged as there where chunks and chunks of comments on urban buildings, architecture and the changing face of cities, and not nearly enough characterization. I was a bit bored and disappointed.

My neighbour has raved about William Boyd's 'Any Human Heart'...anyone read it?
... so I have downloaded this for my next read.

‘ Saints of the Shadow Bible’ by Ian Rankin is the most recent in the Rebus series.

Set mainly in Edinburgh it merges the ‘bad’ days of policing when evidence was lost, planted or altered to ensure that that the villains were taken off the streets (in some cases forever) with repercussions when an enquiry is launched in light of the ‘double jeopardy’ Bill. Topically the imminent Independence Referendum is incorporated when one of the leading ‘No’ campaigners is murdered. As usual, two story lines are running concurrently.

Rebus still goes his own way, but is mellower than in the earlier novels. He still drinks, he still smokes but much less than he used to. We learn more about his first posting as a DC at Summerhill police station and the corruption that went on.

This book ties together the characters of Malcolm Fox from The Complaints’ and Rebus’ old colleague Siobham Clarke who is now his boss.

This is a much better read than the majority of my downloads, possibly as Rebus is ‘an old friend’.

If only BC can't wait either :-D
