They are also remembered at the National Memorial Arboretum.

But they don't have a memorial stone of their own,,these men, its known where they were put in front of a firing squad and where they were buried!.

Where is their marker,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,nowhere.! or their record.

Almost everyman who died in WW1 have their name on individual stones in WG around the world.

Its annoying.

Kay

The "Shot at Dawn" were represented and mentioned at the Cenotaph today.

Of the 349 shot at dawn 306 were pardoned in 2007 and the other 37 were sentenced for murder so not included.

They are also remembered at the National Memorial Arboretum

As they should be.

i watched the service from the Royal Albert Hall last night as i always have but had to listen to some idiots letting off their bomb size fireworks. So much for respect.
i also watched the cenotaph serivce today, young and old together.
I lost relatives in WW1 but i was thinking of my uncle and his son who both died in WW2.
I dont think i will be around in 2045 but i hope their memory lives on

God bless them and thank you

Lets not forget the poor souls who never get any mention and are always swept under the carpet.

Those who were ordered to be shot by their own men---

those labled cowards.

may they have rested in peace with no know memorial.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.

We will remember <3

Those who paid the ultimate price, those that have served and those still serving. <3

Sad to say there have been many cases of mindless yobs attacking various monuments etc for Veterans. Knitted poppy displays and silhouettes being broken up.

Not sure why they'd do this but you have to wonder how much they really know about it all....not saying schools haven't taught them but maybe they didn't feel engaged. If caught, maybe they need community service working for the veterans. Or maybe they're just mindless idiots and they really don't care how many died for their right to act stupid.

Dear All

This was sung by Lesley Garatt at the Royal Albert Hall:

"GOING HOME"

Going home, going home
I'm just going home
Quiet light, some still day
I'm just going home

It's not far, just close by
Through an open door
Work all done, care laid by
Going to fear no more

Mother's there expecting me
Father's waiting, too
Lots of folk gathered there
All the friends I knew

All the friends I knew
I'm going home
Nothing's lost, all's gain
No more fret nor pain
No more stumbling on the way
No more longing for the day
Going to roam no more

Morning star lights the way
Restless dream all done
Shadows gone, break of day
Real life begun

There's no break, there's no end
Just a living on
Wide awake with a smile
Going on and on

Going home, going home
I'm just going home
It's not far, just close by
Through an open door
I am going home
I'm just going home

Going home, going home
[Repeat]

Joy Report 12 Nov 2017 08:30

With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,
England mourns for her dead across the sea.
Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit,
Fallen in the cause of the free.

Solemn the drums thrill: Death august and royal
Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres.
There is music in the midst of desolation
And a glory that shines upon our tears.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
They sleep beyond England's foam.

But where our desires are and our hopes profound,
Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight,
To the innermost heart of their own land they are known
As the stars are known to the Night;

As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,
Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain,
As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness,
To the end, to the end, they remain.

Laurence Binyon composed his best known poem while sitting on the cliff-top looking out to sea from the dramatic scenery of the north Cornish coastline.

The Royal British Legion is asking the nation to Rethink Remembrance by recognising the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces community, past and present.

By wearing a poppy, you aren’t just remembering the fallen: you’re supporting a new generation of veterans and Service personnel that need our support.

I don't want to pick an argument either, on a thread like this. Just want to point out that it is years old and there are numerous contributions from many members who, for whatever reason, are no longer here.

And thankyou to Joy for keeping it going <3

Doesn't mean we don't care and there are other threads with mention of it.
Not picking an argument just was surprised you'd assume we don't care.
