I hoped to add a message this afternoon but after taking ages to actually get the thread to load when I went to Add a Message - I lost it - twice!!! So gave up, it seems the gremlins have gone for now though. Elisabeth, I thought I was the only one to still have the boxes of decorations waiting to be put away. Mine went up into the attic today and I also only managed to throw away one or two broken items even though I had planned to get rid of lots that we don't seem to use much. Brenda, hope your leg gets better soon. Not being able to sit comfortably is very wearing, is it possibly damage to the sciatic nerve? Sounds very like something my youngest daughter did some years ago, it took ages before she was free from discomfort. The doctor said she had strained the sciatic nerve which then became inflamed and caused the discomfort and pain sitting down. June, I'm afraid I laughed at the thought of you waiting to see if there were footprints in the snow when it got light - only for the snow to have gone by then. Not really funny to be woken at that time by the burglar alarm, it must have been pretty scary. Glad you managed to get a snooze in later though. Di, there are compensations to getting older, at least we can sometimes get away with being kids again. Splashing around in puddles in your wellies being one - I must get some new wellies so I can enjoy the great puddles we get here. Our drains cannot cope with all the rain, the car park at our local shops is nearly always one gigantic puddle. Makes getting in and out of the car quite uncomfortable when only wearing shoes. Some places have had some really heavy snow storms and Scotland has had it really bad. As has Northern Ireland, I wonder how Anne in Belfast is? There have been blizzards and heavy snow there. Quite treacherous in some areas. Here we have had quite a bright day, though it clouded over for a short time. Very, very cold and quite windy though. Susan had her pre-op assessment yesterday, she has asked me to take her in on Tuesday - and to pick her up on Thursday by 8.30am to bring her home. I have told her to ring me at 8 just to make sure that she will be discharged that day. Let's hope all goes well and she can come home then. Jude, hope you are enjoying your b-i-l's visit and Madoc is having a great time being made a fuss of. I'm off for now, sleep well God bless Love Kathleen |

Hi everyone, Thank goodness I wasn't wakened by the alarm again but it must have been praying on my mind because I wakened at that time anyway. Elisabeth, Your friend's house sounds lovely, I have always wanted to do that but I think I have left it too late in life now. I finally got my decorations away on Sunday, I have never been this late before. Brenda, I hope there is some improvement in you leg/back, the trouble is you never know how long these things take.Take care and I hope your dad is as well as can be expected. Kathleen, Now its my turn to laugh at the thought of you splashing around in the puddles, you never know I might be around the corner with my camera! Not long for Susan to wait now, I bet she (or you) cant wait for her to get it over and done with, my thoughts are with you. I think I will make myself some toast now, so will see you all later. Love June xx |

Hello everyone, hope you are all enjoying what ever you have been doing that has kept everyone away ,must be good. My leg/bottom is sore and siting here still a problem.Thought it was only certain chairs that caused it to ache but today has been a constant ache,I walkedto work today as I was on round the corner.Going was ok as it is down hill, but coming home was not so good, someone else mentione the siatic nerve Kathleen so I will be seeing what happends.I can feel a sort of ball/lump in the muscle, which apparently might be the bruise in the muscle it's self!!! I have a little problem with my search which I hope you ladies might help me with. My granddads grandparents married in april 1867.On the 1871 cencus they have a daughter aged 3.I have no idea if they had any family nearby. On 1881 census they have a daughter aged 13 and a son aged 14. When the daughter married in December 1884 she is shown as 17. I have found a few matches on 1837 and but nothing on family search which might show the parents. I could go to our local reocords office but that only shows same as 1837. If I went to Southport or even down to London would I see a copy of the cert anywhere before buying it ,or is it all reg numbers etc. Any ideas please. take care ,Brenda |

Brenda, to answer your query re: birth certificates, the Records office only show the reference numbers, the mothers name is not shown until sometime in the early 1920's. There is no way you can view the certificate before buying, however you could try sending to the appropriate Registry Office and giving the names of the parents, they will only send the certificate if it matches and the local Registry Offices usually give a full refund. If the daughter was 17 when she married in December of 1884 she would have been born after 3 April 1881. Hope that helps. Have you tried using anything like Deep Heat on your leg? I do hope it gets better soon. June, I am thinking of getting some of those lovely rainbow wellies, or maybe the ones with multi-coloured dots all over. Think my family would disown me!!! Already they won't walk round shops with me at Christmas time, I love to set all those singing, dancing Santas and animals going - I usually find myself being trailed by all the kiddies in the shop. I hope Sylvia is enjoying her trip and they are not having any of our bad weather. It has been pretty good here today again but very cold. Sleep well everyone God bless Love Kathleen |

