June Report 17 Nov 2004 12:08

Hi everyone, Just a quick visit, I still haven't got my PC back, I am waiting for his call so mustn't block the line. Di, I really feel for you, I dont know how you manage to stay in the house with Ratty, he seems to be getting braver than ever. Have you tried catching him with chocolate. A friend of mine was telling me that when she lived in a bungalow, she went to clean her teeth and there was a half eaten bar of chocolate stuck in the overflow opening of the bathroom washbasin. She had left the bar of chocolate on a coffee table in the lounge, the night before and the rat had tried to take it down the overflow outlet. I will try to pop back in a while, I really am tired of waiting for this man to call, I called the lady in the shop a little while ago and she said he was out and would call me when he came in. Sell you later Love June xx

Hi Everyone,It's one of my days off today ,the other being Friday, have tidied up all the magazines in the living room and sorted out who I am giving them to,put them in bags to be delivered at weekend. Sorted out some old handbags to take to the charity shop.have found some I have hardly used .why do we do it keep things just in case?? June ,hope the pc is brought back soon for you ,don't want your back going al together. Jude, thought the dirty paw marks where bad enougth, but would not be happy about paint. The cats usually sleep under the radiator during the day ,if they get into our bedroom, they also have a bed in here, and one in the dining room,so they are not short of comfy places to go. Di ,I would be camping out now if I had your visitors, you are a brave lady!!Hope all those traps work.Sounds like it could be nesting ,with trying to take the tea towel. Sylvia,Ilove going t o have my feet done,I usually go Sunday mornings to a chap near one of the libraries that I work at.But for a real treat,I like to go to the Schole (is that how to spell it)shop in town but it is expensive. I am going out with my dad this after noon to see my auntie and take some old photos for her to see.so need to get a move on.Speak to you in the morning ,if I cannot get on here tonight. take care Brenda

Kathleen Report 17 Nov 2004 12:25

Hello everyone. Just a quick message from me as everything has got so behind and my house looks like a tip. Probably because so much of it needs to go to the rubbish dump!! All the turning out and rearranging has been a bit neglected this past week and now I keep falling over things that shouldn't be where they are. This morning started bright and sunny but has now clouded over and a bit windy. The forecast is for colder and not wetter weather, don't mind that just need to get warmer jumpers out and wrap up well. My daughter telephoned this morning, the nurse from the clinic had spoken to her and it seems the surgery might not have to be so drastic - at least not at first although she might need further surgery later. We will have to wait and see as I'm afraid she doesn't always get it right and sometimes "hears what she wants to hear" if you understand what I mean. Whatever happens she will be in good hands and the family are doing their best to give her a bit of pampering at the moment. Poor Indy is upset by it all but everyone is assuming she is ok with it. I know she isn't - and today she is excluded from school for the day. Apparently because she called a teacher an idiot (from what she tells me he is!!) however she should not have done that. I think I might ring the school and tell them about the situation. They have a new Head and quite a few of the teachers are either new or supply teachers so they are not aware of her background. Doesn't excuse rudeness though and not what I expect from her. Do think exclusion is a bit drastic though. I have read back the messages, you all seem to be keeping very busy. Won't mention all the names now, just hope you all have a good day. God bless everyone Love Kathleen

Kathleen, I think that is a good idea to put the school " in the picture", as you say it is no excuse for bad manners but sometimes children behave out of character because they aren't able to handle a situation. Good Heavens, its hard enough for us older ones. I hope your daughter is soon on the mend, my thoughts are with you both. Love June xx

Hello All, No time for a long message but thought I ought to pop in and 'see' you all. Been out all day, went to Morrisons at tewkesbury to get the grocery shop, then drove on to Evesham Country Park. We had not been there before. Too cold to go round the actual park but there is a lovely garden centre there, with a nice restaurant. Also there are shops, a bit like a small factory outlets place. 'Famous Labels', abook shop, food shop, health food shop, home shop (kitchen stuuf, china, glass etc, Cotton Traders shop, small needlework shop, small shoe outlet. Quite interesting and with the garden centre shop plenty of opportunity to spend money!!!! I enjoyed meeting Jude yesterday and having a good old chat. Hope you had a good day with your sister today Jude. Di, Hope you get rid of ratty soon, horrible things! June, hope you have heard from your computer ma and get it back soon. Kathleen, good idea to let the school in on what may be the cause of Indy's behaviour, she will be worried and probably doesn't like to express her worries at home for fear of upsetting the adults. Brenda, I too have a store of handbags that i may want to use one day, and most of the time now I wear a 'bum' bag because I feel it is more secure. Speak to you all again soon. Ann glos

