June Report 21 Apr 2005 07:59

Hi everyone. It looks like we could be in for a nice day, I must get some washing on and hang it out, I much prefer washing hung in the open air. Yesterday I had a look at those CDs I purchased from LDS. They are unbelievable and very good value, there's 10 CDs for £17.50 inckuding postage. I haven't found my grandfather but I found my greatgrandfather and then it just went on and on. Some of the information I had already got but there's so much more that I hadn't, on each name it told you where the information was from, Like Leadenham Parish Records etc. and the person that submitted the information. sometimes more than one person had submitted the same information. I just wish I had had this at the start of the winter, its like doing a massive jigsaw puzzle. This is going to keep me quiet for a long time. Sylvia, you have really got the bug for cleaning everything up for Spring, It isn't warm enough for me yet and at the moment there seems to be so much going on, Gaynor and family are moving in with me this weekend. It will seem odd having people around all the time but that is what I enjoy. Brenda, I think I would be turning up at the wrong place Kathleen, Probably your grt grandfather had just moved jobs and the family would join him later, thats what happened with my grandfather. I'm afraid I'm going to have to dash now, its nearly time to take my granddaughter to work. My grandson ( in Denmark) has just spoken to me on messenger, so I.m sorry I have been interrupted, I'll see you all soon. Love June xx

Hi all, I am having a terrible interrupted week. Everytime I plan to do something I find visitors or the telephone keeps ringing. This morning my daughter turned up - only saw her last night! Of course it's nice, but I was up early changed the beds, but still have to put the duvet covers on. I started to make bread and fused the elec twice. Still dont know what did it. I had breadmachine, oven, dishwasher and elec kettle all on, but everything is going ok now. Even the programme I taped on the video something has gone wrong and it hasn't taped. Johan is downstairs in his hobby cellar so will ask him if he has done something to the video recorder. I thought I must sit down before doing anything else and see who's on the Board. The weather is bright but still terribly cold. Went to my son in law's birthday yesterday evening. He was 50. When you are 50 in the Netherlands they say you have seen Abraham (men) and they make a huge effigy of you and hang up. Now Susan, my youngest daughter, had made one and put it on the roof of her garage. The effigy had skates on as Rene (50er) skates a lot. She had lots of balloons and a sheet with 'Rene is 50 hanging out'. Anyway it was nice to see Renes parents and brothers again. We took our grandchildren with us in the taxi. Oh when a woman is 50 they say you have seen Sarah! They bake special spiced cakes in the form of Sarah or Abraham. Now back to work before Johan comes upstairs for a cup of tea. Sylvia xxx

Hi all, How are you Brenda, and how did you get on at the hospital? I went to the market today and Johan came along with me. He has made a new contraption at the back of my scootmobile to hold my shopping trolley and wanted to see how it worked. Well going over bumps it slid about so he now knows that he has to make some alterations. It is a lovely sunny day, but that ghastly wind. We had coffee out. Linda has been and cleaned my bathroom and toilet and done the vacuuming, so that is nice for the weekend. My hairdresser has been so I'm nice for the weekend. Where are we going - nowhere! Might get visitors of course. One never knows. Still no sign of Fred. Fred 'Can you hear me son?' I bet he is having a laugh at us. Anyway, have a nice evening, Sylvia xxx

Hi everyone, Its lovely and sunny here and quite warm. I have put some bedding out to dry because there is a little breeze. This morning, Gaynor and I went to a local Shopping centre, its Gaynor's birthday tomorrow and she wants some new clothes. She got shoes a top and some fashion jewelery. Everyone was walking around in their Tshirts and no jacket because it was so warm. When I got home, I was so tired, I thought I would have a little sleep but I couldn't get off. Sylvia, you have some lovely traditions in the Netherlands, I suppose we have had over the years here but people rarely keep them now. Brenda, We have green boxes for Glasses, cans, blue bags for newspapers and brown bins for garden refuse. There was an interesting item in the local paper, If you dont put your brown bin out, it doesn't get emptied so you have to put it out on the pavement , by putting it on the pavement, it causes an obstruction, but so the authorities say, it isn't an obstruction when it is waiting to be emptied, but once it has been emptied, it is.so you should take it in right away. Have they not heard that some people have to go to work!! Sylvia, I hope Johan gets the contraption working alright, it sounds a great idea. When I have my hair done and I'm not going out, I always say 'all dressed up and nowhere to go' Yes I'm wondering where Fred is too, I haven't seen him joining any other threads either. I keep thinking of Gaynor's family today, it's the funeral, they have put a very brave face on so far, I do feel for them. I hope all the rest of our team are alright and look forward to hearing from them all. Take care Love June xx

