In rememberance of George W.F.Pope
Middlesex Regiment killed in action 3th may 1917
and also
James Dower Royal Engineers 6th July 1918 .

Who are these men who march so proud
Who quietly weep, eyes closed, head bowed?
These are the men who once were boys .
Who missed out on youth and all it's joys .
Who are these men with aged faces
Who silently count the empty spaces
These are the men whose hands held tomorrow
who brought back our future with blood tears and sorrow .
Who are these men who promise to keep alive
in our hearts the ones god holds asleep?
These are the men to whom i promise again
veterans my friends i will remember them.

My great grandpa - John William (Jack) Kibler, who was killed by a mortar at Ypres in 1918 (age 38) - his body was never found. His name is inscribed on the memorial at Pozieres near Albert in France. He left a wife and 6 very young children.

Only last year my second cousin gave me a photo of him and notes my great aunt Lily had made about when her dad came home from the war after he had been gassed, and he had frostbite and trench foot. He went back to France and was killed shortly afterwards. He looked so young ...
