Can I have a bash at the few I think I might know? I know both Pat O'Brien and James Cagney were in Angels with Dirty Faces....but can't remember Cagney being in the others, so I'll say 1 Pat O'Brien 4 Bob Hope 6 Donald Crisp..... Spencers Mountain was the film The Waltons came from...wasn't it? Christine

LOL Yes Pat O'Brien he played the Priest in Angels and A Reporter in Front Page which was remade with the wonderful, MAtthau and Lemmon partnership LOL (My faves love them two) Yes No 4 is correct Bob Hope loved Paleface and son of as well East is East and West is West lol. Jane Russell Yes Donald Crisp is right as well he was a Scot wasn't he? Great actor in some terrific films. Well done Christine and I think that is right about Spencers mountain. Pat x

Oh good glad I got some right. All those Saturday afternoons of watching the old movies paid off then. Loved Donald Crisp when I was young....the Lassie Films and Greyfriar's Bobby. I've read differing reports of where he was born Pat, as I too thought he was Scottish but I have seen it said he was born in London. Must go and check and see what I can find. Christine

PennyDainty

PennyDainty Report 13 Dec 2005 01:50

YEs confusing....some sites have him born George William Crisp...1880 Bow, London others have him born Donald Crisp 1880 Aberfeldy, Scotland can't find him on Scottish 1881 census, so still don't know either way! Christine

Yes those Matinees on the telly how many saturday afternoons nothing better to do probably stuck in the house with a cold whatever in the height of the winter it was lovely sitting under a blanket watching films like How Green was my Valley did you like Roddy McDowall? I always liked him and always thought he was one of the most level headed child stars there was, besides Micky Rooney I reckoned Roddy did well to survive the traumatics of child stardom. Here a bit of trivia did you know (I only saw this recently) Roddy was born in Herne Hill thats where I started from :-))) aint that weird he never spoke like anyone from Herne Hill but then I came from posh end of the area LOL the writers end there was Chaucer Road, Spencer Road Shakespeare Road and Milton Road all named after writers obviously thought that was well good lol. Liked him as a child actor Pat but not as an adult actor, but then he did have a lot of duff parts! Used to enjoy the matinees best if I got a good cry at them...still enjoy a weepy. Roddy McDowell featured in quite a few that got me bubbling as a child, apart from Lassie there were also the Flicka and Son of Flicka films....wish they'd re-run them all now. Christine

Oh! Regarding Donald Crisp - this bio is from the actor's background site Donald Crisp was born George William Crisp at the family home in Bow, London. Donald's parents were James Crisp and Elizabeth Crisp, his birth was registered by his mother on 4th September 1882. Donald's sisters were Elizabeth, Ann, Alice (known as Loiusa) and Eliza and his brothers were James, John and Mark. Family memories state that Donald's brother in law James Needham (Louisa's husband) lent/gave Donald the fare to USA. The family have a photo of Donald which he sent to 'Jimmy' and signed. On 16th February 1937 Donald applied for a US Social Security account number giving his address as N Vista Street Hollywood California, and his employers Warner Brothers Pictures Burbank California. On his application Donald did not know his mother's maiden name.

Hi there, I'm still here....was having a wee wander. So how does Maori reggae differ from Jamaican reggae? or is there any difference? This is what is confusing about Donald Crisp John.....this is what you find on other sites Donald Crisp 1880 - 1974 Actor, film director and producer. Born in Aberfeldy, Scotland, he emigrated to the U.S. in 1906. Despite having acted in more than 400 Holywood films, being an accomplished director and taking a leading role in film financing, Crisp became known as Scotland's forgotten actor. So don't know which one is correct? Christine

John

John Report 14 Dec 2005 00:36

Hi again Pat, I have seen only two Hitchock films righ through 'Torn Curtain' and the second version of 'The man who knew too much' - the opening segments of 'Psycho' and 'The Birds' Shame isn't it.

Pat

Pat Report 14 Dec 2005 00:48

Oh John you miss so much when you don't see ALL of Hitchcocks films think he was a genius loved his stuff. Maori reggae is different because it aint Jamaican Christine. No its kept to the roots side of things which is my style Jamey sent me a private message as well, can't be bad can it? Its really laid back catchy music that really makes you feel cool. With guinness its the biz. OK Hitchcock coming up poor John will be all at sea, may it will tempt him to check Hitchcock films out. Pat x
