Linda Report 9 Nov 2005 00:54

A keen amateur geneoligist I registered on the site and took great pride in all the work on the tree done so far ... A very childish incident has now marred the connections with Genesreunited and feel all privicy has been removed from what i thought was a great site - Message boards are great but a prank has badly backfired which I should have endevoured to stop As a mother, when my teenage son read what I was looking at (Genes Chat) I should have not let him and his friend have access to my login and now realise how badly this has appeared I feel sick at the remarks that started the thread as no malice was intended and no language was used My immediate family have suggested that the person who has originated this should also be reported as various messages were sent personally which i have kept on file so Im not sure what else to say I also have 2 younger children and just wanted to explain

Then i suggest you send apologies to the apropriate parties that were hurt by what happened and watch your son closer. x

Better still get your son to apologise to the folk he hurt with his comments!! Oh its a cruel world for teenagers!!!! LOL Karen

I also wouldn't have thought you were in a position to be reporting anybody. Jan is a popular member on here and i think that you should understand that people were upset for her. x

I really think you should apologise to the person concerned and forget the PMs as these peeps were obviously worried for a mate! It is your son who should take the blame not people trying to defend someone they care about.

Linda I sent you a message to ask you why and also asked you to apologise to the respected member. I used no aggression or bad language, threats or anything else. That is certainly not in my nature to do so. Like tooth fairy says in your interest and the interest of the original names Jan & Piggy they need apologies from you with explanation as this could have ended up a very serious situation luckily it wasn't too bad as not a lot of damage has been done escept the hurt caused to these members. I do hope this can be sorted out and I commend you for at least putting this thread up to explain what has happened that has gone part of the way to helping the situation. Good luck and all the best I hope things work out. But I still have to say I am worried about this sort of thing happening here to fellow members. Pat x

Well I take my hat off to you Linda Butler!!!! Many others wouldnt have had the bottle to stand up and be counted like you just have done!!! I hope said son is punished accordingly and you are forgiven on this site!!! Good On you!!!! for coming clean!!!! You have explained the situation and disregarded the pms cos the were valid but what you didnt do was 'ask forgiveness' Now that takes bottle!!! too many folk say.... 'i'm sorrry' and expect that to be that!!!! Way to go!!! KAREN

Linda, you have written 'i'm not sure what else to say' i think SORRY would be a start. i am suspicious at your lack of remorse about what happened, in fact, i think Faith has almost hit the nail on the head there. x

Good morning everyone.I haven't read the thread you are talking about, but can imagine what happened. The way I see it is you should apologise for letting your son use the site and for whatever upset he has caused. For those of us with kids, especially teenagers,we should be a bit more understanding.Hands up those who have the best kids in the world and don't do any wrong......hhmmm......I don't see any hands up !! Listen, the people who were upset should realise it wasn't you.You have been embarrased by your son,who hasn't.Don't upset yourself by this anymore. Take care. Elizabeth.

Sorry, don't believe a word of it And why is it that when someone acts badly and apologises everyone seems to think it makes it alright ? Some people make a habit of being unpleasant, and think that an apology (which 9 times out of 10 they don't mean) will make everything OK.

Unknown

Unknown Report 9 Nov 2005 10:39

Paul, There are also plenty of others who are unpleasant and never apologise! CB >|< (Speaking from personal experience)

Elizabeth

Elizabeth Report 9 Nov 2005 10:40

Ah but Paul. What if this is one of those times ? Would you not feel bad then for having gave someone gip for no reason...

Unknown

Unknown Report 9 Nov 2005 10:41

If I'm wrong about something, then I'll say so, but I don't believe this story in this instance.

Why not Paul?

Unknown

Unknown Report 9 Nov 2005 10:47

Because it doesn't ring true to me. Also, some of the timings of the posts have been in the early hours of the morning. (also there was no SORRY in this post) It's just my opinion !

Paul we have to take everything on these boards at face value unless there is evidence to the contrary. I, and everyone else, have no reason to disbelieve Linda, and unless you have more information than the rest of us are privy to then, I suggest you temper your replies accordingly. If you had said that to me I would be reporting you to GR Abuse. Linda may I suggest you change your password, and logout each time you leave your PC. You can then get back to your searching and hopefully forget about this incident Ken xx

Elizabeth

Elizabeth Report 9 Nov 2005 10:55

Paul,do you have teenage sons ? I have three and believe me,when they want to take the pi**,they can do it in a big way without thinking of the outcome.
