The 'Clown' has posted a thread.

I think the point should be recognised that, these days, a large number of teenagers know a heck of a lot more about how PCs, the Internet and websites work than their parents. It's highly likely that, after using this site, Linda left her PC on, still logged on to GR, the teenagers began using it for games or surfing, then realised it was still logged on to GR and decided to have some 'fun'. I recall another GR member telling me a while ago that 'kids' had once got onto this site and used a member's name without their knowledge. This could very well have happened again. Anyway, I'm certain that Jan and Rick are more than capable of sorting this situation out with GR's help. CB >|<

McAnne's Gahan-Crazy

McAnne's Gahan-Crazy Report 9 Nov 2005 18:07

I saw last night's events and read this first thing this morning before work. On page 4 Helen Bell commented 'how would a teenager know how to change the name' (or words similar) True - but more to the point - WHY would a teenager change the name, if just coming on for a prank or a bit of fun?? I have seen other members children posting under their name saying 'hi I'm so and so's son/daughter'................ (sorry for bumping - just wanted to express something that's been bugging me all day)

If i were to go on a witch hunt or join a lynch mob, you would be the first to know! i havn't lynched mobbed anyone on here, and really hope the remark 'i have been lynched by the same mob on here before' wasn't pointed in my direction....i do think it's a great idea to mail genes and request our numbers to be on show, that way this sort of thing will be wiped out.. also, just a note, i don't think you'll ever find Elaine and i in the same lynch mob - ever, and it is a first that we agree on a subject ;-))) x

I agree with BC & everyone who agreed with her:) It's between Jan & Linda. The rest of us can think what we like - personally (seeing as it's only a website and not grand espionage) I will give Linda the benefit of the doubt - no real harm has been done.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 9 Nov 2005 13:43

Unfortunately there is a history on GR of people causing trouble by masquerading as others or having multiple IDs or leaving and coming back as someone else. This is why people get so upset when this sort of thing happens, especially those who have been victims in the past. I hope Linda will have an explanation for what happened. Gwynne

ஐ+*¨^¨*+e+*¨^¨*+ஐ Mildred Honkinbottom Report 9 Nov 2005 13:38

Im afraid its the norm on here to be accused of being in a witch hunting lynch mob if you have a different opinion to some. By putting up this thread, instead if doing so privatly, has made it open to debate and everyone is entitled to their opinion....but should not be accused of witch hunting if they do so. If Linda diddnt want people disagreeing with what she did/her son did, her she shouldnt have posted publicly whilst walking away. Elaine x (not on a witch hunt of any kind)

Joan of Arc(hives) Report 9 Nov 2005 13:15

I quite agree Joy, a membership no should appear automatically in the corner of the posting. That way we can all act like sensible adults & take responsibilty for our actions! :0) Joan

Joy

Joy Report 9 Nov 2005 13:13

As I said on Jan's thread last night, maybe this may prompt GR to somehow put membership numbers - say, in a signature, at the end of a post. :-) Joy (with so many ''fun'' names)

I cannot comment really as i didnt see anything, but i do know Jan to be a lovely lady and that this will have upset her (not this thread, whatever was said and her name being used). I have no objection to us being able to change our names. after all, im Strump, but i sign off with my own name Donna. I do think however, changing names is a problem, ive said all along, our member number should be next to our screen name and that we as individuals should not be able to change it. Donna

Joan of Arc(hives) Report 9 Nov 2005 13:05

Pat, you are the voice of reason on here, & everyone should listen to you. We should all unite in stamping this sort of abuse out, whether it is 'accidental' or malicious, & not turn on one another. Sometimes things posted read differently from one person to another, some read things into it that are'n't there. I for one am on the fence on this one, because her 'son' also appears to have posted previously on chat, under 'her' membership no, as Knight Owl & Cheshire Cat, so posing as Jan was not the irst time, just that they were actually caught at it!! So if this has been going on longer than last night..... previous to page 20 ?? Hmmm......... :0( Joan

Stephanie

Stephanie Report 9 Nov 2005 13:05

if she did give him access it was probably cos she trusted him. my mum has trusted me with lots of things and ive gone and bu***red things up. not in malice but everyone is different. Linda obviousley isnt around at the mo and it really is down to her and Jan to sort out. She has put a thread up (maybe her maybe not) explaing the situation, maybe she didnt word it right and didnt say sorry, but she has done ALOT more than others have done in the past. we never know, maybe she has already sent her apology in a PM, lets get off her back for a while. xx

Debby and Pat, Very good points. I recall a couple of months ago, when an old thread suddenly appeared on the Board, apparently nudged by a nonsensical post in my name. Suddenly, there was a hue an cry and I was being interrogated and blamed for something nefarious which I hadn't done. It was very interesting, as well as very disappointing, to see who suddenly appeared to cast blame for wrongdoing and question my assertion that I'd not nudged the thread, and who they 'nominated' to question me about it and 'report back'. It was also interesting to see who contacted me privately, without prompting, to say they believed me. Those are the people I regard as true friends. Sadly, there weren't many of them. CB >|<