Hi everyone, Just a quick visit while the dinner is cooking. Ann, I have got my PC back this afternoon but haven't had much time on it because I had to go and pick Samantha up. It seems to be quicker, thats probably my imagination. Have decided to get a wireless thingy, Nick already has broadband but the man in the shop seems to have convinced him it wont slow Nick's PC. Then it means I wont have to pay for Surf unlimited. Anyway dinner needs some attention so see you all tomorrow. Take care. Love June xx

Hi all, That garden centre you went to sounds "just up my street". Did you spend a lot of money? June, I don't think of myself as being full of energy, seem to be slowing down. In fact am getting worried about extra 4 for dinner on Sunday, something I've never been worried about before. My neighbour calls me "the kitchen princess", but feel more like an "old queen, than a princess". I've been tidying up my hobby room today, and my neighbour came down for a chat, she had nothing to do and once again offered to do my ironing. This time I said "yes please". Later on, her husband came down for a glass of Amaretto, so I never finished my room. I would have liked to have finished the room, but I cannot be a-social, can I? Just heard on the news this evening that our Prince Bernhard - 92 years of age - has an aggressive form of cancer. He has always been doing so well. He is Queen Beatrix's father. Tomorrow have to go to my hairdresser for a perm. She always comes here for a blow dry, but I go to her for a perm. The weather - grey, rainy and cold. Forecast for tomorrow - wintry showers. Poor Di, ratty seems to like your house, doesn't he, or is it she? For those I haven't mentioned please forgive me - lack of memory sometimes! Sylvia xxx

Evening all - (Dixon of Dockgreen again!!! lol) Its been a lovely day here, really quite warm:o) l spent quite a while hoovering the lounge this morning, trying to get rid of Madoc's hairs - we have allowed him to get on the sofa this week (blanket on),as his fur is mostly white, its in all the nooks and crannies - guess what the carpet is covered again already!!!! Thanks Ann - yep we enjoyed ourselves, its so nice to know that we can do this every week, before we moved to Monmouth l would only see her about once or twice a yr,maybe 3 times! mind you that meant l left behind another sister, she won't travel this far cause of her arthritus:o( and the other one lives in Cambridge. Before l forget - THANK you Ann for the website, its great:o)))) and the write up of your Gt Grandmother, its very interesting, l have printed it so l can use it as a reference, IF l should do something simular!!!! Di - Ratty is a cheeky little watsit is'nt he?? can you not block any of his escape routes?? When l am in the mood l love drawing - l did a drawing for She Wray of her granddaughter (one is Oz),she was pleased with it,but it took ages - l will put one of my drawings on the GC site if you like?? Your England thread is doing really well, good one:o)) Kathleen - l do hope your granddaughter is ok,bless her, this must be awful for her and hope the school understand when you tell them. Don't worry too much about the house, just do what you can and keep busy, but don't over do it.Take care!! Brenda - hope you enjoyed your visit to your Dads and Aunties?? Did l tell you all that Madoc has an appointment on 29th Nov with orthopedic vet in Bristol. No food the night before,no water in the morning - take 2 small meals with us and THE CLAIM FORMS!!!! we assume from that that he's there for the day, will ring them in the morning - will also ask them if they have a side entrance, so l can sneak him in before he see's the other dogs and starts making a noise - he'll squeel with excitement and then bark very loudly at the first dog - thats our Mad dog Madoc!!!!!!! HAPPY 76TH BIRTHDAY FOR TOMORROW KATHLEEN. Just in case something happens to stop me saying that tomorrow, I'll say it today as well! Hi everyone, The weather doesn't look too bad todaym we haven't any sun but after all it is November. I have got my PC back, thankgoodness, I like my laptop and had I have known it was going to be so long, I would have brought it downstairs onto my desk. The only trouble is trying to plug it in etc, but that problem will soon be sorted I hope because Nick was talking to the repair man about wireless connected to Broadband, we have ordered it and if it is as good as everyone says I will be able to use my laptop anywhere without a phone line. Today, I am hoping to go with Gaynor and Samantha to a nearby retail park, where there is PCWorld, Hobbycraft and loads of other big name stores, and there is ample parking space, although its horrendous there at weekends, especially on the runup to Christmas. Why do they build a good retail site with ample parking space, but only one entrance and exit! Jude, I would love to see your drawings, I know She was very pleased with the one you did of Isobel. I bet Madoc is so pleased he met you, someone who cares enough about him to get his poor leg sorted. Sylvia, No wonder you give your neighbour Amaretto when his wife does your ironing, sounds like a good swap to me! Ann(Glos), I think Nick has been converted at last, he had quite a lengthy discussion with the computer man and he liked the "Materials" he uses, Nick says he uses the best. Nick is a bit of a mixture, sometimes he is so impetuous and sometimes he really weighs things up before he makes a move. Any way fingers crossed! I hope everyone else is alright, I will see you tomorrow. Love June xx