Kathleen Report 23 Apr 2005 01:52

Hi everyone, It has been a lovely day again, yesterday was perhaps a little warmer. Got more washing done and dried, where it all comes from I don't know. There are always dozens of pairs of socks - and only 2 men in the house. Mind you almost as many shirts, I think it's the uniforms they wear for work that makes most of it and the fact that my sons change their clothes as often as they change their minds!!!! The forecast is for rain tomorrow, hope it isn't too much because I still have work to do and it's much easier to walk around when it's dry. There were two swallows in my garden yesterday so maybe the sun will shine again as summer is surely on the way. Susan had her 3rd chemo session this morning, I felt so sorry for her as she really looked so ill and tired. On Monday she has to have another scan and is not looking forward to that as she will still be feeling very sick. Did a little bit of shopping for her, just a few things she hadn't been able to manage herself on Wednesday. Have been thinking of Gaynor and her family today, they are all very close and hopefully will be able to support each other through the coming days and weeks. It did occur to me that she had probably met up with our Bonnie Jean and Gwen Pruce and they are having their own little 'meet-up'. All ladies with a great sense of humour and a lot of courage. Brenda, sorry I meant to say earlier, so pleased all went well at the hospital. It must have been a worrying time for you. Is your leg better now? I think I am going to have to see the doctor about my knee as it isn't getting any better and can be very painful. It's not too bad when I am walking (although I am a bit like old hopalong) but if I then sit down for a few moments it is very painful when I try to walk again. Walking actually seems to help a bit, it's odd really. There is one spot on the inside of the knee that really makes me jump if I touch it. I hate going to the doctors :--(. Sylvia, Johann is really clever to make that trolley for your scooter. That will be a big help for your shopping trips. Hope you don't get any more windy weather, it is most unpleasant and can be quite scary. June, please say Happy Birthday to Gaynor. She shares her birthday with my mother (and William Shakespeare). Mind you my Mum would be 103 this year!! If you are looking in Jude, Ann and Fred - what are you doing out there and when are you going to join us again? Off to bed now so Goodnight, sleep well. God bless Love Kathleen

Hi everyone. Its lovely and sunny here but a strong wind. Yesterday I got some bedding dry, I was going to do more today but with Gaynor moving out, we are busy enough without having washing around. I have just popped on while I am drinking my coffee. Kathleen I will pass your birthday messages on to Gaynor, she wont forget this birthday in a hurry. lol I hope Susan soon feels better, my friend said it was the sickly feeling that bothered her too. Sylvia is missing too this morning, maybe she will be on later. I hope everyone has a lovely weekend, I've no doubt we will still be sorting ourselves out, tomorrow. Must go and do some more moving things around Love June xx

Hi everyone, Its a lovely sunny morning here. We were lucky with the weather yesterday too, all the big furniture has now been moved out, its just the small things that will fit into the car that has now to be moved. We still have to find a home for everything here though but last night everyone had had enough so we went to a local pub/restaurant for a meal. When we went there a few weeks ago, my steak was rare and I had ordered well done so they took it back, the trouble was, everyone had finished their meal when I got mine, but we thought we would give them another chance. Unfortuneately this time, Gaynor's steak was more like braising steak than sirloin, so that restaurant is definitely off our list now. We do have a lovely Italian restaurant but on a Saturday night it is so busy. Everyone is still in bed, I think they wore themselves out yesterday. Jude, Its lovely to see you again. I'm glad you are getting on with your 'crafty' work and it is the time for gardening. Madoc, bless him is still chasing around, I think he and Beckham are the type of dog that stay puppies all of their lives. Have a good day everyone. Love June xx

Its me again:o)) It was one of my elderly neighbours, bless her, she'd come to pay for her paper which Vic gets on Saturdays, and she paid for it last week!!!:o) still it gave her a chance to have a natter. She's 81 and works harder in her garden than l do and paints when ever she has a spare moment and sells them for 'Art for Africa'. The neighbour who died some weeks was cremated in a coffin made from willow,it was made into a basket, all woven,When l saw it l cried - so beautiful and enviromentally friendly. Been in the garden again its a gorgeous day, yesterday was awful, typical cause Vic WAS going to help. He worked today!!!!!!! So sad that Gaynor has gone, lovely caring lady.Amazing all the things people are doing in her memory and the cancer charity:o) June - just realised your Gaynor has moved, how are things now?? Yes Beckham and Madoc are still just pups, good fun though. He still insists on getting into our bed at night while we read - trying hard to stop him though, all those bloomin hairs - grrrrrrr Sylvia - as usual you are very busy, good on yeh. l've been trying to make new Oven gloves, bought some wadding, they are ok but could do with being abit longer up the arm - so will try again. l'm really wanting to start a bird bath mosaic, but need some cement - have loads of old plates, tiles and an old plant pot from next door, should be enough - might get vic down the garden centre in a mo!!!!!! The garden is coming along nicely now, moved a few more plants today, still digging the awful clay soil, but l'm getting there. Ok thats it for now - hope every one is well, take care:o)0 jude sarf wales xx This thread and pages download or move or what ever so much quicker - great!!!