Hi everyone, Its a dreadful day here, its never stopped raining. We had to go back to the travel agents, Gaynor had bought some Krona yesterday and when we looked at them today, they were Czheck not Danish, so we wanted to change them but they and 2 others hadn't got Danish ones, so on our way home we called in the Post office nearest to us and they had them. So after all that trailing around in the pouring rain, I am having a rest. Brenda, just go easy on that leg, I wouldn't do too much walking. Kathleen, I definitely will be down there with my camera if you get Rainbow wellies, although I do admit to pressing all the musical animals, trees etc at Christmas. I went with Gaynor to see the Orthopedic Surgeon yesterday and she definitely has to have an operation. At the moment I think we are both a bit stunned even though we knew it was a possibility. I hope evryone is alright. Take care. Love June xx |

Hi, I'm back, Yes, Johan and I arrived home this afternoon. We had to leave Eindhoven at 8.30 am as Johan had an appointment with the rheumatologist. It is a good thing that we had time to spare as we had so many hold ups on the motorway. It made us glad that we don't belong to the rat race any more. There were some maniacs diving in and out trying to get in front of us, but in the end gaining nothing. Johan is still not finished with the rheumatologist. He still has to resume with his medicine. This has been going on for more than a year now. We left here on Monday and had a leisurely trip down to Eindhoven. In the evening I played cards with Janet and Henk, Johan sat reading his book, as he doesn't like playing games or cards. Tuesday was Henk's birthday (Henk is Janet's partner) but Henk had to work until the afternoon which he had taken off. Henk's mother came for coffee in the afternoon. What a wonderful person she is. She still drives a small car, sings in two choirs, makes her own greetings cards, visits the elderly when needed, has had 10 children herself and is now 82! In the evening Janet and Henk had different friends in for coffee followed by drinks. We had an enjoyable evening. Wednesday (yesterday) Janet, Johan and I went into Germany and looked around the shops. Janet had to go to the physiotherapist first so we were a bit later leaving than we'd planned. My poor legs, knees, etc. I'm just not used to this walking. In the evening Janet, Henk and I played cards again. Janet spoilt us immensely, and she loves having us stay. How nice it is to be welcomed! Henk and his 2 sons are going to Monaco to watch their football team PSV Eindhoven play football, so Janet has asked Johan and I to go and stay with her and we'll go into Antwerp shopping then. I suppose my aches and pains will have gone by then! This Sunday we have a birthday to go to, and also Monday and Tuesday. I've been wracking by brain on what to buy as presents. On the way home from the hospital today we stopped at a large garden centre and I bought one or two things, but not really what I want to give away as birthday presents. Maybe I'll opt for gift vouchers. I've so little time left now. Where I live we have no suitable shop for gifts. Will close for now, love, Sylvia xxx Thinking of you all, June, Jude, Brenda, Di, Fred - where are you Fred? and excuses for those I've not mentioned. |

Evening all, It has taken an eternity to get the page to load again, and to see the latest news, so I had better add a little to bring it to the top again. It is good to see Sylvia home safely from her trip and that everyone else seems to pop in now and again. It has been a blustery day again and I can hear the rain beating on the window just now. I have had a lovely day of lots of family information from someone distantly connected, and found on this site. She has access to ancestry and keeps sending me census images which is wonderful. I have quite a lot of the information but it is much nicer to have the image in front of you. It is so kind of people to take so much trouble. I bought a few summer bulbs today, reduced to clear in Big W sale. I only went in for a look around, but as usual ended up buying a few things. I bought a pair of strong gardening gloves reduced to half price and when they went through the till they had been reduced by half again. Quite a bargain at 99p! Tomorrow is shopping for the weekend and the rounds of deliveries to Mum and Auntie, so that is the day gone again. Its nice to be useful though. I hope someone does my shopping when I'm nearly 90 - I think I feel that age sometimes now though! Have a good night/day. Love, Elisabeth |

