I'm sure I'm not the only one on the boards who was either born or bred in Derbyshire ... or has lived here at some point ! ...am I ?? I'm was born in Derby, grew up in Darley Dale, spent my teenage years in Matlock ...moved away to Staffs for a number of years but got homesick and returned to Matlock and then because of the animals we moved to the Alfreton district where I am now. Am I alone ? Elaine :-) **** Seems there was quite a lot of interest in a meet ! ... so if anyone's still interested, let us know, where, when etc ... August is NOT good for me ... September seems to give a few weeks to sort things ! and it doesn't have to be Matlock - but Matlock Meet had a 'ring' to it !!*****

I was born in Derby Elaine and when I was two, my parents (and I!) went back to Ireland . I would love to go back some day, all I can remember is the road where we lived, Portland Road. XXBC

Hi ...so I'm not alone then !! BC, Derby is VERY busy now ! if you like shopping, you'll like Derby ... but it scares me to death ! The only thing I like about Derby is the Train that heads for Matlock !! :-) Elaine :-)

Hi Elaine, At last a local over the border. I live a few miles away over the border in Huthwaite. I used to live in Hazelwood, near to Duffield and have ancestors who came from Staffordshire/Derbyshire. Louise

Hi Elaine, I was was born in Matlock but that is all I can say born during the war, the place was it called Willersley castle. I have been to see the place and I loved Matlock went on the cable car up to the heights of Abraham. Hope I will be going back again for another look around one day. Margaret xx

I haven't been to Duffield for ages it used to have a great Deli run by the ex-wife of an actor from 'The Bill' that did gorgeous chocolate cake and savoury brioche loaves..yum. Louise

Hi Elaine, I lived in South Normanton until I was 16, when my parents moved to Blackpool. I used to cycle in to Matlock, I would love to come back to look around and also look for some rellies. June xx

South Normanton I know June ! Sounds like you have rellies/ancestors here ? A few of my Mancunian friends are wanting to come over to Matlock for an hour at the Records Office and several hours in the pub ! Shall I keep you informed ? ... i live in Alvaston Derby, and my partner that i live with most of the time lives on The Green, Swanwick, just down the road from you, i like Mcdonalds farm, Alfreton, she prefers the Cross Keys and Steampacket at Swanwick, i have Carnell relies from Darley Dale, Hackney Lane

LoL Gary, I've only ever been in the Cross Keys, and only the once ! My daughter went to Swanwick school ... My sister used to live in Alverston before coming back here to Denby. Elaine, Sorry I've lived here for nine years but I've never been into any pubs. So I haven't got a clue where any of the mentioned ones are. We live about a mile and a half from the Mc Arthur Glen place. Louise.

Louise, So when you go into Alfreton, you'd go through South Normanton wouldn't you ... by going (over ?) the roundabout rather than down the A38 to Derby. If you come down the A38 towards Derby and turn left, your heading towards me ! Elaine ;-)

Andy, Kirkby in Ashfield I know ... its where my dentist send me when they are over booked in Jacksdale ! Not my favourite place because of this !! Elaine :-)