Hi all, Where do all the hours and days go to? My God, it's now the end of Sunday afternoon and what have I done - nothing special. At one time I never ran the washing machine on a Sunday, but today I ran two machines. I would never hang it outside on Sunday though - think of what the neighbours might say! Today tried Johan's summer trousers on - hey, ho, they fit. I thought we'd better do it today as he has about 4 pair of winter trousers now which don't fit. Yes, he is putting on weight. I think it is the Prednison tablets which he is taking. Anyway, he has summer trousers for our trip to Spain. 17th May cannot come sooner for me. We looked on the internet today for car hire in Benidorm and Johan has been comparing cars and prices. Had an e-mail from my daughter and she said she drank too much yesterday. Their football team PSV of Eindhoven are champions for the 6th time. Her partner is football crazy. He went to Monaco some time ago to watch PSV play and now he is going to Milan tomorrow. He is going with his 2 sons. Last time when he went to Monaco we went to stay with Janet but this time we are not going to. The weather is bright but still a strong cold wind. Lovely to see everybody back on this board, Jude, Brenda, June - now I can go away on holiday knowing you will be keeping the thread going without me. Not that I started it, it was Brenda, but don't like to see it disappear. I watched the Pope being sworn in and enjoyed the service. I like the music. I also like Gregorian music very much. Not that I cannot appreciate popular music - not all - but unlike Johan can enjoy both. Johan only likes classical music. We beg to differ! Sylvia xxx

evening everyone, sorry I didnot get back yesterday as i said I would,I was busy answering emails and trying to forward something to another friend ,but kept getting a funny message about the server,so now I don't know if she got it or not,I will see if she replies to it. I have also been busy trying to find a good deal for our holidays in September.I see prices which are ok then try to book it ,to be told it's full so why can't they say that before I get a quote??? To day I went to watch a St Georges Day parade near where my dad lives and dad and my b.i.l came as well,it was good. I went home to do some house work and was interupted by loads of phone calls from family to wish my son a happy 30th birthday, which is nice I agree, however my son was out with his dad and half sister,so I ended up chatting to them and got nothing done. We went out for a meal at tea time which was really great, all our meals were just right and we came home full up and happy bunnies. Nice to see you Jude, please feel free to put something on here when ever you want .It's always nice to have freinds drop in.Glad Madoc is still as loveable. June ,hope all settles down with the house move etc. Sylvia where my friend used to live in Australia, you were not allowed to hang washing out in the garden on a Sunday !!!Don't know why. Kathleen, hows the knee ,been to the doctors yet?my leg is ok most of the time I just get an ache in the groin/thigh when I sit for longish periods. Off to bed now ,am at the hospital with Dad in the morning. take care ,Brenda

Kathleen Report 25 Apr 2005 01:02

Hello all, Pleased to see you Jude, did you find out how Fred is? Brenda, I am taking Susan to hospital tomorrow for her scan. She is still not too well so I hope it will be quick so I can get her home again and resting. Not seen the doctor yet - it will take a few days (at least) to get an appointment but it has felt a bit easier today. Funnily enough I get a pain in my groin/thigh if I sit for long, actually it aches but becomes a pain when I stand up again. June hope all goes well with the move and that you soon find the house you are looking for. It will be good to have Gaynor with you when you do finally get settled. Moving is such a pain isn't it? Don't know how my mother coped, we moved at least once a year and often more. My Dad didn't like not having us with him wherever he was working. If it was more than a few weeks - we moved!! I remember the when the second Christmas was approaching after we had moved to Preston we were asking when we would be moving. When Mum said 'why do you think we are moving' we said 'well we were in this house last Christmas' had never spent two in the same house before. Sylvia, I can imagine how much you are looking forward to your holiday. Just to be in a milder climate for a while and hopefully come home to better, warmer weather. It is those cold winds that make it so miserable - and the rain of course. It used to be absolutely not the thing to hang washing out on a Sunday even if it was the only fine day all the week. So many of the old 'rules' have gone nowadays, like having to whiten your doorstep and shake the mats before 8am - does anyone even do that anymore? Am off now to tidy up the mess I have made sorting some paperwork. It was supposed to be clearing a mess but I seem to have created more in the process. Have a good night and sleep well God bless Love Kathleen

sorry, I keep missing this thread, been on the boards but i realised today that it is a while since I posted on this one. Just read back a few postings, good to see all your news. Saturday i went to the glos family history Fair, bought a couple of old books, one called Life below stairs, one the old Towns of England. not had time to read them yet. The eafternoon we spent in the garden. Then in the evening we had a St Georges night at the Golf club which was an entertaining evening with a man on the keyboard playing all the patriotic songs, then an hour of disco - popular tunes-, then more singalong to land of Hope & Glory etc. With much flag waving. sunday we went to a couple of Garden centres for some wood for Tony to make a planter to put a clematis in - he eventually got it at B&Q. Then spent a bit of time in the garden. Today I met Sally (with senior moments - previously with dogs) off the board at a local garden centre for coffee. we had not met before bu we didn't stop talking all the time we were there. good to see you again Fred, pleased all is well and that you had a good break. we have missed you. Everyone else - sorry no personal messages but I hope you are all OK. take Care Ann Glos