Hi all - just a quickie. This is the first time in a few days that l have managed to get on here, soooooooooooooo slowwwww. Ann from Gloucs emailed me earlier and l asked her to apologise for not being around, but hey l'm here now!!! (oh no they all said!!! lol) Wont stay long as l have left Vic and b.i.l downstairs, plus l am tired. We have been out most days, walking, driving, eating drinking etc Last Sunday we sat in a pub and really enjoyed and Irish band, the music was great, l had 3 glasses of wine and don't remember getting home!!!!! We had a taxi, l remember getting in the cab and getting out,but not the drive in between, nor do l remember ringing my daughter or eating cheese on toast - oh my word what am l like, obviously can't take my drink anymore - age!!!!!! Tomorrow my son,his wife and m.i.l are coming for the night then we are all meeting daughter & partner in Oxford on Sat. Son will be back on Sunday to stay until Wed. His wife will be in Rome for a week then straight onto Prague for a week, both trips with her job!!! tuesday we went to Rhaydar in Mid Wales to see the Red kites (again) and this time to look at the reservoirs as well - wow that was worth seeing. l think there were about 100 Red Kites. We sat in this hide which was full with very intense bird watchers - b.i.l would'nt stop talking!!!! lol lol l had to keep poking him and saying shusssssshhhhh - THEN my mobile went off, how embarassing, l went outside with it into the awful wind and rain. It was my son - l could'nt stop laughing. On the way there we went through nearly every kind of weather - brilliant sunshine as we left, then snow on the mountain tops which gradually we could see in the fields, then on cars, then it snowed (quite hard too),then hailstones, oh my word it was SO COLD!! Right l'm off't now, hope to get back in a few days.l will try and read all the messages. Sylvia sounds like you've had a great time. Hello Elizabeth, great to see you back. take care everyone:o)) Brenda - the measurements are done for the shelves just waiting for him to have some spare time. Nite nite:o) jude sarf wales xx |

Hi everyone. Its quite a nice day here today, the sun is out although we had Hailstones during the night. Sylvia, What a nice time you had with Janet, you seem to pack such a lot in, in a small time. Elisabeth, What a bargain you got with the rubber gloves. I am glad youi are doing well with your tree, I have come to a dead end on most branches now, The ones I am managing to add are sort of sideways padding, if you know what I mean, I sort of going sideways instead of in a straight line. Jude, It sounds like you are on holiday because you are having such a good time, it will do you a power of good. It will be nice to have your son again, his wife is very lucky to have a job that takes her abroad so much. I have had quite a laugh at the thought of your phone ringing when you were in the hide. Brenda, I'm glad your dad has coped with the chemo. I also hope your leg/bum is getting a bit easier. I have been doing a bit of research again, the trouble is I am going sideways when I want to get back a bit further. I think I will have a lie down now,try to recover some lost sleep Take care everyone Love June xx |

Good Evening all, I am typing on the computer and watching tv at the same time. Not just with a tv on in the next room as usual, but with a receiver on the computer. It was on sale at Netto last week and we have just installed it. I am not sure I will use it much as my brain isn’t too good at multi-tasking at the best of times! Brenda – hope your Dad is still feeling ok after the chemo, and that he makes good progress. June – sorry to hear that Gaynor has to have an op. I will look out for news of how she is getting along. Jude – Thanks for the mail. Hope all is going well with the visitors. I think your son should have arrived by now. Sylvia – you certainly sound very busy. So much travelling and visiting. I don’t think I could cope with all of that. Kathleen – I now have a vision of you with brightly coloured wellies, skipping through the puddles. Hope all is well with your daughter. I will be thinking of you all. Can’t think of any more exciting news. Peter just rang with updates on his DIY. He is so pleased to be getting on with making his new house into a home. It is lovely to hear his enthusiasm. Happy weekend to everyone. Love Elisabeth |

Hello, Once again it took me ages to find this thread, and how slow it is these days - and I have a new computer! Well today I went to the market, and although rain was forecast managed to get there and back dry. There was a cold wind blowing though. I'm looking forward to having the weekend with no special commitments for me to catch up on some things. When I arrived home from the market my hairdresser turned up an hour earlier than our appointment. I was rushing around taking washing out of the machine, as I had changed the beds and wanted to put more washing in the machine. My house looks like a bomb has hit it again. My hairdresser wanted one of my "baby" cards for a newborn baby boy, but I have only two and they are for girls. She was so disappointed, and has asked me to make some in advance for her. I love making these cards, but am finding it very difficult to find the time. How ridiculous, how did I find time to work, and that was only 10 years ago! We are supposed to get snow over the weekend. A good job I don't have to go out. Monday I have to go for diabetes control and afterwards a birthday, but we'll go in the car. My granddaughter is having a weekend in Center Parcs with two of her girlfriends. They have borrowed my daughter's car and want to go into Germany tomorrow. I don't like this idea of them going into Germany with a borrowed car as this girl doesn't drive very often. Anyway, I have nothing to say so must keep quiet. I shall be glad when the weekend is over though and know that she is safe! I am sure you will all appreciate my anxiety! Thinking of you all, love Sylvia xxx |

