Not all old ladies are so cruel When I first met my husband's grandmother she was 94. He had been married before and she'd never liked his ex wife. I obviously passed muster as she told him in a stage whisper ''make sure you keep this one, she's got good childbearing hips.' I can't say I was flattered but at least I was accepted! sadly she died before my girls were born. She would have adored them.

Wendy I am sure you are far to young to heed this advice. A 92 year old woman, spry, active, bright well-rounded, , told me that 'at a certain age' (?) losing weight is not a good idea, it makes the face and neck scraggy. And I think that is true,, well, that's my story! But seriously, only lose weight if you are not truly happy with your body as it is. I saw your photo and I think you look lovely. XX BC

Wendy I know it's horrible, although I have the opposite problem as I cannot put on weight (yes I know you hate me now!) and complete strangers have come up to me and actually pinched me saying 'you need a good meal girl'. I find it really offensive. Daisy

It's just as hurtful your side as well, Daisy, isn't it ? I don't hate you - I'm just not going to stand next to you for photos - lol.

we havethe same problem with our next door neighbour - she was whinging to us last week that she can't get clothes to fit - she finds a size 6 too big !!!! not helpful when we're trying to lose weight lol

I know some people pride themselves on being honest, but there's a huge difference between honest and rude and a little thoughtfulness wouldn't go amiss would it? We usually know our own shortcomings and don't need anyone to point them out quite so unkindly, whatever their age. Thanks for not hating me, but you'll have to stand next to me one day so that we can have a good natter! Daisy

It must have been the week for near the knuckle comments Wendy, my father-in-law (who I happen to think the world of ...or did...) said, 'I've just seen the new photos and I dont know what happened, you looked grogeous when you got married??????' Why is it that the first thing people say when they haven't seen you for a while is not hello, but 'you're looking well' did I look ill beofre then? Or is it just a 'tactful' way of saying you've piled it on a bit... You look great in the photos by the way! I'm started Lindy's diet today... love the idea of the quid per kilo for Pinks fund too... Paul, I neither expect (nor receive) sympathy for being skinny! lol I've seen a picture of my grandmother and I know exactly how I'm going to look when I'm old - skinny and haggard and I really wish I could put some weight on. Sorry, I'm really not endearing myself to you am I? lol Daisy

Unknown

Unknown Report 21 Mar 2005 17:16

well I don't think I'd want to be too skinny, and neither does Sharon - she was quite slim when I met her, but we both think she'd look unhealthy if she was too skinny, as she's quite tall. That said, I think we could both do with losing a couple of stone

Unknown Report 21 Mar 2005 17:25

Daisy, I don't recall you being 'skinny'! Slim - yes, skinny - NO! I wouldn't really bother too much about being so huge if I could easily buy nice clothes to fit me. It's the height, as well as the width, of me that's a problem! If I buy clothes in the appropriate size, they're obviously made for some dwarf or other - sleeves way too short, waists about 4 inches too high -and trousers are a nightmare. I really do laugh when I see ladies' trousers advertised in 3 leg-lengths - petite, standard and long. The long ones are always way above my ankles and look ridiculous. There are specialist clothes shops for tall people, and I do use them, but it would be so nice to be able to wander into one of the High St chains and find something that fits, and not have to pay an absolute fortune for things. CB, Thank you! I think we have a mutual appreciation society going on here because I don't recall you being overweight at all. Either we're both oversensitive or we need our eyes tested! lol Daisy

Deanna Report 21 Mar 2005 17:39

Daisy, I hate yah. CB, I've seen your photo on the London meet.............call that FAT? You aint seen nothing yet. I've been on steroids for years, starting out on huge doses, and although I'm reduced to a much lower dose, its very hard to lose weight. I just hate the easy way people assume you sit around eating chocolates all dy. NOT EVEN IN MY DREAMS! Deanna

~♥ Daisy ♥~ Report 21 Mar 2005 17:45

Deanna I don't care what size you are and I love you even if you do hate me! lol Daisy

Unknown Report 21 Mar 2005 17:58

Deanna, That's kind of you. I reckon I look like a galleon in full sail in one of those photos! I wouldn't even add those taken of me that I've got here - don't want to frighten anyone! I am sorry to hear about the steroids causing you weight problems. If they're doing you good in other ways, maybe being a bit more cuddly isn't such a bad thing? I do understand how annoying it is, being unable to shift tons of blubber. I long to have my waist back again, but I doubt I'll achieve it now I'm pushing 60. Daisy, It's dark glasses all round at the next Meet - OK? LoL CB >|<
