Neil, Back in the 1960s I was working for George Wimpey & Co and they offered me a transfer to Canada. I turned it down because they were not really offering enough in wages to justify me leaving all my family and friends behind. I do sometimes wonder how differently my life would have turned out if I had gone, but there again, I had 6 lovely children and, although one died young, I wouldn't want to not have any of them. |

Neil, Yes, I worked for them on loads of sites all over this country, Houses, Flats, Factories, even a Steelworks, and a Jetty and Pumping Station in the North Sea |

I do remember they told me that they could only build for about 6 months of the year before it got too cold. I never really found out what they would want me to do when the Site was closed for the Winter. I was a Storekeeper/Timekeeper, and I used to train the new Storekeepers. |

Jim. It starts to get cold here in souther Ontario around Nov - Dec. Then in January to April we get down to -20c at night and some days as well. Northern Ontario is different as it gets down to -30c at night and -20c during the day. :-)) Maybe you were lucky:-)) Neil |

FTY. Volvos are wonderful even if mine did have the obligatory labrador in the boot! Have a Citroen now and its not half the car the Volvo was in terms of quality. Was pretty responsive too , deceivingly so. sorry to butt into your male thread guys! joan. |