Hello Everyone, just a few lines at the moment as i have spent ages reading Dis thread and before that reading and replying to emails, had none for days and then get loads at once. Kathleen have a brilliant bithday tomorrow ,might not get on here as I have a lot to do tomorrow.Hope your grandaughter is ok and it is a good idea to let the school know what is going on.things sound better for your daughter ,lets hope so. June you sound like you are getting really upgraded,LOL. Ann I have put the handbags in a carrier bag BUT they have not gone to the charity shop yet!!!! Jude My aunt wasn't in when we got there she had forgotten an hospital appointment ,my uncle and cousin where there and we still enjoyed the visit,my dad worked with my uncle and thats how he met my mam.He and my uncle are now deaf in both ears, my dads deafness might be hereditry as his mother was deaf and his brothers and sister are deaf. They used to do tunnel mining in the 1950/60s.and have been told that it could have caused the deafness. It is really funny sometimes as we have to translate what they are saying to each other.!!! Sorry to anyone I have missed.I have to get ready now then I can have a coffe before I go. Take care Live Brenda

Hi everybody, Here it is a dull, wet, rainy day, but not so cold as yesterday. This morning went to my hairdresser for a perm, then on the way home did some shopping. For the rest of the day did some more ironing as I changed the beds before I went out this morning. Received my "Family History" magazines - 3 copies, so cannot wait until I can sit down and read them. Want to go to the market tomorrow, but don't know whether my neighbour will be going, as she still has a bit of a cough and doesn't want to go out in the wet. I wish I could say the same, but I don't have a husband who can do the shopping, only really for an emergency. I hope that you have a lovely birthday tomorrow Kathleen. What is it like to reach 76? Another 4 years for me! Will keep this short as I have nothing interesting to talk about really, but keeps the thread moving. Sylvia xxx

HAPPY 76THBIRTHDAY KATHLEEN, Hi everyone, Yesterday we had sleet but knew if it did snow it wouldn't stick because everywhere is so wet. when I went to bed I looked outside(as I usually do) and the cars were frozen over. My hedges have lots of red berries on them which is a sign of a hard winter to come. Yesterday Gaynor, Samantha and myself went to a nearby Garden Centre which is always more expensive than the rest, but it is always so nicely decorated. This is the one where fish and chips cost £8.95!! needless to say we didn't have the fish and chips, we just had a cuppa and a sandwich. Brenda, Good luck with your Christmas shopping, I hope you get some bargains. Sounds as though you are in for a good evening too. Sylvia, So you are looking very smart with your new hairdo then. Tomorrow is the day we meet up with my niece after 28 years, I have butterflies in my tummy every time I think about it. Well I have to go now, so I will try to pop in later. Love June xx

KATHLEEN happy Birthday to you --- Have a wonderful day. Brenda, have you got rid of that bag full of bags yet??? You know it makes sense. Says she who is the worst 'squirrel' of everyone. Lovely bright sunny but chilly day here today, I see june has been to the garden centre too. We have just returned from visiting two. Only intended to go to one but when we came to rejoin the M5 it was blocked so we detoured on A roads which took us near the other garden centre. At the first we bought bird seed and bird suet pieces, these were £3.99 minus 10% (off everything because of rebuilding disruption), at the second GC the same pack was £4.99. at the first we bought 9because tony loves putting up lights at christmas) a rope light train with wheels that appear to go round. £14.99 minus the 10% and at the second GC it was £17.99. it shows that it pays to shop around, and as these are both local I know where I will shop in future. Must get on. Ann Glos