Hi everyone, I haven't been on here for ages. I've been busily planing my trip to London and working out just what I'm going to fit in. I want to see where my three English grandparents were born and I'm also going to Denmark where my paternal grandfather was born. June, when are you going? I arrive in London on 17th February so I'm getting excited. My son is already there. He left on boxing day to work in London for a few months. He said I could come and stay for a while and he's coming with me to Denmark too. I'll stay an extra couple of days there as he will only have the weekend off. I'm very excited. Christine |

Hi everyone, Well the weather has been sunny and dry here today, we had a ground frost this morning but my birdbath wasn't frozen the blackbirds had their daily bath and splashed the water all over. This afternoon I have been to Gaynor's with my niece and her daughter, then we went down into the town where there are a couple of unusual shops, we all ended up buying something. I bought a new tablelamp. Elisabeth, I always have the TV on while I am on the PC, that way I can keep up to date with things and leave my PC if there is something I want to watch. Sylvia, I know what you mean about worrying about your granddaughter, I get told I am fussing again, they just dont see danger at that age, I suppose I must have been the same and my parents must have worried about me. I hope you dont get too much snow for your trip to the birthday party. Ann,Glos, I haven't noticed the snowdrops out here yet, maybe they are out in more sheltered areas. You are right this site is so slow. Fred, You have room to talk, saying Sylvia is always rushing around, you are too, lol By the way, I'm glad you didn't leave us. Chris, you sound as though you are going to have a lovely time while you are over here, I haven't set a date yet for visiting Copenhagen, I dont think it will be too long though. Lou, I dont know how you fit it all in with working full time. I agree you have to some fun too. Brenda, I hope the leg is improving, keep taking the painkillers. Well I'm now going to watch TV for a while, so see you tomorrow. Love June xx |

Hello, yes it's me again. You would think I had nothing better to do, wouldn't you. Far from it, but the pc is very tempting, isn't it? Well, I tidied up the house a little today. Actually when the piles of washing and ironing had been dealt with it looked tidier. I then got down to some more card making before anybody else gets disappointed. My husband and I are making a graph today for our diabetes specialist on Monday. We have to be at the doctors at 9.15 - ugh, another early morning! My blood sugar is far too high at the moment, so I don't know what they will do now. Maybe another tablet. I hope I don't have to start with injections. My husband has to do this and it's such a ritual. Well must enjoy the weekend and forget those trivialities. Ann, I don't know about Rank Xerox being in Eindhoven, but Eindhoven is what we call the "Philips" town. Philips have many factories and offices in Eindhoven. They call it the "light" town. So Fred, so glad you've not been chased away. You are amongst friends, and don't forget that. What are you having for dinner tomorrow? June, you are always the backbone of this thread, you seem to be able to write every day, and not to forget how you remember people's birthdays. I wonder where Di is? Which reminds me I must send her an e-mail. So everybody, that's my bit for tonight, back to card making for a couple of hours or so. Love, Sylvia xxx |

Hi everyone, Well everyone has got white cars today, there has been a heavy frost but not on the ground. Now we have lovely sunshine and blue skies. Sylvia, I usually come on here first thing because once I start doing jobs, I get sidetracked and dont always remember I haven't been on. Its a bit of a ritual each morning, first, as I am passing I switch the computer on, then the kettle and take my tablets. By this time the kettled has boiled so I make my coffee, give Beckham his treats, playing with him as I give them to him, Then I take my coffee over to the computer, if its a week day, I check my Bank Statement and pay any bills I have to.then I go to Genes, check first if anyone has put the birthday messages on that I am going to put on. The Birthdays are on Word so I bring that screen up and enter the relevant birthdays. Then I read some of the threads and put a message on here. Afterwards I go to Webshots and look if I have any messages and go to MSN to look for emails. Of course if I have to go out early all this gets put back, til later. I hope your diabetes checks are ok and that you dont have to inject. Brenda, I'm glad your leg is improving you are so energetic putting the washing on at that hour, i'm afraid I dont do much at that time nowadays. To see what others have written, I start my thread off, then Click on the "back" button to read, then click the forward button and add more to my message (after making sure I am at the end of the message) I keep doing this as I go along. I hope your friend joins us, the more the merrier I say. I take it everyone else is having a lie in being as it is Sunday. Kathleen, thinking of you. So Elisabeth, Lou Ann,Glos, Anne Belfast, Di, and Fred and all, I hope you are all alright. I'm off for my toast now. Love June xx |
