Ash and i have been out Poppy Selling today, a very worthwhile time for an amazing cause.
The College students were all coming out on their lunch break whilst we were in the town centre, most of them just passed us by, busy in their conversations and on their phones, i began to assume that our presence was being ignored by them, but then as we were about to return to the Poppy shop, we became surrounded by a small group of students, all eager to put their money into our collection pot , they were not wanting a Poppy in return for their donation.................... a Royal British Legion Wrist band is THE must have accessorie for the youngsters these days. So please, my message to you all is : please don't make the mistake that i did and assume that because you cannot see a Poppy being worn by a youngster, that they are not wearing their Poppy with pride, it could well be on their wrist instead. xxxx

Thinking about yesterday's date - and Harry Patch: I read this about him recently
"Harry died, as someone pointed out, aged 111 years, 1 month, 1 week and 1 day, or 11,11,11, the date, no less, of the Armistice. A coincidence of course, but a marvellous one all the same."

Kath, what a moving poem, it brought a tear to my eye. Since I started FH I have found several relatives I never knew of who were lost in the war. Each time I think about the impact it must have made on their families and friends.

Who would have thought there would be so little caring and respect in the future that people would even think of stealing their memorials for scrap value. I find that very upsetting. They do not realise how different things would be now if it were not for these brave men and women.

A gentle reminder for everyone to take a few moments tomorrow, and on Sunday, to remember all those lost in conflict, and in defence of our proud nation.

We owe so many our thanks and gratitude for their service, in war and in peace, from 1914 to just this week.

We will remember them.

For anyone that lives nearby- Duxford imperial war museum is open free of charge on Remembrance Sunday and they have all sorts of things going on including a remembrance service

On the 11th November 2011, my special thoughts and prayers for those in my family who fought in, and didn't return home from, WWI and WWII.....uncle Geoff, Tony and Ernest.....and for ALL those brave men and women who fought and died for us, so that we can enjoy the freedom we have.
They did not fight, or die, in vain.

WW2. Pvt. David William Cooper - Airborne Division.

The plane he was in crashed into the side of a mountain in thick fog, in Oslo, Norway.

They were coming back from a mission to bomb a Heavy Water Plant.

Every person on the plane died, 2 days before Peace was declared.

He was 27 years of age.

RIP.

Another reminder for a few moments of private thought thiis morning, as I prepare to go out to a small act of remembrance today.

I shall give thanks for the fact that my father, though wounded in WW1 in Mesopotamia, returned and lived to a good age.

So many didn't return and still do not return home from serving this fine nation both at home and abroad. even this week.

We will remember them.