Hi all, What a storm and rain we had in the night, no snow yet. I went to the market on my own as my neighbour didn't want to get wet. I had to go as I have visitors on Sunday and I don't like shopping on Saturdays. When I arrived home I had a coffee and then it was time to go to the physiotherapist. It is going very well and don't have to go back for two weeks now. Bliss! Like you June, I'm meeting my nephew and niece whom I've not seen for a good 20 years. These are the children of Johan's brother. Johan's only brother died of cancer many years ago and my sister-in-law didn't last long after. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing them, with their partners. My daughter may be popping in too, as she wants to leave my granddaughters suitcase with me. Linda is coming back from Barcelona tomorrow, going to her mother, and then going to a dance feast in Rotterdam. She doesn't want to take the suitcase to Rotterdam. I am going to make Jambalaya tomorrow, with a raspberry trifle for sweet. Jambalaya is so easy to make the day before, so that Saturday I can sit with my guests and not spend too much time in the kitchen. Now what else have I done today. Oh yes, got the sewing machine out and stitched a backing on a guest towel which I had cross stitched. Another job finished. Ran a washing machine with a wool wash. Now only have to get the dinner ready. Salmon, potatoes and beetroot. Not too difficult. Like to have fish on a Friday. Oh I nearly forgot, happy birthday Kathleen. Sylvia xxx

Thank you all for your birthday wishes. So far it has been a lovely day. It has been a lovely sunny but cold day, lots of cards and a phone call from my son who left for a weekend in Paris this morning. He phoned when he got there to say Happy Birthday and when I went to his house to feed his cat I found a card and box of chocolates. Indira bought me perfume, a lovely light fresh scent and Susan gave me a jigsaw - a lovely mountain scene. Of course I have already had my lovely bed from them all. Last night I watched a programme about people looking to move to Canada - they were looking in the Rockies and the scenery was so beautiful. The area they were visiting is one where no one has to lock the doors and is a really friendly community. It was such a nice change to see a whole hour of great scenery and some really nice houses, very relaxing. Sylvia, sounds like your weather was pretty much like ours yesterday, very windy and wet. So many places had snow but we escaped that. As for being 76 - well as I have said elsewhere, I am 19 inside just the fourth time round. Was told twice yesterday when making phone calls that I didn't sound 76 - mind you not sure how you should sound at that age!!! I remember my granddaughter saying, a couple of years ago, "you must have had quite a nice face before it got some crinkles". Wasn't sure whether to feel vexed or pleased about that :-) Must go and let Fat Cat in, it is a bit cold for her to be out now, her name is really Tinkerbell but she is rather too rotund for that name now. My son keeps her on a diet but I think she gets fed elsewhere. Hope you all have a good evening, will be back maybe later. Love and thank you all God bless Kathleen

Kathleen Report 20 Nov 2004 02:13

Dear Jude - Thank you and not to worry I wasn't born until 6pm so as far as I am concerned it is still my birthday - at least for another few hours. Had a phone call from my youngest daughter who notoriously forgets birthdays. This time she said that when she looked for a card to send me she couldn't find one she liked and didn't have time to go to another shop - and then forgot!! Am being taken out for dinner tomorrow night and on Sunday going to meet up with old and new friends from TYFH. Will let you know all about it on Sunday evening. The following Saturday am meeting GC members in London. It is really freezing here, so much so that my chest freezer which is in what was once the coal store, was so frozen that I had to use a hairdryer on it to get the lid open. Of course there is no heating out there, fortunately the hairdryer worked pretty quickly. When I went to let Fat Cat in and feed her, as I drove along my road there was a poor, very squished, hedgehog in the middle of the road. Quite a large one, I was surprised as I thought they would have hibernated by now under somewhere cozy and warm. Fortunately one of my nice neighbours went out and removed it, my neighbours are all nice people. We do seem to have quite a lot of squirrels running around at the moment, they are finishing off the apples left right at the top of the trees. They do have a habit of throwing them at you if you venture too close though. Earlier this week I lost yet another wing mirror - pulled off by some horrible youngster. I am getting really fed up with having to keep spending money to replace wing mirrors only for the little monsters to rip them off again. I'm thinking of putting itching powder on the next one - or something equally nasty to give them a taste of their own medicine - any ideas gratefully received!!! I am off to my bed now - electric blanket will have warmed it up nicely so I will be nice and cosy to do my crossword before I go to sleep. Hope you all sleep well. God bless Love Kathleen
